Hypernatremia(serum sodium>150meq/L) is caused by conditions that produce an excessive gain of sodium or result in an excessive loss of body fluid that is greater than the loss of sodium. The prognosis for hypernatremic dehydration is poorer than isotonic or hypotonic dehydration, because severe hyperosmolarity may result in cerebral damage( seizures, cerebral hemorrhages, thromboses, and subdural effusions). This cerebral injury may result in a permanent neurologic deficit. We experienced two cases of hypernatremic dehydration. Theses cases may have resulted from faulty preparation of infant formulas, as with the use of condensed milk powder. The first case experienced seizures during treatment, but survived, yet the second case died in spite of intensive care.

The study was intended to research the fact of roller skate players injury. For the study, kinds and parts of injuries, skills to be hurted, facility, injured time, cause, remedy, mental response and protecting were investigated through 182 roller skate players. The results were as follows : 1. The injury body part was showed that leg was the highest and followed by knee and ankle. 2. In the cause of injury was showed as follows: skills on corner work, bank track with concrete, 200m distance. 3. In the general cause of injury was showed: chronic fatigue by over training. 4. In the treatment and participation period after injury outbreak were showed: treatment period was toward the inside 1 week and participation to play during the treatment. 5. To the injury prevention players responded warm up, and cool down and mental-concentration were needed. Supervisor, coach and players responded knee protector wearing was needed in elementary school players and helmet-chin protector wearing in general players. The game rule revision was not necessary and the agree and disagree for ground unity to resemble. Almost players to be like concrete ground.

Background/Aims: We evaluated the proposed clinical application of the com-bined interpretation of host factors and viral factors in two different cytomegalo-virus (CMV) co-infection models. Methods: We prospectively enrolled all human immunodeficiency virus non-in-fected patients with confirmed Pneumocystitis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP) and those with suspected gastrointestinal CMV disease in a tertiary hospital. All patients underwent CMV interferon-γ releasing assay (IGRA) for CMV (T-track CMV, Lophius Biosciences). We created the 2-axis model with the CMV IGRA results as the x-axis and the results for CMV virus replication as the y-axis, and hypoth-esized that cases falling in the left upper quadrant (high viral load and low CMV- specific immunity) of the model would be true CMV infections. The CMV IGRA results were concealed from the attending physicians. Results: Of 39 patients with PCP, four (10%) were classified as combined CMV pneumonia, 13 (33%) as bystander activation, and the remaining 22 (56%) as no CMV infection. The data for all four patients with PCP and CMV pneumonia fell in the left upper quadrant of the 2-axis model. Of 24 patients with suspected gas-trointestinal CMV disease, 12 (50%) were classified as gastrointestinal CMV dis-ease and the remaining 12 (50%) as bystander activation with no gastrointestinal CMV disease. The data for 11 of the 12 patients (92%) with gastrointestinal CMV disease were located in the left upper quadrant of the 2-axis model. Conclusions: Cases yielding low CMV IGRA results and high CMV viral repli-cation appear to be true CMV infections. Further studies with large number of cases in different types of CMV disease should be proposed.

In this paper, a class of second-order boundary value problems with Sturm-Liouville boundary conditions or multi-point conditions is considered. Some existence and uniqueness theorems of positive solutions of the problem are obtained by using monotone iterative technique, the iterative sequences yielding approximate solutions are also given. The results are illustrated with an example.
Stimulation of Phospholipase D in HepG2 Cells After Transfection Using Cationic Liposomes

Lipid events in liposome-mediated transfection (lipofection) are largely unknown. Here we studied whether phospholipase D (PLD), an important enzyme responsible for phospholipid breakdown, was affected during lipofection of HepG2 cells with a luciferase plasmid. Synthetic cholesterol (Chol) derivatives, including $3{\beta}$[L-ornithinamide-carbamoyl]Chol, [polyamidoamine-carbamoyl]Chol and $3{\beta}$[N-(N',N'-dimethylaminoethane)-carbamoyl]Chol, and a cationic lipid, N-[1-(2,3-dioleyloxy)propyl]-N,N,N-trimethylammonium chloride were mixed with a helper lipid dioleoylphosphatidylethanolamine to form respective cationic liposomes. All cationic liposomes were found to stimulate PLD. Although orders of magnitude effects of the cationic liposomes on PLD stimulation did not consistently match those on cytotoxicity and luciferase expression, a causal relationship between PLD activation and cytotoxic effect was remarkable. PLD stimulation by the cationic liposomes was likely due to their amphiphilic characters, leading to membrane perturbation, as supported by similar results obtained with other membrane-perturbing chemicals such as oleate, melittin, and digitonin. Our results suggest that lipofection induces cellular lipid changes such as a PLD-driven phospholipid turnover.

<P><I>Artemisia iwayomogi</I> has been used as a folk medicine for treating various diseases including inflammatory and immune-related diseases. Scopoletin (<B>1</B>) and scopolin (<B>2</B>) were isolated from this species. Scopoletin (<B>1</B>) showed more potent peroxyl radical-scavenging capacity, reducing capacity, and cellular antioxidant capacity compared to scopolin (<B>2</B>). The inhibitory effect of <B>1</B> on the receptor activator of nuclear factor κB ligand-induced osteoclastic differentiation of RAW 264.7 macrophage cells was also more potent than that of <B>2</B>. The production of general reactive oxygen species (ROS) and superoxide anions during differentiation of preosteoclastic RAW 264.7 cells into osteoclasts was attenuated by compounds <B>1</B> and <B>2</B>. These findings indicate that the suppressive effects of <B>1</B> and <B>2</B> on the differentiation of preosteoclastic RAW 264.7 cells is partially due to their intracellular antioxidant capacity, as they can scavenge ROS and play an important signaling role in the differentiation process.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jnprdf/2013/jnprdf.2013.76.issue-4/np300824h/production/images/medium/np-2012-00824h_0005.gif'></P>
