        Screening Tool for Anxiety Disorders: Development and Validation of the Korean Anxiety Screening Assessment

        Objective This study evaluated the psychometric properties of the Korean Anxiety Screening Assessment (K-ANX) developed for screening anxiety disorders. Methods Data from 613 participants were analyzed. The K-ANX was evaluated for reliability using Cronbach’s alpha, item-total correlation, and test information curve, and for validity using focus group interviews, factor analysis, correlational analysis, and item characteristics based on item response theory (IRT). The diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of the K-ANX were compared with those of the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item scale (GAD-7). Results The K-ANX showed excellent internal consistency (α=0.97) and item-total coefficients (0.92–0.97), and a one-factor structure was suggested. All items were highly correlated with the total scores of the BAI, GAD-7, and Penn State Worry Questionnaire. IRT analysis indicated the K-ANX was most informative as a screening tool for anxiety disorders at the range between 0.8 and 1.6 (i.e., top 21.2 to 5.5 percentiles). Higher sensitivity (0.795) and specificity (0.937) for identifying anxiety disorders were observed in the K-ANX compared to the BAI and GAD-7. Conclusion The K-ANX is a reliable and valid measure to screen anxiety disorders in a Korean sample, with greater sensitivity and specificity than current measures of anxiety symptoms.

      • Contextual Factors Affecting the Innovative Performance of Manufacturing SMEs in Korea

        In recent decades, the significance of technological innovation of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) has increased considerably in the fast-changing and increasingly competitive global market. In this vein, researchers have traditionally considered a number of explanatory variables related to firms’ general characteristics to explain innovative behavior of firms. However, indeed, although environment (e.g., government and public policies, surrounding culture, knowledge/technology acquisition, networking) has a determining direct and indirect impact on firms’ strategies, structuring and behavior, very few relevant empirical works have conducted. This study empirically explores the relationship between innovative performance and the internal and contextual factors driving technological innovation in manufacturing SMEs in Korea using a structural equation modeling. Our analysis is based on firm-level data from the Korean Innovation Survey conducted by the Science and Technology Policy Institute in 2014, and we use a sample of 212 manufacturing SMEs. According to the results, our findings empirically verified that both contextual factors and internal factors play a central role in the creation and sustenance of SMEs’ innovative performance through their innovative capacity.

      • Effective detective quantum efficiency of two detectors in a prototype digital breast tomosynthesis

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) system is a novel imaging modality that strongly depends on the detector performance. The effective detective quantum efficiency (eDQE) is a newly accepted system of performance analysis metric that solves the disadvantages of conventional DQE evaluations, which do not consider clinical operating conditions. To evaluate the eDQE, we used the direct-conversion based Anrad detector and the indirect-conversion based Dexela detector. Our aim is to study the performance of such detectors when they are mounted on a prototype DBT system. The prototype DBT system consists of a CsI(Tl) scintillator/CMOS-based flat panel digital detector and an a-Se based direct conversion detector developed by the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI). The performance of the two detectors was compared on the basis of scatter fraction, transmission factor, effective modulation transfer function (eMTF), and effective normalized noise power spectrum (eNNPS). As a result, the Dexela detector is characterized by a decreasing eNNPS trend as the spatial frequency increases, whereas the Anrad eNNPS looks almost independent of the spatial frequency. The eMTF was found to be higher in the Anrad detector compared to that in the Dexela one for all frequencies. The eDQE values at 1 cycle/mm (low frequency) were 0.11 and 0.17 for the Anrad and Dexela detectors, respectively, and the values of the spatial frequency <SUB> f e D Q E ( 0.1 ) </SUB> , corresponding to eDQE = 0.1, were 1.25 and 2.81 cycles/mm for the Anrad and Dexela detectors, respectively. The Dexela detector also presented a higher contrast-to-noise ratios (CNRs) for all different sizes of μCa groups, thus demonstrating overall better eDQE results in imaging performance compared to the Anrad detector.</P>

      • Effect of Ovarian Extract on Oocyte Maturation and Early Embryonic Development in Pigs

        Various factors in the ovary are known to regulate oocyte maturation and hormone secretory functions; however, the effect of ovarian extract (OE) on oocyte maturation and embryonic development in pigs remains unknown. In this study, we first evaluated whether OE supplementation in the in vitro maturation (IVM) medium alters the oocyte maturation capacity by affecting glucose/amino acid metabolites, meiotic maturation, cumulus cell (CC) expansion, and antioxidants. Various OE concentrations (50, 100, 200, 500, and 5000 μg/mL) were included in the IVM medium. Only the oocytes treated with 100 μg/mL OE exhibited an improved meiotic maturation rate when compared with that of the other groups (non-treated group, 78.6 ± 3.0% vs. 100 μg/mL OE-treated group, 81.6 ± 4.3%); however, the difference was not significant. To observe the changes in glucose and amino acid metabolism in the OE-treated oocytes, we measured the amounts of diverse constituents (glucose, lactate, glutamine, and ammonia) in the IVM medium containing OE. Lactate and ammonia levels in the OE-treated group after 44 h of IVM were higher (p < 0.01) than those in the non-treated group. In addition, the expression of the CC expansion factors (Has2 and Tnfaip6) significantly increased (p < 0.05), whereas the mRNA expression levels of antioxidative enzymes (Sod1, Cat, and Gpx1) significantly diminished (p < 0.05) in the OE-treated group. Moreover, mature oocytes treated with 100 μg/mL OE demonstrated increased subsequent embryonic development rates after 144 h of IVM. Thus, the addition of OE in IVM mediums may improve oocyte maturation capacity which could enhance antioxidative enzyme activation, energy metabolism, and expression of the CC expansion factors in porcine oocytes.

        The purpose of this study is to classify fashion brand app types through current fashion brand app releases. To this end, this study used Internet Web, articles, newspapers, and existing studies on brand applications as well as the data that were analyzed after downloading the relevant brand app. Firstly, this study aimed to analyze rapidly growing smartphone market and brand app market situations and look into brand app`s own characteristics from the corporate marketing perspective. In addition, the study divided the types into a basic information type and an additional information type by analyzing functions of 30 fashion brand apps. As the result, the basic information type contains product info, store info, fashion info, and coordination info. The additional information type contains entertainment, hobbies, life info, mutual experiences, and sharing services. According to the divided fashion brand app types, the goals of companies also can be divided as three. Firstly, the aim is to expand sales, secondly to improve brand awareness, and lastly to build customer relationship. Consequently, companies will have to select brand app types suitable for their goals and provide to consumers.

        스마트폰 이용 동기와 패션 브랜드 앱 내용이 패션 브랜드 앱 수용의도에 미치는 영향

        This study investigated the effects of smart phone usage motives and fashion brand app factors upon the intention to accept fashion brand applications. Data were collected from 250 female college students living in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. 220 reliable data were analyzed by frequency, factor analysis, Cronbach`s alpha, ANOVA,, Duncan test, paired t-test, chi-square analysis, regression. The results were as follows: Firstly, the ‘information acquisition`` and the`use of time` were considered to be the most important motive factors driving consumer`s smart phone usage. Secondly, the motives underpinning smart phone user`s intention to accept a fashion brand application were ``social relationships``, ``entertainment``, and ``information acquisition``. Thirdly, the frequently used factors during the usage of fashion brand application could be classified in order of frequency as follows: ``product information provision``, ``store information provision``, ``coordinated information provision``, ``fashion information provision``, ``entertainment provision``, ``hobbies and life information provision``, virtual wearing provision``, ``SNS provision``, and, ``events and coupons provision``. Fourthly, a factor analysis of these nine factors were classified into ‘basic information type’, and ‘additional information type’. The influences of basic information type and the additional information type upon the intention to accept the fashion brand application showed the following significant result: The basic information type had a greater influence upon the intention to accept the fashion brand app.

        연구자로서의 교사 되기 과정에 대한 자문화기술지

        이 글은 연구자인 ‘나’가 ‘연구자로서의 교사’로 성장하는 이야기를 그린 자문화기술지이다. 나는 이 글에 내 삶의 모습을 생생하게 재현하고자 했고, 이 글을 읽는 독자들이 나의 자전적 이야기를 통해 연구자로서의 교사 되기 과정 속 진솔한 체험과 그에 관한 의식들에 주목하기를 바랐다. 이 글은 독자들이 연구자로서의 교사 삶의 문화적 맥락을 깊이 이해하는 데에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다. 나는 연구자로서의 교사 되기 과정을 ‘태어나기’, ‘날아보기’, ‘떨어지기’, ‘날아가기’라는 의미적 틀로 제시하였다. ‘태어나기’에는 교육의 목적 찾기에 대한 열망으로 연구자 삶을 시작한 이야기가, ‘날아보기’에는 연구자로서의 교사상에 관한 긍정적 자아개념이 형성·발달되며 연구자로서의 교사로 성장을 해나가는 이야기가, ‘떨어지기’에는 연구자로서의 교사상에 관한 부정적 자아개념이 형성되며 성장에 어려움을 겪는 이야기가, ‘날아가기’에는 좌절을 극복하고 다시, 진정한 연구자로서의 교사가 되기를 꿈꾸는 이야기가 담겨 있다. 나는 연구자로서의 교사들이, 이상으로만 여기던 생각들을 우리 교육의 현실로 만들기 위해 끝없는 비상을 꿈꾸기를 바란다. 수많은 실속(失速)을 경험하더라도 날갯짓을 멈추지 않고, 푸른 하늘을 더 높이 더 멀리 비행하며 숭고한 목표를 추구하는 조나단 갈매기 무리처럼 빛나기를 빈다. This study is an autoethnography that tells the story of my growing up as a ‘teacher as researcher (TAR).’ The process of becoming a TAR is reproduced in this article. I tried to honestly describe my experiences and perceptions related to the process. Through this, I expect that readers of this article would be able to better understand the cultural context of the life of TARs. In this article, the growth period of TAR is divided into four stages of ‘Birth,’ ‘Flying,’ ‘Falling,’ and ‘Flying high.’ In ‘Birth,’ there is the story of a teacher trying to be a passionate TAR. In ‘Flying,’ there is the story of growing up as a TAR by forming and developing a positive self-concept regarding the image of TARs. In ‘Falling,’ there is the story describing difficulties in growth as a TAR by forming a negative self-concept. In ‘Flying high,’ there is the story of overcoming setbacks and dreaming of becoming a genuine TAR again. I want TARs to dream of a leap forward in order to make a story that was only dreamed of as an ideal to become a reality in our education. Even after experiencing numerous stalls, I hope that they will not stop flapping their wings, fly higher and farther in the blue sky, and shine like a flock of Jonathan Seagulls pursuing a noble goal.
