        이정암과 연안성 전투의 군사적 의의

        On April 13, 1592, the invasionof Japanese army into Joseon (former Korea) began the Japanese invasion of Korea (Imjinwaeran). In the beginning, Joseon soldiers were continually defeated by the Japanese army. There were many reasons for the defeat in the battle, but the biggest cause was the loss of public support from people due to the tyranny of their military commanders and public officials. As a result, King Seonjo not only fled to Uiju, but also sought asylum in the Ming Dynasty, thus the country facing the brink of ruin. Under the situation, the former public officials and prominent scholars started to recruit the members of righteous army. Patriotic people, regardless of their classes, volunteered to fight their lives only in order to save the country from the Japanese invasion. Lee Jeongam also raised an army under the same situation, and with him, some 1,400 volunteer soldiers and people were mixed up to fight 5,000 Japanese soldiers led by Kuroda Nagamasa, which was one of the most elite troops in the Japanese military. The military implications which resulted in the victory under the commader of the righteous army, Lee Jeongam at the Yeonanseong battle are as follows. First, it was the first fortress defending battle which was won by Joseon for the first time. Second, soldiers and general people united to fight the Japanese soldiers. Third, the righteous army of Joseon had a thorough combat preparation and effective combat action. Fourth, they had the mentality of civil defense and the spirit of patriotism of defending their homecountry to the end of their life. Fifth. they could sustain the ability of continuing the battles by securing the Yeonbaek rice field areas (breadbasket area). Sixth, the line of border was established which linked between three provinces: Chungcheong-do, Jeolla-do and Gyeongsang-do, and the King's temporary quarters (Haengjaeso) located in Uiju (King Seonjo). What’s disappointing is that since the critical locations in this study are located in North Korea, the study has been lacking research and attention. So, the continuous and systematic research is required in the future.

        Pyrexia is a new thermal transient receptor potential channel endowing tolerance to high temperatures in Drosophila melanogaster

        Several transient receptor potential channels were recently found to be activated by temperature stimuli in vitro. Their physiological and behavioral roles are largely unknown. From a temperature-preference behavior screen of 27,000 Drosophila melanogaster P-insertion mutants, we isolated a gene, named pyrexia (pyx), encoding a new transient receptor potential channel. Pyx was opened by temperatures above 40 °C in Xenopus laevis oocytes and HEK293T cells. It was ubiquitously expressed along the dendrites of a subset of peripheral nervous system neurons and was more permeable to K<SUP>+</SUP> than to Na<SUP>+</SUP>. Although some pyx alleles resulted in abnormal temperature preferences, pyx null flies did not have significantly different temperature preferences than wild-type flies. But 60% of pyx null flies were paralyzed within 3 min of exposure to 40 °C, whereas only 9% of wild-type flies were paralyzed by the same stimulus. From these findings, we propose that the primary in vivo role of Pyx is to protect flies from high-temperature stress.

      • 가중 결합 방식을 이용한 새로운 BOC 상관함수

        본 논문에서는 가중 결합 방식을 이용한 새로운 이진 옵셋 반송파 (binary offset carrier: BOC) 상관함수를 제안한다. 먼저, 수신 받은 BOC 신호에 대해 하나의 부반송파 펄스를 여러 개의 구형 펄스로 해석하고, 그에 따른 부분상관함수들을 생성한다. 이후 생성된 부분상관함수들 중 일부를 절대값의 합과 차를 이용하여 결합하고, 그 결과를 나머지 부분상관함수들과 가중 결합을 수행하여 주변 첨두가 제거된 새로운 비모호 BOC 상관함수를 생성한다. BOC 코드 추적에 제안한 새로운 비모호 BOC 상관함수를 이용한 경우, 기존의 상관함수들을 이용한 경우들에 비해 더욱 향상된 코드 추적 성능을 가진다는 것을 모의실험을 통해 확인한다.

        SIGMA 큐브위성의 비행 소프트웨어 개발

        SIGMA(Scientific cubesat with Instruments for Global Magnetic field and rAdiation) 큐브위성은 근 지구 자기장 세기와 우주 방사선량 측정을 위해 경희대학교에서 개발한 초소형인공위성이다. 우주 임무 수행을 위해 비행 소프트웨어는 위성을 제어하고 데이터를 처리하는 중요한 역할을 담당한다. 본 연구에서는 SIGMA 큐브위성의 임무 수행을 위해 비행소프트웨어를 구현한 것으로서 일반적으로 임베디드 시스템에서 사용하는 실시간 운영체제를 사용하지 않고 단일 프로세스 내에서 모든 태스크를 처리하도록 구현하였다. 이는 SIGMA 큐브위성의 임무 수행 절차와 시스템 제어 방법을 고려한 것으로서 소프트웨어의 오버헤드(overhead)를 낮추고 임무 수행에 집중할 수 있는 효과적인 방법이다. SIGMA(Scientific cubesat with Instruments for Global Magnetic field and rAdiation) CubeSat has been developed for magnetic field measurement of the Earth and space radiation measurement at Kyung Hee university. The flight software plays important roles in controlling the satellite and processing the data in the space mission. In this paper, the Flight Software has been implemented to process all the tasks in the one thread without RTOS(Real Time Operating System). This is an effective mothed not only to concentrate the space mission of CubeSat but also to reduce the overhead of the Flight Software by considering the mission perform procedures and the system control methods.

        Investigation of the active sites and optimum Pd/Al of Pd/ZSM–5 passive NO adsorbers for the cold-start application: Evidence of isolated-Pd species obtained after a high-temperature thermal treatment

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We investigated the chemisorptive NO adsorption ability at a low temperature (120 °C) of the Pd/ZSM–5 passive NO<SUB>x</SUB> adsorbers (PNA) to address the cold-start NO<SUB>x</SUB> emission. The Pd/ZSM–5 showed a much higher NO adsorption ability after the oxidative treatment at 750 °C compared with the 500 °C treatment; according to the combined EXAFS, XPS and XRD results, atomically dispersed Pd species were formed over the former, while small PdO agglomerates were observed over the latter. The Pd species on the Pd/ZSM–5 were further examined by applying a NH<SUB>4</SUB>NO<SUB>3</SUB>-titration method, where an ion exchange occurred with only the ionic Pd in the zeolite. When the Pd(2)/ZSM–5 was treated at 750 °C, it exchanged ions with an NH<SUB>4</SUB>NO<SUB>3</SUB> solution whereby most of the Pd was ion-exchanged, and this resulted in a decreased NO adsorption capability. Alternatively, a much lesser amount of ion-exchanged Pd was found on the Pd/ZSM–5 that was treated at 500 °C. The combined results indicate that the ionic-Pd species on the ZSM–5, not the bulk PdO, are the active sites for the chemisorptive NO adsorption at the low temperature. The NO adsorption capability was also investigated as a function of the Pd loading and the Si-to-Al<SUB>2</SUB> molar ratio of the ZSM–5. The results suggest that an optimum Pd-to-Al molar ratio exists for the Pd/ZSM–5 with the maximum NO adsorption capability, which was found at around 0.25, thereby suggesting that the Al in the ZSM–5 framework led to the high dispersion of the ionic-Pd species up to the optimum Pd/Al ratio. Above the optimum Pd/Al ratio, however, the bulk-PdO phase formed on the ZSM–5 resulting in a lower NO adsorption capability; that is, the ZSM–5 with the higher Al content required a higher Pd amount for the attainment of the optimum NO adsorption capability.       • A Drosophila Gustatory Receptor Required for Strychnine Sensation

        <P>Strychnine is a potent, naturally occurring neurotoxin that effectively protects plants from animal pests by deterring feeding behavior. In insects, such as the fruit fly, <I>Drosophila melanogaster</I>, bitter-tasting aversive compounds are detected primarily through a family of gustatory receptors (GRs), which are expressed in gustatory receptor neurons. We previously described multiple GRs that eliminate the behavioral avoidance to all bitter compounds tested, with the exception of strychnine. Here, we report the identity of a strychnine receptor, referred to as GR47a. We generated a mutation in <I>Gr47a</I> and found that it eliminated strychnine repulsion and strychnine-induced action potentials. GR47a was narrowly tuned, as the responses to other avoidance compounds were unaffected in the mutant animals. This analysis supports an emerging model that Drosophila GRs fall broadly into two specificity classes—one class is comprised of core receptors that are broadly required, whereas the other class, which includes GR47a, consists of narrowly tuned receptors that define chemical specificity.</P>

      • Application of Audio Watermarking Procedures for Mix Music

        In this paper we applies typical four audio watermarking technologies to protect ownership or copyright of mix music which is combined two or three pre-existing song. In experimental results, applied watermarking technologies cannot be applicable to mix music and three technologies fail to extract watermarks from mix music. This results is from mix music that does not contain full watermark information. Therefore applicable watermarking technology should development for mix music. The common problem of failed technologies cannot extract the second watermark from underlying mix music.

        Improving TCP Performance in Multipath Packet Forwarding Networks

        This paper investigates schemes to improve TCP performance in multipath forwarding networks. In multipath routing, packets to the same destination are sent to multiple next-hops in either packet-level or flow-level forwarding mode. Effective bandwidth is increased since we can utilize unused capacity of multiple paths to the destination. In packet-level multipath forwarding networks, TCP performance may not be enhanced due to frequent out-of-order segment arrivals at the receiver because of different delays among paths. To overcome this problem, we propose simple TCP modifications. At the sender, the fast retransmission threshold is adjusted taking the number of paths into consideration. At the receiver, the delayed acknowledgment scheme is modified such that an acknowledgment for an out-of-order segment arrival is delayed in the same way for the in-order one. The number of unnecessary retransmissions and congestion window reductions is diminished, which is verified by extensive simulations. In flow-level multipath forwarding networks, hashing is used at routers to select outgoing link of a packet. Here, we show by simulations that TCP performance is increased in proportion to the number of paths regardless of delay differences.

        Preparation of Nitrogen-doped Carbon Nanowire Arrays by Carbonization of Mussel-inspired Polydopamine

        Based on mussel-inspired polydopamine (PDA), a novel technique to fabricate carbon nanowire (CNW) arrays is presented for a possible use of porous carbon electrode in electrochemical energy storage applications. PDA can give more porosity and nitrogen-doping effect to carbon electrodes, since it has high graphitic carbon yield characteristic and rich amine functionalities. Using such outstanding properties, the applicability of PDA for electrochemical energy storage devices was investigated. To achieve this, the decoration of the CNW arrays on carbon fiber surface was performed to increase the surface area for storage of electrical charge and the chemical active sites. Here, zinc oxide (ZnO) nanowire (NW) arrays were hydrothermally grown on the carbon fiber surface and then, PDA was coated on ZnO NWs. Finally, high temperature annealing was performed to carbonize PDA coating layers. For higher energy density, manganese oxide (MnO<sub>x</sub>) nanoparticles (NP<sub>s</sub>), were deposited on the carbonized PDA NW arrays. The enlarged surface area induced by carbon nanowire arrays led to a 4.7-fold enhancement in areal capacitance compared to that of bare carbon fibers. The capacitance of nanowire-decorated electrodes reached up to 105.7 mF/cm<sup>2</sup>, which is 59 times higher than that of pristine carbon fibers.
