Vol.0 No.59

Online identity names, a.k.a. Internet nicknames, are those names which individual participants use in their communication in virtual space in order to signify themselves as conversation agents. Attributed to the intrinsic nature that users themselves are the name givers, the online identity names entail a wide variety of facets of self-identity. This study on the online identity names consists of the following parts:In chapter 2, first of all, the characteristics of online identity names are examined and classified as is given below, particularly, in comparison with nicknames in an ordinary sense. nicknames online identity names agents in naming (other) community member(s)user himself/ herself space for their use real space virtual space sustainability in use sustainable tentative language in use spoken language written language directionality bidirectional unidirectional expressive characteristics flexible self-displaying path for cognition auditory visual In chapter 3, based on the above classification, the formative characteristics of online identity names are investigated, particularly, knowing that the formation of the Internet nicknames is enabled by means of written characters. Subsequently, an array of Internet nicknames are divided into several different types according to the naming agents' specific ways of expressing their self identity. In the fourth chapter, the interpretation of the socio-cultural phenomena present in the Korean language community is made in accordance with certain specific tendencies shown in the naming of Internet nicknames. While one may argue that those online identity names are made and used by the netizens who only work in cyber spaces, what is noteworthy is the fact that the social and cultural phenomena unique to a language community are reflected in those names. Through the online identity names, there are, at least, two major socio-cultural phenomena that we can infer:Firstly, there is no fixed norm or formalism when it comes to the methods of gaining self identity, which reflects the care-free attitude and mindset of the netizens (i.e. free-spirited culture). Secondly, most of the Internet nicknames take the form of parodies and, also, imply negative meanings mainly. This indicates that netizens must have some kinds of complaints toward the society and that they may have a tendency of little self-validation.

Vol.9 No.5

‘e-learning' is one of the most ongoing concerns of education area. This kind of concern has created many kinds of online universities. Thanks to many strong points and their efforts, they got enough quality to meet the needs and they are developing their own competitiveness. However, contrary to offline universities with history and heritage, online universities dont get their own unique UI(University Identity). Seeing the fact that many universities are doing their best to create their own unique identity as well as their own competitiveness of quality of education, online universities are somewhat behind. That is the reality. In addition, online universities do not get unique physical and tangible features like visual identity media as well as history and heritage. This does not seem easy to overcome. Thus, this researcher is willing to get the solution from 'web branding', experiential marketing method of cyber space to overcome this challenge and promote their own strong points. 'Web branding' is a method to deliver authentic identity of certain brand through utilization of 'experience' in cyber space called 'internet'. This seems the most suitable way for online universities without any physical identity elements to create and deliver differentiated University Identity. Thus, this researcher aims at presenting UI scheme for online university based on experiential elements to catch up with experiential UI of offline universities, moreover, presenting more advanced UI building scheme for online university through utilizing unique advantages of online university to outdo experiential UI of offline universities.

Vol.29 No.11

The purpose of this study is to understand the identity dynamics of digital native adolescents that are formed and changed based on their experiences in online space. To this end, in-depth interviews were conducted between April 2021 and April 2022 with study participants in their late 20s, who have been using the online community Daily Best”(ILBE) for a long time since adolescence. When analyzing qualitative data, attention was paid to the figured world, positioning, and changes in identity, and through this, the identity dynamics of the participants could be confirmed. As a result of the study, the identity dynamics of digital native adolescents who experienced ILBE are explained as follows. First, experience in online space and daily life interact and build a figured world. Second, the figured world also shows a series of changes as the discourse between weak and strong ties intersect. Third, the identity of digital native adolescents shows various dynamics, such as integrating themselves into the identity of the online space, distinguishing them from them, or positioning them as a third entity. These results show that youth's experience in the online environment has a dense, continuous, and daily impact on identity, and provide implications for the development of identity theory topography.

Vol.- No.22

미드(G.H. G.H. Mead identified games as an important factor in the formation of life"s identity, and told that games are the process of understanding and performing their roles in all the people participating. The purpose of this paper is to explore whether online games can play a similar role to that of online games based on the game theory of Mead. As for whether online games can contribute to the formation of identity-as in Mead’s game theory-it can be approached by separatism and integration theory. Separatism is that online games and games in real life are separated from each other without any connection, and integration theory argues that online games can also project the attitude of the community to their own attitudes and form identity in their personal lives. In order to verify the effectiveness of online games from the perspective of the integration theory, this study was conducted by utilizing photo-voice among qualitative research methods. The process of how game users talk about games, taking and explaining related photos associated with games specifically shows how online games have affected the formation of identity. As a result of the discussion, we came to the conclusion that online games could be a process of accepting the attitude of the community to which we belong, and that the process of forming our identity through games could be developed.

Vol.5 No.2

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of online cafe activities of persons with mental disabilities on disability identity. Through this, the purpose of this study was to suggest implications so that the disability identity that the persons with mental disabilities have formed in the online cafe can be extended not only online but also in real space, and expand to a culture of disability. For this study, 103 people who are active in cafes with persons with mental disabilities participated in the questionnaire and analyzed the results. As a result, online cafe activity of persons with mental disabilities have significantly affected disability congestion, and other general characteristics have not. This can be seen as more important to share and communicate experiences caused by disabilities than general characteristics. Therefore, the formation of disability identity of mentally impaired people should be able to gain momentum from online cafe activities. In addition, there is a need for continuous discussion on online cafe activities of persons with mental disabilities so that online activities can be expanded to offline activities and play a role in creating a culture of disabilities.

Vol.140 No.1

This study attempted to review the online classroom space from the perspective of Marc Auge's ‘non-place’, and suggested that the current online classroom space has the characteristics of Marc Auge's ‘non-place.’ Auge's non-place is a place that is not related to identity, relationship, and history unlike the anthropological place we traditionally thought of. In these non-place, users gain a temporary and lonely contractual identity. When reviewing online classes from characteristics of Marc Auge's ‘non-place, online classroom is a typical non-place, and the negative emotions that students feel in online classes can also be attributed to the characteristics of online space as a non-place. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to make efforts to resolve the non-placeability of online classroom along with the use of traditional places such as traditional classrooms.

Vol.18 No.-

The objective of this dissertation is to discuss the strengths and weaknessesof online transnational social movements. The use of the Internet in transnational social movements overcome spatial-temporal limits, helps organizations to communicate and promotes gathering movement resources and support. Furthermore, the Internet network contributes to form collective identity and solidarity as people with similar ideas and faiths are able to exchange opinions. By using the ICTs movement, organizations will be able to deliver their messages accurately and directly to the supporters, bypassing the traditional gatekeepers (governments and mainstream media). Online networking is also very useful for maintaining transnational social movements as it strengthens horizontal solidarity. On the other hand, many counterarguments have also been proposed with regard to the usefulness of the online network in transnational social movements Most notably, a number of researches have questioned the accuracy of online information as well as the reverse function of excessive information that may disrupt individuals' to participation. Moreover, although the Internet network's dispersive and polycentric structure, allows it to overcome a geographic limitations and disseminate a range of ideas, there may have be a certain difficulties in managing a movement's processes and the formation of a collective identity. Thus, the diffusion of ICTs simultaneously indicates both possibilities and a limitations with regard to a transnational social movement. The application result of the ICTs is that they eachappear to reflect the political, social and psychological context of a particular transnational social movement differently.

      • THE CONCEPT OF ‘IDENTITY’ AS A UNIT OF PSYCHOPATHY

2015 Hanyang Journal of Law Vol.2 No.-

Albeit great progress in psychopathy research, the traditional approach in which the entity is regarded as a unit of psychopathy leads current research on psychopathy to a limited study. By excluding those who show psychopathic traits only in certain situations, psychopath theory cannot cope with the new kind of psychopathic aspect in criminology. For example, psychopath theory could not be applied to online offenders who behave in an extremely violent and aggressive way only in cyberspace. It is because they are not showing the psychopathic trait in real life, although the psychopathic trait should be ‘stable across time and consistent across situation’ in order to validate the basic condition of personality disorders defined by American Psychiatric Association. Thus, this article attempts to re-conceptualize psychopathy by introducing the concept of ‘identity’ as a unit of psychopathy, which premises multiple identities in an entity. Many studies on identity have demonstrated each individual can have a ‘repertoire of identities’ and the identity salience varies according to the social context unlike the assumption of the traditional psychopath theory that each entity has only one identity. Under this new approach, online offenders, whose psychopathic trait of their online identities is stable across time and consistent, can be included in the category of psychopath. It is not simply a question of abstract concept, psychopathy unit, but also involves pragmatic considerations such as etiology, treatment and legal issue. Conceptualization of identity may be another challenging job, but the existing discourse of identity in philosophy, psychology and sociology will aid to constitute the concept of identity from the criminological viewpoint.
