Korean Base Vowel Shortening as Multiple Exponence in Derivational Morphology

This paper studies Korean vowel shortening (VS) in verb/adjective bases triggered by suffixes and proposes that VS in derivational morphology is in fact Multiple Exponence (ME). I argue that VS should be treated differently in inflectional and derivational morphology. In inflectional morphology, on the one hand, VS-triggering suffixes show a phonologically conditioned regular pattern. In derivational morphology, on the other hand, VS occurs when followed by a lexically specified suffix. In this case, I propose that a triggering suffix and a base modification together constitute ME. To distinguish ME from phonologically conditioned morphophonological processes, I propose four criteria for ME, examining properties of ME studied on Matthews (1972). VS in derivational morphology is examined through these criteria, and I conclude that VS and an accompanying-suffix constitute ME in Korean.
Association between Recent Acetaminophen Use and Asthma: Modification by Polymorphism at TLR4

The risk of asthma has been increasing in parallel with use of acetaminophen, which is apotential source of oxidative stress. Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) plays a critical role not onlyin innate immunity, but also in mediating reactive oxygen species induced inflammation. Therefore, we investigated associations between acetaminophen usage and TLR4polymorphism on asthma and bronchial hyperresponsiveness (BHR). The number of 2,428elementary school children in Seoul and Jeongeup cities was recruited. Subjects who usedacetaminophen with a family history of asthma had an increased risk of both asthmadiagnosis ever and current asthma. Individuals with CT+TT genotypes at the TLR4polymorphism, in combination with acetaminophen usage, also demonstrated anincreased risk of asthma diagnosis ever (aOR, 2.08; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.10-3.92). Family history of asthma and acetaminophen usage were risk factors for BHR. Although TLR4 was not an independent risk factor for BHR, individuals with CT+TTgenotypes at the TLR4 polymorphism had an increased risk of BHR when combined withacetaminophen usage (aOR, 1.74; 95% CI, 1.03-2.94). In conclusion, acetaminophenusage may be associated with asthma and BHR in genetically susceptible subjects. Thiseffect may be modified by polymorphism at TLR4.
Suffix-accompanied deletions as multiple exponence in Central Yup’ik

This study examines various types of deletion accompanied by derivational suffixes in Central Yup'ik and proposes that the non-phonologically conditioned deletion is part of multiple exponence (ME). In other words, a suffix and an instance of deletion, together comprise ME of a single expression. The four criteria are proposed to establish ME. Two criteria, Non- phonological condition and Consistent co-occurrence are crucial for a base modification to be considered as an instance of ME. The other two criteria, Phonological consistency and No exceptions on base selection are optional properties. All deletions in Central Yup’ik meet the crucial two criteria; but the optional two criteria are met to different degrees, providing empirical evidence that parameters to determine ME are structured along a continuum.
베트남 지가형성요인의 상대적 중요도 및 우선순위에 관한 연구

This study distinguishes the components that can be used as factors for land price determination among the survey items composed in Vietnam's land information collection form. It analyzes their relative importance and priorities. To achieve this research objective, the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) is used as the analysis method. As a result, for agricultural land, location features including transportation, distribution, and disaster prevention facilities, which are closely related to agricultural production, were found to have high importance and priority. On the other hand, for non-agricultural land, road features, which are considered the most important factor in Vietnam's current land price assessment method, and their components were identified as important factors for land price formation. To actively utilize and practically establish these factors for land regulation, it is necessary to improve the land characteristic information and spatial information system, and to improve the land data infrastructure. 본 연구는 베트남의 토지정보 수집표에 구성된 조사항목들 중 지가형성요인 등에 활용할 수 있는 구성요소를 구분하고, 그 상대적 중요도 및 우선순위를 분석하였다. 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 분석방법은 계층분석적 의사결정법(Analytic Hierarchy Process, AHP)을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 농업용 토지의 경우 농산물 생산과 밀접한 관계를 가지고 있는 교통, 유통공급, 방재시설 등이 포함된 입지특성이 높은 중요도와 우선순위가 있은 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 비농업용 토지는 현재 베트남의 지가산정방법에서 가장 중요하게 여겨지는 도로특성 요인과 그 구성요소들이 중요한 지가형성요인으로 나타났다. 이러한 지가형성요인을 토지제도에 적극 활용하고 실천적으로 구축하기 위해서는 토지특성정보 및 공간정보 체계 개선 토지 데이터 인프라의 개선이 필요할 것으로 판단된다.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of the assessment of medical directors for indirect medical oversight on prehospital care. Methods: Medical directors assessed the same prehospital care run sheets with six cases of cardiac arrest, four cases of withholding or interruption of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and six cases of severe trauma patients. Demographics of the medical directors and the accuracy of their assessment for the prehospital care run sheets were investigated. Results: Board certified emergency physician was 14 of the total 21 medical directors (58%). Eleven medical directors were educated for the medical director course of the Korean council of emergency medical services physicians. The accuracy of the assessment of the medical directors was 50% in the assessment of electrocardiogram using an automated external defibrillator (AED) in cardiac arrest. Pulse check, respiration check, AED monitoring and the reason of interruption for CPR were lower than 60% for withholding or interruption of CPR. The lowest accurate assessment of medical directors was the appropriate treatment for trauma, with 36.5% in severe trauma. Conclusion: Lower accuracy in some assessments of the medical directors for indirect medical oversight on prehospital care was identified. Education and quality control are needed for medical directors to provide high-quality indirect medical oversight.

Remote sensing and measurement are of paramount importance of providing information on the state of water quality in water bodies. The formation and growth of cyanobacteria is of serious concern to in land aquatic life forms and human life. The main cause of water quality deterioration stems from anthropogenic induced eutrophication. The goal of this research to quantify and determine the spatial distribution of cyanobacteria concentration in the water using remote sensing technique. The standard approach to measure water quality based on the direct measurement of the fluorescence of the chlorophyll a in the living algal cells and the same approach used to detect the phycobilin pigments found in blue-green algae (a.k.a. cyanobacteria), phycocyanin and phycoerythrin. This paper propose the emerging sensor design to measure the water quality based on the optical analysis by fluorescence of the phycocyanin pigment. In this research, we developed an method to sense and quantify to derive phycocyanin intensity index for estimating cyanobacteria concentrations. The development of the index was based on the reflectance difference between visible light band 620nm and 665nm. As a result of research this paper presents, an optical biological sensor design information to measure the Phycocyanin parameters in water content.
