<P>Although epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) have been introduced for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the emergence of secondary T790M mutation in EGFR or amplification of the Met proto-oncogene restrain the clinical success of EGFR-TKIs. Since heat shock protein-90 (Hsp90) stabilizes various oncoproteins including EGFR and c-Met, the inhibition of Hsp90 activity appears as a rational strategy to develop anticancer drugs. Despite preclinical efficacy of geldanamycin-anasamycin (GA)-derivatives containing benzoquinone moiety as Hsp90 inhibitors, the hepatotoxicity of these GA-derivatives restricts their therapeutic benefit. We have prepared WK-88 series of GA-derivatives, which lack the benzoquinone moiety. In this study, we have examined the anticancer effects of WK88-1 in Met-amplified- and gefitinib-resistant (HCC827GR) NSCLC cells and its parental HCC827 cells. Treatment with WK88-1 reduced the cell viability in both HCC827 and HCC827GR cells, which was associated with marked decrease in the constitutive expression of Hsp90 client proteins, such as EGFR, ErbB2, ErbB3, Met and Akt. Moreover, WK88-1 attenuated phosphorylation of these Hsp90 client proteins and reduced the anchorage-independent growth of HCC827GR cells. Administration of WK88-1 did not cause hepatotoxicity in animals and significantly reduced the growth of HCC827GR cells xenograft tumors in nude mice. Our study provides evidence that ErbB3 might be a client for Hsp90 in Met-amplified NSCLCs. In conclusion, we demonstrate that inhibition of Hsp90 dampens the activation of EGFR- or c-Met-mediated survival of Met-amplified NSCLCs and that WK88-1 as a Hsp90 inhibitor alleviates gefitinib resistance in HCC827GR cells.</P>

<P>Vertically aligned core-shell PbTiO3@TiO2 heterojunction nanotube arrays are fabricated on F:SnO2 (FTO) glass substrate via a unique three-step process: an electron beam vapor deposition of Ti thin film on FTO, anodic oxidation of the Ti film to TiO2 nanotubes, and finally formation of PbTiO3 perovskite layer at the inner wall of the TiO2 nanotubes. The PbTiO3@TiO2 nanotube array exhibits dramatically improved photoactivity relative to TiO2 nanotubes or PbTiO3/TiO2 composite powders in photoelectrochemical water splitting and photocatalytic isopropyl alcohol decomposition under visible light irradiation (>420 nm). In the core-shell heterojunction electrodes, PbTiO3 serves as a visible light responsive inorganic photosensitizer with its small band gap and forms a heterojunction with TiO2 for effective charge separation.</P>

An acrylic binder with excellent physical properties is prepared using copolymer of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and butyl acrylate monomer (BAM), 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA), 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (TMSPMA), and additives. The obtained acrylic resins are subjected to a redox initiator system (ROIS) for room temperature curing. The effects of the TMSPMA concentration and [acryl-copolymer]/[2-HEMA] ratio on backbone content are studied in terms of traffic marking paint. The mechanical and morphological properties are thoroughly evaluated using universal testing machine (UTM), UV spectrum, and SEM. With increasing TMSPMA content, the adhesive strength and transmittance of the cured resins increase up to a limiting value of TMSPMA content because of the optimizing crosslink network in backbone structure. The introduction of TMSPMA may be effectively attributed to strong adhesive and high transparency of an acrylic resin series. Consequently, acrylic resins with optimal TMSPMA content can be mostly utilized as a highperformance binder in the traffic marking paint field.

As increasing the international community’s awareness of greenhouse gas reduction, the demand for eco-friendly ship fuel has accelerated recently. The fundamental aim of this study is to develop a new type of fully electrified ferry for passengers and cars considering Korean domestic coastal environmental conditions. Several technical difficulties are encountered in applying a fully electric propulsion system based on removable battery systems into a ship due to limitations imposed by the batteries’ size and capacity. This paper reviews and analyzes marine environment regulations strengthened recently, technology trends related to fully electric propulsion vessels in each country, and Korean domestic coastal environments. We propose a new fully electrified car ferry design with a displacement of 400 t applied in Korea. It is powered by removable battery systems pre-charged in a safe inland charging station. The mobile battery system is developed to enable roll-on and roll-off using wheels. The characteristics of the ship motion are analyzed based on the weight and location of the battery systems. We expect our battery systems to be applicable to larger ships in the future.

The measurement of unique rainfall phenomenon and rain attenuation on 38 ㎓ terrestrial links at South Korea in 1998 is presented. It was one of the most severe rainfall years at the measured region due to increased El Nino signal. The rainfall rate exceeded at 0.01 % was 97.4 ㎜/h during a worst month and annual rate was 63.5 ㎜/h. Experimentally measured results have been compared with some models and found that the rain attenuation by system level was underestimated by the existing prediction models. As it was measured only three months, further study and measurement of rainfall and rain attenuation in this region are needed for stable millimeter-wave system operation at all times.

The microwave heating system of KSTAR consists of ECH and LHCD. ECH and LHCD offer the benefits ofa reliable operation at the start of plasma formation and a non-inductive current drive durable steady state operation, respectively. LHCD uses a C-band microwave system with a frequency of 5 GHz. A pulsed power modulator with a power of 3.6 MW, $4{\mu}S$, 200 pps is required to drive the high-powered magnetron. The development of a pulse modulator with 1:4 pulse transformers is the focus of the research in this study. The peak power handling capability is 3.6 MW (45 kV, 90 A at load side with a pulse width of $4{\mu}S$). This paper describes the system overview and test results of the pulsed modulator. In particular, a simulated waveform is compared with the tested waveform.
