        NCM계 리튬이온 배터리 양극재의 수소환원과 수침출에 의한 리튬 회수

        The demand for electric vehicles powered by lithium-ion batteries is continuously increasing. Recovery of valuable metals from waste lithium-ion batteries will be necessary in the future. This research investigated the effect of reaction temperature on the lithium recovery ratio from hydrogen reduction followed by water leaching from lithium-ion battery NCM-based cathode materials. As the reaction temperature increased, the weight loss ratio observed after initiation increased rapidly owing to hydrogen reduction of NiO and CoO; at the same time, the H<sub>2</sub>O amount generated increased. Above 602 ℃, the anode materials Ni and Co were reduced and existed in the metallic phases. As the hydrogen reduction temperature was increased, the Li recovery ratio also increased; at 704 ℃ and above, the Li recovery ratio reached a maximum of approximately 92%. Therefore, it is expected that Li can be selectively recovered by hydrogen reduction as a waste lithium-ion battery pretreatment, and the residue can be reprocessed to efficiently separate and recover valuable metals.

        Channel Catifish Liver 에 중금속 처리로 유도되는 Metallothiolein mRNA 및 Metallothionetionein - Iike 단백질의 합성에 관한 연구

        When channel catfish was injected with Cd and Zn chloride, the liver of the Cd-treated channel catfish was transiently activated to synthesize metallothionein(MT) mRNA and MT-like proteins. The poly(A)^+ mRNA of about 400 bases long was detected in the Cd-treated channel catfish liver with synthetic DNA probes (27 mer), which were conserved sequences in rainbow trout MT cDNA and human MT cDNA, by northern blot hybridization experiment. Amount of the mRNA from Cd treated channel catfish liver was enough to detect translation products in vitro, using the rabbit reticulocytelysate cell-free translation system. These translation products were MT-like proteins, which were about 6.5 kD in size on SDS-PAGE.

        MTHFR C677T Polymorphism as a Risk Factor for Vascular Calcification in Chronic Hemodialysis Patients

        Polymorphism of 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) C677T is one of the suggested risk factors for atherosclerosis. However, few studies have reported on the relationship between MTHFR C677T polymorphism and vascular calcification (VC) in chronic hemodialysis patients. We investigated the relationship between the MTHFR C677T polymorphism and VC in 152 chronic hemodialysis patients. Patients with a TT genotype exhibited significantly higher VC scores than patients expressing CC and CT (P = 0.002). The prevalence of peripheral vascular disease increased with the incidence of MTHFR C677T mutations for all patients, and the incidence of cerebrovascular accidents also increased with the presence of mutations for young patients (≤ 60 yr) (P < 0.05). Patients with CT and TT genotypes had adjusted odds ratios for VC of 1.39 and 1.58, respectively (P < 0.05). In summary, these data suggest that the MTHFR C677T polymorphism affects the degree of VC in chronic hemodialysis patients.

        노인의 인지기능과 우울의 영향요인

        Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the influencing factors of cognitive function and depression in elderly. Method: From 3 provinces, 282 elders who resided in community and facilities completed structured questionnaires, including cognitive functions, depression, self-esteem, ADL, and IADL. Data were analyzed by applying ${\chi}^2$-test, ANOVA, partial correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis with SAS 8.12. Results: Community dwelling aged people showed higher scores in MMSE-K, self-esteem, ADL and IADL, and showed lower scores in depression than facility elders. MMSE-K was positively correlated in self-esteem, ADL, and personal cognition of health, except depression. Major factors that affect cognitive function of elderly were residual type, age, and IADL. In addition, major factors that affect depression of elderly were self-esteem, personal cognition of health, and marital status. Conclusions: Based on the results above, it is necessary to identify the status of cognition and depression in the elderly, and to develop nursing intervention programs, which improve cognitive function and reduce depression for aged, especially for the facility admitted aged.

        Holoprosencephaly를 동반한 21-Monosomy 1례

        저자들은 특징적인 안면 기형과 발열이 있는 semilobar type의 holoprosencephaly 환아에서 국내에서는 보고된 바 없는 염색체 검사상 21번 염색체 단체성이 동반된 holoprosencephaly 1례를 경험하였기에 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Holoprosencephaly of unknown definite causes, has been associated with several chromosome abnormalities involving the autosomes and the sex chromosomes. The most commonly reported associations include dup(3p), del(7q), deletions of chromosome 13, trisomy 13, trisomy 18, and triploidy. In previously reported cases in Korea, none were associated with chromosome 21 anomalies. In conclusion, we reported the first case of holoprosencephaly(semilobar type) associated with pure monosomy 21. We experienced a semilobar type holoprosencephaly with monosomy 21 in a neonate who had multiple congenital anomalies, including an abnormal face, a small thorax with widely spaced hypoplastic nipples and nail hypoplasia, lung hypoplasia with severe scoliosis and cardiac abnormalities. Chromosomal analysis revealed a 45, XY, -21.

        비만 : 유전이냐 환경이냐

        Debates relevant to the etiology of weight gain or obesity, i.e., the dichotomous understandings about whether obesity arises from the genetic predisposition or from the environmental influences, has long existed. This is an important issue because it is related to the therapists's prejudice when treating patients with obesity. In this review, the authors first discuss the environmental and the genetic factors that cause the obesity, and in the latter part, the interactions between genetic and environmental factors will be discussed. This issue is considered and described especially in a conceptual aspect for the therapists ultimately to understand how the genetic and the environmental factors interact to arise obesity. Conclusively, obesity is best understood as a complex, multifactorial, and chronic disabled state, which cause an individual with genetic predispostion to obesity under the environmental influences. In future, in favor of the accumulated knowledge about the genetic and environmental impacts and their interactions in detail, we will be able to provide a client-specific management or prevention of obesity.

        급성 조증 입원환자에 대한 항조증약물의 처방 경향

        Objective:This study was performed to investigate the prescribing patterns of antimanic agents in the treatment of acute bipolar disorder inpatients in Korea from 1990 through 2000. The results will serve as the basic data for the practice guideline for the pharmacotherapy of bipolar disorder patients in Korea. Method:Retrospective chart review of bipolar disorder inpatients of Soonchunhyang Medical Center in Seoul and Chun-An was conducted for each of the year 1990, 1995, and 2000. The following data are collected ; 1) demographic data, 2) history of bipolar disorder, 3) length of hospital stay, 4) detailed drug titration records of antimanic agents and antipsychotic agents. Results:During the last decade, the frequency of lithium monotherapy was decreased obviously. Instead, more than half of the patients in 2000 were on combination therapy of lithium and anticonvulsants. Lithiumvalproate combination was the preferred strategy and the use rate of carbamazepine has been decreased. In addition, most of the patients were given antipsychotic agents during the last 10 years. And recently, atypical antipsychotics were increasingly prescribed. These changes in the field of pharmacology of bipolar disorder have resulted neither in shorter hospital stays nor lower dosages of concurrent neuroleptics. Conclusions:The results indicate the trends in the prescribing of antimanic agents for the treatment of bipolar disorder in Korea across the past 10 years. Mostly, the change seems to correspond to the international practice guideline. More systematic research is needed to find out the clinical benefits of the anticonvulsants in the real practice of treatment of bipolar disorder.
