        Positive enhancement of Lactobacillus fermentum HY01 on intestinal movements of mice having constipation

        Lactobacilli have been used to treat many gastrointestinal disorders. But the outcome of Lactobacilli are strain specific. The strain Lactobacillus Fermentum, HY01, (LF-HY01) has a good performance in the environment of gastrointestinal tract. In this study, the aim is to investigate the preventive effects of LF-HY01 against activated-carbon- induced constipation in mice. Mice are randomized into four groups. Normal group was fed a normal diet, model group also has the same with activated carbon treatment, and low and high concentration groups are treated with LF-HY01. We have determined many indexes such as body weight, water content in faeces, defecation conditions, the level of small intestinal villi damages and levels of various neurotransmitters in serum, including motilin (MTL), gastrin (GT), endothelin (ET), somatostatin (SST), acetylcholinesterase (AchE), substance P (SP), and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP). LF-HY01 has no significant difference in each group, but it can significantly improve water content of faeces, defecation time of first black stool and activated carbon propelling rate in small intestine as compared of model group. Furthermore, LFHY01 can effectively prevent small intestinal villi damages, which is less than that of model group. Moreover, LFHY01 has the consistency to increase the levels of MTL, GT, ET, AchE, SP and VIP, and LF-HY01 can also have the ability to reduce the level of SST. These results suggest that Lactobacillus Fermentum, HY01, has a great impact in enhancing intestinal peristalsis ability and has the ability to prevent from activated-carbon-induced constipation in mice.

        신데렐라 유형 설화의 비교 연구

        이 연구의 목적은 페미니즘 관점을 통해 한․중 양국 신데렐라 유형 설화를 비 교․분석하는 것이다. 양국의 신데렐라 유형 설화를 통해, 여자 주인공이 계모의 학 대를 당할 때 마다 어떤 방식으로 응대하고 자기의 운명을 헤쳐 나갔는지, 페미니즘 관점에서 작품에 등장한 인물을 들여다볼 때 어떤 읽기가 가능한 것인지 알아보려 한다. 한국의 「콩쥐 팥쥐」와 중국의「오러와 오도」를 분석해 보면, 여자 주인공이 계모 학대에 대한 대응방식이 다르고, 자유를 얻고 고난에서 벗어나는 과정에서도 서로 다른 행동과 사상이 나타난다는 것을 발견할 수 있다. 「콩쥐 팥쥐」와「오러와 오도」에 나오는 여자 주인공의 수난과 행복의 원인을 찾아보면, 아버지의 부재와 백마 탄 왕자(남성)의 출현을 들 수 있다. 아버지의 부재가 여성들로 하여 서로 시기, 질투하며 갈등하도록 조장했다. 이것은 남성 책임의 회피로도 볼 수 있다. 백마 탄 왕자에게 의존하여 여성의 운명이 결정되는 것은 페미니즘 관점에서 바라보면 최악의 시나리오다. 여성이 진정한 자유를 얻으려면 주체성을 확립해야 한다. 여성은 남성들이 타자로서 살도록 강요하는 수동의 세계에서 벗어나 자기를 발견하고, 자주적으로 자신을 선택하고, 자기초월을 통하여 주체성을 확립해야 한다. 그래서 콩쥐와 오러 같은 신데렐라들은 혼인 대상자가 나타나지 않더라도 자기 스스로 자신의 운명을 개척하며 자유를 얻어야 한다. The paper mainly aims to analyze the classical fairy tale Cinderella from the perspective of feminism. With more than a hundred versions so far, this fairy tale has become the most popular one in the world, which tells a story of a girl who escapes from a life of misery and lives a happy life by marrying to her Prince Charming. Though studies on this fairy tale by Chinese and Korean scholars have submerged into every aspect of politics and economics, yet little has been done from the perspective of feminism. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the fate of heroine and the role of males from the feminist point of view. By comparing the two versions, the paper analyzes the fate of the beautiful and kind heroines. Does she, like the original version,silently endures the maltreatment of her step-mother and accepts the prince’ proposal? We find that the heroine acts completely differently confronted with dufficulties and the choice of life in the two versions. From the perspective of “others” under the feminism, cinderella would always have been cinderella, not a princess, if not for the reason that humans are determined to seek a perfect ending for cinderella. The analysis of males in the tale shows that father, a central role in the family, though rarely appears in the tale, plays a significant, though latent, role. It is the absence of father at home that makes the step-mother dares to abuse the heroine recklessly and makes the appearance of the price charming and his saving her rational. The price charming is a key character in the tale in that he comes and rescues Cinderella in the end. However, he wouldn’t have found her if Cinderella hasn’t been charming and kind and seeked her freedom actively. From the point of feminism, above all Cinderella should have her unique characteristics, can she be appreciated by the prince and gain freedom. By comparing Chinese and Korean versions of Cinderella from the perspective of feminism, we find that the heroines differs in their attitudes when they are confronted with difficulties and the choice of life. In reality, where people cannot arrange a perfect life, Cinderella has to work her way to freedom and happiness if that’s what she wants.

        Research on torsional fretting wear behaviors and damage mechanisms of stranded-wire helical spring

        Wear on the local area of steel wires’ surface is attributed to torsional fretting on the working process of stranded-wire helical spring. A mathematical model to calculate normal contact force and angular displacement amplitude among the wires is established first when the spring is impacted. With the experimental parameters obtained from the model, the torsional fretting test, which stimulates torsional fretting among the wires in the working process of the spring, is realized successfully on a newly developed fretting tester. Torsional fretting behaviors are strongly dependent upon normal contact force, angular displacement amplitude, and number of cycles. There are three basic types of T-θ curves (short for torque), angular displacement curves during the process of torsional fretting, namely, parallelogram,elliptic, and linear T-θ curves. To analyze the damage mechanisms, distribution maps of oxygen in the wear scar of spring wires under different working conditions are revealed. The damage gets slight in the partial slip region, mainly with the abrasive wear and the slight oxidative wear, whereas the wear mechanisms are mainly the abrasive wear, the oxidative wear, and the delamination, accompanied with obvious plastic deformation in the mixed fretting and slip regions.

        Identification of pepper genes involved in the response to CO 2 enrichment using RNA-Seq analysis

        Pepper is widely cultivated, and the application of CO 2 promotes photosynthesis and increases its yield. However, the molecularmechanisms underlying this are still unclear. In this study, the photosynthetic correlation indexes under elevated CO 2and control conditions were compared. The application of CO 2 increased the photosynthetic capacity of pepper. Moreover,RNA-Seq analysis was used to identify genes that were diff erentially expressed between pepper leaves grown in CO 2 -enrichedconditions and those grown in control conditions. The 149 diff erentially expressed genes (DEGs) were found to be involvedin photosynthesis and other metabolic processes. According to GO signifi cant enrichment analysis, the proteins encodedby the DEGs were mainly found to be located in the chloroplast, the chloroplast matrix, and the apoplast. According toKEGG signifi cant enrichment analysis, the DEGs were found to be involved in glutathione metabolism; starch and sucrosemetabolism; and stilbenoid, diarylheptanoid, gingerol, fl avonoid, and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis. The DEGs were alsoinvolved in the pentose phosphate pathway, carbon metabolism, and porphyrin and chlorophyll metabolism. Based on theGO annotation and the KEGG database analysis, ten of the DEGs identifi ed were suggested to be involved in photosynthesisand related processes; these genes were predicted to have roles in carbohydrate, soluble sugar, and glutathione metabolism,and in raffi nose, cysteine, nucleotide, and ABA biosynthesis. These DEGs are involved in the pentose phosphate pathwayand tricarboxylic acid cycle of carbon assimilation during photosynthesis. One of the DEGs was also found to be involved inchlorophyll biosynthesis. These results lay the foundation for further investigation of the molecular mechanisms and genesinvolved in the response to CO 2 enrichment in peppers.

        Antihypertensive Effect of Few-flower Wild Rice (Zizania latifolia Turcz.) in Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats

        The antihypertensive activity of few-flower wildrice was studied in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs)with evaluation of blood pressure lowering effects andtranscriptional levels of the sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+-ATPase (SERCA2a) gene that is regulated by AngiotensinII (Ang II). SHRs were randomly divided into 5 groupswith 6 rats each. The systolic blood pressure (SBP) reachedthe lowest point 3 h after administration of a single dose ofpaste made from few-flower wild rice stem powder. TheSBP of SHR in the relatively high amount of RSP (HRSP)administrated group was reduced by approximately 30mmHg, compared to the negative control group, and wasnot significantly different from the positive control IPPcontrol group at a dose of 1.5 mg/kg body weight (p>0.05). RSP administrated SHRs showed a significantly higherSERCA2a transcription level than negative control SHRs(p<0.05). RSP administration had no negative effects onglycometabolism of SHR.
