No effective antiviral therapy is proven yet, but clinical use of ribavirin (RBV) has been tried. We investigated the antiviral effect of RBV against SFTSV in vitro. Methods: To test for cytotoxicity of RBV, Vero cells were treated with different concentrations of RBV (3.90 to 500 μg/mL, two-fold dilution) and analyzed by cell viability MTS assay 48h post-infection. To determine antiviral activity of RBV against SFTSV, Vero cells were infected with SFTSV strain Gangwon/Korea/2012 at 100 TCID50 (50% tissue culture infective dose) per well in a 96-well plate, and RBV was added at the concentrations showing no or minimal cytotoxicity. Viral RNAs were extracted from the culture supernatants and quantifi ed using one-step real-time reverse transcription- PCR to amplify the partial large segment of SFTSV. Statistical analysis was done by one-way ANOVA with Tukey`s post hoc test. Results: Cytotoxicity due to RBV was not observed at RBV concentration =31.3 μg/ mL. Viral RNAs at 24h post-RBV treatment were reduced with increasing RBV concentrations (1-32 μg/mL), compared with those of mock-treated cells (P <0.01, Figure). Half maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) of RBV was 3.69 μg/mL at 24h post-RBV treatment. Conclusions: Our study shows that RBV has antiviral effect against SFTSV in a dose-dependent manner. Further studies are required to evaluate the effi cacy of RBV in SFTS.

        쉰소리로 발현한 흉부 대동맥류 1예 : Ortner씨 증후군 orther`s syndrome

        Ortner씨 증후군은 다양한 심장 질환에 이차적으로 생긴 반회 후두 신경 마비에 의한 쉰소리를 특징으로 하는 임상 질환이다. 저자들은 흉통없이 발생한 쇤소리를 주소로 내원한 환자에서 좌측 반회 후두 신경의 손상에 따른 성대 마비의 1차원적인 원인으로 대동맥궁 부위에서의 대동맥류를 진단하였기에 문헌 고찰과 더불어 보고하는 바이다. Ortner's syndrome is a clinical entity with hoarseness due to a left recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy caused by cardiac disease. It is a recognized complication of a number of conditions including, atrial septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus, primary pulmonary hypertension, Eisenmenger's syndrome and aortic aneurysm. A 71-year-old woman with a history of hypertension and diabetes complained hoarseness and hemoptysis for 3 days. Chest X-ray showed a soft tissue mass shadow in the left upper lung field and chest CT scan revealed a thoracic aortic aneurysm. We report a case of left recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy due to a huge thoracic aortic aneurysm in an old woman. (Korean J Med 64:105-108, 2003)

      • 등속성 운동 시 근전도 주파수 분석에서 얻은 피로지수의 특성

        In rehabilitation programs involving muscle re-education and endurance exercise, it is necessary to confirm when fatigue occurs. It is also necessary to quantify fatigue, to confirm whether the muscle has been exercised sufficiently. In general, as fatigue occurs, the force-generating ability of the muscle is reduced. If the median frequency (MDF) obtained from electromyograrn (EMG) power spectrum is correlated highly with work, then the timing and degree of fatigue may be confirmed. This study examined the relationship between work and MDF obtained from the EMG power spectrum during repetitive isokinetic exercise. Surface EMG signals were collected from biceps brachii and vastus lateralis of 52 normal subjects (26 males, 26 females) at 120˚/sec and 60˚/sec while performing an isokinetic exercise. The exercise was finished at 25% of peak work. MDF data was obtained using a moving fast Fourier transformation (FPT), and random noise was removed using the inverse FPT, then a new MDF data was obtained from the main signal. There was a high correlation between work and MDF during repetitive isokinetic exercise in the biceps brachii and vastus lateralis of males and the biceps Brachii of temales (r=.50∼.77). However, there was a low correlation between work and MDF in the vastus lateralis of females (r=.06∼.19).

        아임계 및 초임계수하의 p-Xylene 의 무촉매 부분 산화반응에서 반응조건이 Terephthalic acid 의 선택성에 미치는 영향

        아임계와 초임계수 매체하에서 p-xylene을 과산화수소에 의해 무촉매로 부분 산화시켜 terephthalic acid(TPA)를 제조하는가능성을 실험적으로 검토하였다. 회분식 반응실험을 통해 p-xylene의 새로운 산화 분해 경로를 제시하였다. 반응 시작 후 20분이 경과하였을 때 p-xylene의 전화율은 아임계수 조건에서 89.0% 이상이었고, 초임계수 조건에서는 99.0% 이상으로 온도가 높아질수록 증가하였다. TPA의 선택성은 초임계수 조건보다는 아임계수 조건에서 더 높았으며, 특히 온도 300 ℃, 압력 220 bar, 과산화수소 주입비 50%일 때 TPA수율은 29.0%로 최대값을 나타내었다. 또한 TPA 선택성에 미치는 압력의 영향은 초임계수보다는 아임계수 조건에서 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. The possibility of manufacturing the terephthalic acid(TPA) by partial oxidation of p-xylene without a catalyst in subcritical and supercritical water medium was investigated experimentally. The effects of reaction condition such as reaction temperature, pressure and hydrogen peroxide feed ratio on the conversion of p-xylene and the selectivity of TPA produced were investigated in batch reactor and new oxidation reaction pathway of p-xylene was proposed. Conversion of p-xylene was about 89.0% in subcritical condition and increased with the temperature increasing, over 99.0% in supercritical condition after 20 minutes from the start of reaction. The selectivity of TPA in subcritical conditions was higher than in supercritical conditions and the maximum value was 29.0% at 300 ℃, 220 bar, 50% H_2O_2 feed ratio. The pressure effect on TPA selectivity was higher at subcritical water condition than at the supercritical condition.

      • HFC-134a와 대체냉매 HFC-152a에 CF_3I를 혼합한 자동차냉매 특성

        These days, an attention of environment has been increasing all over the world. to prevent the green house effect and destruction of an ozone layer, an ozone destruction potential(ODP) be zero and a refrigerant for low global warming potential(GWP) is needed. HFC-134a, in which hydrogen is mixed instead of chlorine is a refrigerant used for automobile conditioners and its destruction potential is ecologically zero. However, it is not considered as a perfect substitutive refrigerant as its GWP is high. It is studied refrigerant mixtures in which HFC-134a, HFC-152a and CF_3I with low GWP and zero ODP are mixed by experimentally and concluded as follows; 1. with the variation of speed of compressor outside temperature and flow rate, the heat of evaporator and compressor and coefficient of performance was varied, and influenced the air conditioner. 2. The pressure of evaporator was decreased with increasing the speed of compressor and that of the refrigerant HFC-134a was higher 21% than that of azotrope refrigerant mixed with CF_3I. The overall capacity of condensor and evaporator was increased and HGC-134a was higher than azotrope refrigerant mixed with CF_3I 3. The capacity of evaporator with the refrigerant HFC-134a was higher 6% than azotrope refrigerant mixed with CF31 and the required power with zaotrope refrigerant mixed with CF_3I was higher 11% than that of HFC-134a. 4. The COP of the refrigerant FHC-134a was higher 31% in 1000RPM. when outside temperature was increased, COP was decreased. 5. Performance of HFC-134a is better than azotrope refrigerant mixed with CF_3I but prefered zaotrope refrigerant mixed with CF_3I considering the environment.

        MUSIC-based Diagnosis Algorithm for Identifying Broken Rotor Bar Faults in Induction Motors Using Flux Signal

        The diagnosis of motor failures using an on-line method has been the aim of many researchers and studies. Several spectral analysis techniques have been developed and are used to facilitate on-line diagnosis methods in industry. This paper discusses the first application of a motor flux spectral analysis to the identification of broken rotor bar (BRB) faults in induction motors using a multiple signal classification (MUSIC) technique as an on-line diagnosis method. The proposed method measures the leakage flux in the radial direction using a radial flux sensor which is designed as a search coil and is installed between stator slots. The MUSIC technique, which requires fewer number of data samples and has a higher detection accuracy than the traditional fast Fourier transform (FFT) method, then calculates the motor load condition and extracts any abnormal signals related to motor failures in order to identify BRB faults. Experimental results clearly demonstrate that the proposed method is a promising candidate for an on-line diagnosis method to detect motor failures.

        Clinical Research Article : The effect of milrinone on the intraoperative hemodynamics during off-pump coronary bypass surgery in patients with an elevated echocardiographic index of the ventricular filling pressure

        Background: Hemodynamic derangement during off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery (OPCAB) is mainly attributed to impaired filling and diastolic dysfunction. An elevated ratio of the mitral velocity to the early-diastolic velocity of the mitral annulus (E/e` > 15) is a relatively new indicator of diastolic function, and this was reported to be associated with impaired hemodynamics during OPCAB. We investigated the efficacy of milrinone on the perioperative hemodynamics and short term outcomes of patients with an E/e` > 15 and who underwent OPCAB. Methods: The patients were randomly allocated into either group C (control, n = 31) or group M (n = 31) and they were treated with the same amount of either normal saline or milrinone (0.5 μg/kg/min) without bolus loading after completion of internal mammary artery harvest until the end of operation. Hemodynamic measurements were recorded after the induction of anesthesia (T1), 5 min after starting each distal anastomosis of the left anterior descending artery (T2), left circumflex artery (T3) and right coronary artery (T4), and 5 min after sternum closure (T5). Results: The mixed venous oxygen saturation (SvO2) was lower through T2-T4 compared to the baseline value in both groups, while the degree of the decrease was significantly less in group M than that in group C. The other hemodynamic variables, the operative data and the postoperative outcomes were similar between the two groups. Conclusions: Intraoperative infusion of milrinone did not significantly improve the perioperative hemodynamics and the subsequent short term outcomes for the patients with preexisting diastolic dysfunction as represented by an elevated E/e` value, although it reduced the degree of decrease of the SvO2 during OPCAB.         A Method to Monitor Vacuum Degree Using Capacitive Partial Discharge Coupler

        Internal pressure of vacuum interrupter (VI) is one of the most important parameters in VI operation and may increase due to the outgassing from the materials inside VI or gas permeation through metal flange or ceramic vessel. The increase of the pressure above a certain level leads to the failures of switching or insulation. Therefore, an effective pressure check of VI is essential and an analysis of partial discharge (PD) characteristics is an effective monitoring method to identify the degree of the internal pressure of VI. This paper introduces a research work on monitoring the internal pressure of VI by analyzing PDs which were measured using a capacitive PD coupler. The authorshave developed cost effective capacitive coupler based on the ceramic material that has an excellent insulation properties and the main component of the capacitive coupler is made by SrTiO3. Detectable internal pressure range and distinguishability of the internal pressure of VI were investigated. From the PD tests results, the internal pressure range, from 10<SUP>-2</SUP> torr to 500 torr, can be monitored by PD measurements using the capacitive coupler and PD inception voltage (PDIV) follows the Paschen’s law. In addition, rise time of PD pulse at 13.2kV decreases with the increase of the internal pressure of VI.
