Explicit expressions for the transmission pseudo-ellipsometric constants and transmittance of a semi-transparent glass substrate coated with thinfilms are presented, to determine the optical constants of a very weakly absorbing thin film coated on a glass substrate. The intensity of the mutiply reflected light inside the semi-transparent substrate is superposed incoherently and the light absorption by the substrate is properly treated, so that modeling analysis of thin films coated on a semi-transparent substrate can be performed with increased accuracy. The extinction coefficient derived from transmittance analysis is compared to that from ellipsometric analysis, in the weakly absorbing region, and the difference between the two extinction coefficients is discussed in relation to the sensitivities of the transmittance and ellipsometric constants. This transmittance analysis together with ellipsometric analysis is applied to a glass substrate coated with a SiN thin film, and it is shown that the thickness and complex refractive index of the SiN thin film can be determined accurately, even though the extinction coefficient is very small.
Coptidis Rhizoma의 成分이 酵母의 生育에 미치는 影響

Coptidis Rhizoma에서 抽出한 抗菌性物質을 租精製하여 細菌 및 眞菌類의 生育에 미치는 영향에 대하여 調査하였으며 그 結果를 要約하면 다음과 같다. 1 Coptidis Rhizoma의 抗菌性物質은 90% acetone에 용해하며 ethyl ether에 不溶性 部分에서 가장 높은 Activity를 나타냈으며 Saccharomyces coreanus에 對한 GI50(Growth Inhibition이 일어나는 Sample의 濃度)가 25㎍/ml이였다. 2. 배양 시간에 따른 Sample의 抗菌力을 보면 배양 初期에는 强한 生育遲延현상을 보이나 10㎍/ml의 농도에서는 20시간, 25㎍/ml에서는 約 30時間이 경과한 후에야 Sample 無添加區와 거의 같은 生育度를 보였다. 3. 本 Sample은 獨酒 酵母인 Saccharomyces coreanus, 淸酒 酵母인 Saccharomyces sak 및 Torulopsis sp. 에 對해서도 生育을 沮害하였다. 4. 本 Sample은 系狀菌에 對해서 抗菌力이 없으나 大腸菌인 Escherichia coli에 對해서 抗菌力을 나타내었다. Antimicrobial substance extracted from Coptidis Rhizoma was purified crudely. The growth inhibition of bacteria, yeast and mold in the media added this substance was investigated, The results were as fallow, 1. Antimicrbia (substance from Coptidis Rhizoma had best activity at ether soluble fraction, Which dissolved in 90% acetone or absolute methanol. The activity of this substance to Saccharomyces coreanus, growth inhibition 50% (GI50), is 25㎍ per ml of media. 2. This substance inhibited more considerably at early period of growth than late period. 3. Growth of fermenting yeast, Saccharomyces coreanus and Saccharomyces sake were inhibited with this substance. 4. This substance did not inhibit growth of Aspergikkus sp. and penicillium sp., but remarkebly inhibited growth of Escherichia coli.

The authors report two cases of trigeminal neuralgia caused by epidermoid tumor in the cerebellopontine angle. The one case showed that trigeminal nerve was displaced superiorly by the tumor and was adhesed to the superior cerebellar artery. The other case showed that tumor mass encircled the facial, acoustic nerves as well as trigeminal nerve entirely and after removal of the tumor petrosal vein was found at the root entry zone of the trigeminal nerve. Interestingly these two cases were devoid of neurologic deficit. We tried microvascular decompression as well as removal of tumor and were satisfied with its result. We reviewed the literature and discussed these cases in point of mechanisms of trigeminal neuralgia.
