        Polystyrene Latex Bead에 의한 뇌혈관연축 모델에서 K<sup>+</sup> 통로활성제의 전신투여

        Objectives : It has been reported that the presence of a pharmacologically inactive foreign substance, polystyrene latex bead, in subarachnoid space activates a non-specific immunological response and elicits arterial narrowing. Recently the activation of potassium($K^+$) channels may be of benefit in relieving cerebral vasospasm. The present study examined the effects of systemic administration of a ATP-sensitive $K^+$ channel activator, cromakalim, on the polystyrene latex bead-induced cerebral vasospasm. Methods : The spasm models similar to that caused by subarachnoid blood injection were created by injection of bead into rabbit cisterna magna. Intravenous injections of cromakalim were administered twice daily(bid) 30 minutes after induction of vasospasm. Animals were killed by perfusion-fixation 2 days after vasospasm. Basilar arteries were removed and sectioned, and the luminal cross-sectional areas were measured. Results : Injection of bead elicited an arterial constriction, reducing arterial diameter to 33.3% of resting tone. Cromakalim inhibited bead-induced constriction at a dose of 0.3mg/kg(Mann-Whitney test, p<0.01). Conclusion : These results support the concept that the cellular events triggered by inactivation of ATP-sensitive $K^+$ channels are responsible for the pathogenesis of vasospasm. The findings also indicate that cromakalim represents a potential therapeutic agents for the treatment of cerebral vasospasm.

        콜라겐 유도 관절염 모델에서 HO-1의 역할에 관한 연구

        Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), an inducible heme-degrading enzyme, is expressed by macrophages and endothelial cells in response to inflammatory stresses. It has been known to show strong immunosuppressive properties although its mechanisms are not completely understood. This study was designed to determine the effects of HO-1 modulation on collagen induced arthritis (CIA) model. CIA model was induced by subcutaneous injection of collagen on tail of DBA/1J mice. For evaluation of HO-1 effects, an inducer of HO-1, cobalt protoporphyrin IX (CoPPIX), or an inhibitor of HO-1, tin protoporphyrin IX (SnPPIX), were administered every other days into peritoneal cavity from day 1 to day 42 after CIA induction. The macrocopic clinical findings of CIA were evaluated and histo-pathologic findings and radiographic analysis were carried out. The expressions of TNF-α, IL-6, and VEGF which have important roles in pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis were observed by immuno-histochemical staining. Collagen on DBA/1J mice induced arthritis at knee joint and ankle joint. Administration of CoPPIX significantly aggravated the severity of arthritis while SnPPIX protected collagen induced arthritis. SnPPIX strongly suppressed inflammatory cell infiltration, swelling of synovial membrane, and erosion and destruction of bone on CIA mice. Furthermore subcutaneous injection of collagen also increased expression of TNF-α, IL-6, and VEGF which are important pro-inflammatory mediators in rheumatoid arthritis. SnPPIX suppressed expression of the pro-inflammatory mediators on CIA mice. Finally, we suggest that HO-1 mediates the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators and bone destruction during pathogenesis of CIA, which indicates modulation of HO-1 can be a new therapeutic target of rheumatoid arthritis. Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1)은 heme을 대사 시키는 효소로서 염증성 자극에 대한 반응으로 발현되고 항염작용이 있는 것으로 알려져 있지만 그 작용 기전에 대한 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구는 콜라겐 으로 유도된 관절염 모델(collagen induced arthritis, CIA)에서 HO-1의 역할을 알아보기 위하여 수행되었다. DBA/1J 생쥐의 꼬리에 콜라겐을 피하 주사하여 관절염을 유도하였다. CIA 생쥐에서 HO-1의 효과를 분석하기 위하여 HO-1의 유도제인 cobalt protoporphyrin IX (CoPPIX)와 저해제인 tin protoporphyrin IX (SnPPIX)를 관절 염 유도 첫날부터 42일까지 복강에 2일마다 주사하여 관절염이 유발되는 상황을 관찰하였다. 관절염의 유발 정 도는 육안으로 평가되었고 염증의 진행정도와 뼈의 손상정도는 관절의 병리조직학적 관찰과 방사선적 검사를 통하여 관찰하였다. 또한 관절염의 병리과정에 중요한 역할을 하는 TNF-α, IL-6, VEGF 등 염증매개물질들의 발 현은 면역조직화학검사를 통하여 분석하였다. DBA/1J 생쥐의 꼬리에 콜라겐을 피하 주사하였을 때 무릎관절과 발목관절이 부으면서 관절염이 유도되었다. CoPPIX를 처리한 군 (CoPPIX군)은 CIA군에 비하여 관절염의 유발정도가 심한 반면, SnPPIX를 처리한 군 (SnPPIX군)에서는 관절염이 현저히 억제되었다. 관절의 조직학적인 소견에서도 콜라겐에 의한 세포의 침윤, 활 막의 비후, 연골과 골의 미란 및 파괴 등이 SnPPIX처리에 의하여 개선되었다. 또한 콜라겐에 의하여 류마티스성 관절염에서 중요한 역할을 하는 TNF-α, IL-6, VEGF 등의 염증 매개물질들의 발현의 증가도 CoPPIX군에서는 증가한 반면 SnPPIX군에서는 억제되었다. 결론적으로 HO-1이 CIA의 병리과정에서 염증 매개물질의 발현을 촉 진 시키고 골 손상을 악화시키는 것으로 생각되었고, 이는 HO-1의 발현의 조절이 류마티스성 관절염의 치료에 새로운 치료 목표가 될 수 있음을 제시한다고 생각한다.

        Cephalhematoma is a common entity in infancy, usually caused by difficult labor. On the other hand, calcified cephalhematomas are seen infrequently, even by pediatric neurosurgeons, Indications for surgery and techniques have not been clearly defined. In this report, we present a child with a large, calcified cephalhematoma and discuss its surgical technique.

        저전압 전기 손상에 의한 우측 시상출혈 1례

        We report on a case of right thalamic hemorrhage resulting from low-voltage electrical injury caused by contact between a wet hand and an electronic scale. The patient was treated with clopidogrel for control of a previous cerebral infarction. The patient complained of numbness of the left upper extremity. On neurological examination,decreased motor power of her left side, grade IV, was observed. Findings on computerized tomography of the brain revealed a right thalamic hemorrhage. To the best of our knowledge, cerebral hemorrhage resulting from lowvoltage electrical injury has not been previously reported in the literature.

        순천만 수질환경의 계절적 특성에 관한 연구

        본 연구에서는 순천만 수질의 현황을 과학적으로 파악하고 효율적인 보존과 관리를 위한 기 초자료를 제공하는 것을 목적으로 하여, 2008년 10월, 2009년 1, 4, 7월에 걸쳐 순천만 수질의 계절 적 특성을 조사하였다. 조사기간 동안 염분은 8.8∼31.9psu, DO는 6.34∼11.84 mg/L의 범위를 나타 내었으며 pH는 7.80∼8.34의 범위를 나타내었다. 부유물질 농도는 평균 52.1∼104.0 mg/L의 범위를 보였으며, COD의 경우는 2.27∼5.33 mg/L의 범위를 나타내었다. 그리고 총대장균군수의 경우는 6 ∼37CFU의 범위를 나타내었으며 COD와 총대장균군수의 경우는 담수가 유입되는 순천만 초입부에 서 상대적으로 높은 경향을 나타내었다. 한편 순천만에서의 질소, 인, 규소와 같은 영양염류는 동천 과 이사천의 담수가 직접적으로 유입되는 순천만 초입부에서 상대적으로 높은 경향을 나타내었으 며, N/P 비는 평균값이 4.54∼9.61의 범위를 보여 Redfield ratio를 고려했을 때 순천만에서는 질소 가 제한영양물질임을 알 수 있었다.

        Mice 소장의 Cajal 세포에서 기록되는 향도잡이 전류의 특성

        Background/Aims: Gastrointestinal motility is initiated by the periodic generation of slow waves. Interstitial cells of Cajal (ICC) are pacemaker cells that generate slow waves and drive spontaneous mechanical contractions of the gastrointestinal smooth muscle. Slow waves generate the periodic activation of spontaneous inward currents (pacemaker currents). The aim of this study was to investigate the characterization of pacemaker currents of ICC. Methods: The ICC in mice small intestine were cultured with stem cell factor for 2 days, and then we recorded pacemaker currents and slow waves using a whole-cell patch clamp technique. Results: Under voltage clamp at -80 mV of holding potential, ICC generated pacemaker currents. Tetrodotoxin and nifedipine did not affect on the pacemaker currents. In addition, tetraethylammonium, 4-aminopyridine and glibenclamide did not affect on the pacemaker currents. The reduction of external Na+ concentrations inhibited pacemaker currents. Moreover, these currents were completely abolished in the external Ca2+-free condition. Gadolinium and flufenamic acid, inhibitors of non-selective cationic currents, inhibited pacemaker currents. Thapsigargin and cyclopiazoic acid, inhibitors of Ca2+-ATPase in endoplasmic reticulum, abolished pacemaker currents. Carbachol depolarized membrane potential and increased inward currents. Conclusions: These results suggest that pacemaker currents are mediated by the activation of non-selective cation channel and become a target of neurotransmitters in regulation of intestinal motility.         내사시를 동반한 태아알코올증후군 1예

        Purpose: Here, we report a case of an infant with fetal alcohol syndrome with esotropia who was born to a mother who consumed a large quantity of alcohol during her pregnancy. Methods: A 1-year-old female infant visited our hospital for the main symptom of the esodeviation of the eye. The medical history of the mother and the delivery history were reviewed, and a physical examination and ophthalmic examination of the infant were performed. Results: At the first examination, the patient was 15 months old, her mass was 5,600 grams, her height was 70 cm, her head circumference was 39.5 cm, and her chest circumference was 41 cm; all the measurements were below the 3rd percentile. From the gestation age of 24 weeks, the mother consumed 1-2 bottles of sojoo every day, and the infant patient was delivered at the gestation age of 42 weeks by Cesarean section. The infant’s birth weight was 1,510 grams. Upon physical examination, her philtrum was found to be shallow, and microcephaly was detected. Upon ophthalmic examination, a refractive error +1.25 Dsph. was detected. With regard to the horizontal length of the palpebral fissure, the right and the left were 1.7 cm and 1.6 cm, respectively, which is considered short; telecanthus and esotropia were also present. Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, this is the first reported case of fetal alcohol syndrome with accompanying esotropia.
