Database systems have traditionally provided the support for the typical business data processing applications such as inventory control, order entry, and billing. In these applications, the database system has provided a repository for applications data, and in the case of relational databases, a query language that makes it easy to access and manipulate data. New applications such as CAD/CAM, OIS(office information system), statistical databases, expert systems, and text retrieval systems would also benefit from these database management services, but such applications require data models, storage techniques, and access methods that are not normally provided by traditional database management systems. One approach to providing the new data types, operations, access methods, storage techniques, and other features needed for such applications in through developing an extensible database systems. In this paper, we study two extensible database systems; POSTGRES, Starburst.

A decorder is developed for correcting the single burst of errors. The convolutional code of Type-B2 is used for this purpose. This decoder has the ability to correct all bursts confined to m-l or fewer consecutive blocks with a guard space of the(m-1) consecutive error free blocks. A simple logical circuitry, having the same order of complexity as a pairity check circuit for a block code, is implemented to correct the errors in a communication system. The decoder used the (18,12) convolational code is designed and tested. Experimental results confirm the error-correcting ability.

For the effective management and protection of information, we have to discriminate whether the information was illegally changed or not, in order to keep a secret. And the peace-preservation service, such as digital signature which is genernal used in the use for the denial prevention of sender/receiver fact is required. To support the safe service, the methed of distributing key is an important task, which is to setlle the problem of supervising the key in the system of the code. This thesis is aimed at presenting the measures to establish the effective system of supervising the key by using the public one-way Hash fuction which solves the problems in the public key-system.
On the Beam Focusing Behavior of Time Reversed Ultrasonic Arrays Using a Multi-Gaussian Beam Model

One of the fundamental features of time reversal acoustic (TRA) techniques is the ability to focus the propagating ultrasonic beam to a specific point within the test material. Therefore, it is important to understand the focusing properties of a TR device in many applications including nondestructive testing. In this paper, we employ an analytical scheme for the analysis of TR beam focusing in a homogeneous medium. More specifically, a nonparaxial multi-Gaussian beam (NMGB) model is used to simulate the focusing behavior of array transducers composed of multiple rectangular elements. The NMGB model is found to generate accurate beam fields beyond the nonparaxial region. Two different simulation cases are considered here for the focal points specified on and off from the central axis of the array transducer. The simulation results show that the focal spot size increases with increasing focal length and focal angle. Furthermore, the maximum velocity amplitude does not always coincide with the specified focal point. Simulation results for the off-axis focusing cases do demonstrate the accurate steering capability of the TR focusing.
In situ solid phase epitaxial growth of C49-TiSi₂on Si (111)-7×7 substrate

C49.TiSi₂film was grown epitaxially on Si(111) substrate by depositing Ti film on Si(111)-7×7 surface followed by in situ annealing in ultrahigh vacuum. The deposition was monitored by means of reflection high energy electron diffraction as a function of the thickness of Ti film. The best result for the growth of epitaxial C49-TiSi₂was obtained from the Ti (30ML)/Si(111)-7×7 sample which was annealed at 650℃ for 20min. Images of cross-sectional high resolution transmission electron microscopy shows that the silicide/silicon interface is shown to be clear and flat. The orientation relationships are TiSi₂[211]ll [011], TiSi₂(120)llSi(111) without misorientation angle. Almost the whole area of the TiSi₂layer is revealed as an epitaxial C49 structure.××
Ghrelin Levels in Gastric Mucosa before and after Eradication of Helicobacter pylori

Background/Aims: The relationship between Helicobacter pylori infection and ghrelin is controversial. We compared ghrelin levels in gastric mucosa and plasma between H. pylori-positive and -negative subjects, and between before and after H. pylori eradication. Methods: We compared the ghrelin levels in the antrum, body, and fundus between H. pylori-positive and -negative subjects; in stomach tissues between before and after H. pylori eradication; and in plasma and tissue in 10-person cohorts between before and after H. pylori eradication therapy. Body mass index, age, and sex were controlled for when comparing ghrelin levels. Results: Stomach ghrelin levels (in the antrum, body, and fundus) did not differ significantly between H. pylori-positive and -negative samples (p=0.095, 0.316, and 0.897, respectively), or between before and after H. pylori eradication (p=0.19, 0.178, and 0.513, respectively). In the ten-person cohort study, plasma ghrelin levels in the eight H. pylori-positive subjects were 2,260 pg/mL (range, 1,280-3,770 pg/mL) and 1,900 pg/mL (range, 1,350-5,200 pg/mL) before and after eradication therapy (p=0.871). Stomach ghrelin levels did not differ significantly in the eight H. pylori-positive subjects between before and after H. pylori eradication (p=0.732, 0.618, and 0.435 in the antrum, body, and fundus, respectively), or between six eradicated and two noneradicated subjects (p=0.071, 0.857, 0.429, and 0.857 in the antrum, body, fundus, and plasma, respectively). Conclusions: These results show that H. pylori infection has no effect on stomach ghrelin levels and that eradication therapy does not influence plasma or tissue ghrelin levels. N/A Background : The present study was aimed at investigating the predictive parameters of erythropoietin (epoetin) hyporesponsiveness in patients on continous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). Methods : We studied 40 patients with end-stage renal disease who had been receiving CAPD for at least 6 months and epoetin therapy for at least more than 2 months. Pearson’s simple correlation and multiple stepwise linear regression analysis was used to discover what parameter can predict epoetin resistance. We expressed epoetin resistance index (ERI) as ‘weekly epoetin dose/hematocrit/ body weight’. The dose of epoetin is titrated by about 25% every 2 to 4 weeks to maintain a target hematocrit level between 33% and 36%. Results : We analyzed the relationship between ERI and other predictive parameters by Pearson’s correlation. These results showed ERI has a statistically significant correlation with transferrin saturation (TS) (r=-0.327, p=0.042), total weekly Kt/Vurea (r=-0.423, p=0.018), serum albumin level (r=-0.458, p= 0.003), normalized protein catabolic rate (nPCR) (r=-0.479, p=0.006), normalized protein equivalent of total nitrogen appearance (nPNA) (r=-0.488, p=0.005) and serum C-reactive protein (CRP) (r=0.332, p=0.036). Regression analysis was performed using stepwise linear regression for multiple variables to discover the most independent variable which is correlated with ERI. ERI was entered as a dependent variable, whereas the other parameters (age, duration of peritoneal dialysis, serum albumin level, CRP, serum ferritin, total weekly Kt/Vurea, nPCR, nPNA, serum iPTH, serum aluminium, TS) were entered as independent variables. This analysis showed CRP is the most significant variable and, if CRP is excluded, nPNA is the significant variable. CRP has a statistically significant correlation with serum albumin level (r=-0.418, p=0.007) and total weekly Kt/Vurea (r=-0.366, p=0.043). High CRP group has more increased level of ERI (p<0.05), age (p<0.05) and serum creatinine level (p<0.05) than normal control, but more decreased level of serum albumin (p<0.01) and serum iron levels (p<0.05). Conclusion : These results indicate that CRP is the most important predictor of epoetin hyporesponsiveness.
