        Attractiveness of conspecific stink bugs to adult stink bug-baited traps in soybean fields

        The attractiveness of live adult stink bugs used as baits in traps in soybean fields, Milyang, Korea, to conspecific stink bugs was evaluated. Both sexes of bean bug, Riptortus pedestris Fabricius (Hemiptera: Alididae), and one-banded stink bug, Piezodorus hybneri Gmelin (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), were attracted to conspecific male adults-baited traps. Likewise, both sexes of brown-marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys Stål (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), and sole bug, Dolycoris baccarum L. (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), were attracted to traps baited with conspecific male stink bugs. However, in Nezara antennata Scott (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae),both male and female used as baits in traps were attractive to conspecific adults. Accordingly, these results suggest that the only male adults of H. halys and D. baccarum and both sexes of N. antennata are attractive to conspecific male stink bugs.

        톱다리개미허리노린재 저항성 콩 유전자원 탐색

        본 연구는 효율적인 콩 노린재 검정방법을 개발하고 저항성 유전자원 선발하여 콩 노린재 저항성 품종개발을 위한 기초 자료를 마련하고자, 영남농업연구소에 보존되고 있는 콩 유전자원 298자원을 공시하여 2001~2004 년에 걸쳐 수행하였다. 1. 1년차에 298개의 유전자원에 대하여 노린재 피해율을 조사하였더니, 40%정도의 피해율을 나타낸 품종이 가장 많았고, 10%이하로 피해율이 낮은 품종도 10개정도 선발되었다. 2. 전년도에 피해율이 비교적 낮은 102개의 유전자원을 대상으로 2년차 선발을 수행한 결과, 12품종에서 10%미만의 낮은 노린재 피해율을 나타내었으며, 기타 대부분은20~30% 의 피해율이었다. 3. 아울러 효율적인 노린재검정방법을 개발하고자 일품검정콩을 공시하여 콩 생육단계별 노린재 피해정도를 조사한 결과, 협비대기보다 종실비대기에서 노린재 피해협율이 급격히 높아지는 경향을 보였으며, R6에서 35.5%로 노린재 피해가 가장 심하였다. 4. 협피해율에 따른 저항성 유전자원을 선발한 결과는 Peking이 10.3%로 가장 낮았고, 소록콩, 황색준저리 및 소백나물콩 순서로 낮았으며, 이러한 결과는 종실에서도 유사하였으며, 공통적으로 소립종이 대립종에 비하여 저항성 정도가 강한 경향을 나타내었다. 5. 또한 노린재 기피반응을 구체적으로 구명하기 위하여 Peking과 소록콩을 별도로 시험한 결과, R5시기에서는 Peking이 10.0% 및 소록콩이 14.2%의 피해율을 보였지만, R5.5시기를 넘어가면서 피해율이 급격히 저하되는 것으로 보아 이 시기에 콩 내부 조직적으로 노린재의 접근을 저지시키는 성분변화가 나타나는 것으로 추측되었다. 6. 상기의 결과로부터 소록콩, 소백나물콩, Peking 및 황색준저리 등 4개의 저항성 유전자원은 금후 노린재에 대한 내충성 콩 품종개발을 위한 육종소재로서의 이용이 기대된다.3.25±0.98, benzoyl peroxide는 0.68±1.13 , chlorhexidine은 3.14±0.55 , 키토산-benzoyl peroxide은 0.48±0.56 , 키토산-chlorhexidine은 2.55±0.88CFU/ml 로 각각 현저히 감소하였다 (p<0.01). 0.1% 키토산 단독보다는 소량의 benzoyl peroxide 또는 chlorhexidine을 혼합용액의 항균효과가 현저히 증가하였다. 따라서 0.1%키토산은 S. intermedius에 대하여 in vitro 및 in vivo에서 항균효과를 나타내었으며 개의 화농성 농피증의 국소제제로 적용가능성이 있을 것으로 사료된다.한 천연식품으로서 우울증, 불안증 등의 관련 질환의 예방, 치료용 의약품 개발과 기능성 식품에 효과적으로 이용될 수 있음을 시사한다.tall fescue 23%, Kentucky bluegrass 6%, perennial ryegrass 8%) 및 white clover 23%를 유지하였다. 이상의 결과를 종합할 때, 초종과 파종비율에 따른 혼파초지의 건물수량과 사료가치의 차이를 확인할 수 있었으며, 레드 클로버 + 혼파 초지가 건물수량과 사료가치를 높이는데 효과적이었다. 이었으며 , yeast extract 첨가(添加)하여 배양시(培養時)는 yeast extract 농도(濃度)가 증가(增加)함에 따라 단백질(蛋白質) 함량(含量)도 증가(增加)하였다. 7. Full seed stage (R6) was highest to 35.5% for stink bug damage rate. Result of resistant genetic resources selection according to stink bug damage pod rate was lowed of best to 10.3% for "Peking, Sorogkong, Hwangsaegjunjeari and Sobaeknamulkong" in the order. Also, stink bug damage seed rate was similar too. So "Peking, Sorogkong, Hwangsaegjunjeari and Sobaeknamulkong" were thought resistant variety against stink bug. Additional study carried out with "Peking and Sorogkong" so that concretely investigate about stink bug's refuse reaction. This result showed 10.0% for Peking and 14.2% for Sorogkong at R6 stage. But, damage pod rate was rapidly lowed.

        VTS를 이용한 두류종실에 대한 노린재류의 선호성 평가

        Preference of stink bugs to various leguminous seeds was evaluated by using VTS (Video Tracking System) in laboratory. Major soybean stink bugs such as bean bug, Riptortus pedestris (Fabricius), one-banded stink bug, Piezodorus hybneri (Gmelin), eastern green stink bug, Nezara antennata (Scott), and sole bug, Dolycoris baccarum (L.) were significantly most attracted to Cheongjakong, a soybean variety, baited fish-net trap, followed by soybean varieties Ilpumgeomjeongkong and Taekwangkong, a peanut variety Daekwangdangkong, a kidney bean variety Gangnangkong, and a adzuki bean variety Jungwonpat, respectively in a soybean field. VTS observation in laboratory showed that R. pedestris and D. baccarum had significantly higher frequency of visit on Cheongjakong, followed by Ilpumgeomjeongkong. However, P. hybneri, N. antennata and Halyomorpha halys (Stal) had significantly higher number of visits on Cheongjakong, Seonnogkong and Jinpumkong, followed by Ilpumgeomjeongkong. The sojourned time of stink bugs, however, was significantly longer on Cheongjakong regardless of species of the bugs. Accordingly, Cheongjakong was evaluated as the most preferred soybean seed by fish-net trap and VTS. Thus, VTS is found to be an effective means to evaluate the food preference of stink bugs.

        Effect of Gelatinase and Chitinase Producing Microorganism on the Growth of Soybean and Control of Stink Bug in Field

        This study was conducted to investigate the application effect of Lysobacter antibioticus HS124 (gelatinase and chitinase producing microorganism; GCM) for the improvement of soybean yield and control of stink bug. Our results showed that the yield of GCM-treated soybean increased by 17.0, 20.3, 19.0, and 25.6% in the experimental field sites of Muan-gun, Sunchang-gun, Gwangju 1, and Gwangju 2, respectively, compared to the yield of the soybean obtained by conventional practice treatment (CPT); however in the Gimjae-si, the yield decreased by 10.6%. Results in both pods and seeds plant<SUP>-1</SUP> were significantly increased in Gwangju 2 by the GCM cultured broth treatment (GCMT). Ratio of 3 seeds pod<SUP>-1</SUP> in Sunchang-gun was statistically significant between GCMT and CPT, however, the result in the other field showed no significance. Germination rate was only statistically improved by GCMT in Gwangju 2 field site. GCMT reduced the appearance of stink bug in all experimental field sites except in Gimjae-si. The soybean seed damage by stink bug was no significance in all of treatments. Therefore, GCMT could improve the productivity of soybean and also control the infestation of stink bug.

        Green Stink Bug (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) Recorded as a New Pest of Olive in India

        During the survey of olive orchards in Jammu and Kashmir, various insect pests were recorded infesting olive which include, olive psylla, olive black scale, scarab beetle and green stink bug. Among these green stink bug, Nezara virudula (L.) [Hemiptera: Pentatomidae] has been recorded for the first time in India.

      • Developmental Rate of Halymorpha halys (Hemiptera:Pentatomidae) Fed on Different Food Sources

        The brown marmorated stink bug Halyomorpha halys Stål (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), is native to Korea, Japan, and China. H. halys is one of the major polyphagous pentatomids with a wide host range encompassing ornamental shrubs, trees, and cultivated crops such as millet, sesame, soybean, apple, yuzu, pear, cherry, and peach and inflicting losses of several crops in Korea. However, study on dietary importance of these hosts on the development rate of H. halys is sparse. We evaluated fruits of apple and orange with or without soybean plus peanuts as food sources to investigate development rate, mortality and fecundity of the stink bug. Not apple but orange only diet could support development up to adult stage but with higher mortality. First instars were found to molt into second instars without feeding. The longest time H. halys took to develop was in its fifth instar. Overall shortest developmental period (39.82) days was recorded on those fed on orange+soybean and peanut whereas those fed on orange only diet had longest development period (78.92 days). Generational mortality of those fed on diets consisting of soybean and peanuts ranged from 43 to 53%. Those only fed on water could not develop into third instars. H. halys could not develop into fourth instar in apple only diet. However, on orange only diet 20% H. halys could emerge as adults. Fecundity was measured for the first day of oviposition per female. Fecundity was recorded highest (28 eggs) on orange+soybean and peanut diets. The results suggest that H. halys require leguminous seeds in order to develop fully and lay fertile eggs.

        Gymnosoma rotundatum (Diptera: Tachinidae) attracted to the aggregation pheromone of Plautia stali (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae)

        The brown-winged green stink bug, Plautia stali Scott (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), is an important fruitpiercing bug. A monitoring study on the seasonal density change of P. stali using traps baited with methyl (E,E,Z)-2,4,6-decatrienoate, the aggregation pheromone of the P. stali, resulted in the first capture of adult tachinid flies, Gymnosoma rotundatum (Diptera: Tachinidae), in Korea. The parasitoid fly may worth studying as a biological control agent in the management of P. stali.

      • Use of aggregation pheromone traps increases Riptortus pedestris (Hemiptera: Alydidae) populations in soybean fields during the fall season

        Riptortus pedestris (F.) (Hemiptera: Alydidae) is an important pest of soybeans in Korea and Japan. A synthetic aggregation pheromone trap has been commercialized and used in soybean fields in Korea for both monitoring and mass-capture of this bug. As the trap’s efficacy in reducing the pest population or crop damage is unknown, in this study we evaluated the aggregation pheromone trap in experimental soybean fields located in Andong National University. Two treatments, one with traps deployed for the entire cultivation period and one with no traps, were tested in six small experimental fields. The total numbers of R. pedestris (in all life stages) in soybean field were not significantly different between the treatments until August. But, in presence of pheromone, the pest’s abundance increased significantly in September and October. Relative to the size of the bug population in the field, trap catch rate was low during the fall (when bug density was highest) and high in early summer when the field population was very low. Placement of aggregation traps in plots caused pod and seed damage from R. pedestris to increase 2.7 and 2.2 times compared to the control. In conclusion, R. pedestris populations increased significantly during the fall in the presence of the aggregation pheromone trap, which should therefore be used with great caution whether as a control measure or as a monitoring tool.
