The Camellia japonica species was used as a landscape tree. It is expected to be useful as a landscape because it has evergreen leaves and flowers. This study was intended to identify different root ability by the aspects of cutting collection, water sprouts and general stem growth cutting, number of leaves and soil medium. The results of this study are as follows, 1. Appearance rates of adventitious roots are different depending upon the location of collection. The appearance rates of cuttingc collected in eastern parte were3.3% western parts 25.%, southern parts 10.0% and in northern parts 8.4%. 2. Appearance rates of adventitous roots of cuttings collected on leaf bud cutting is 80.0%, and stem cutting is 43.3%. 3. Appearance rates of adventitious roots of cuttings collected on water sprout stems were 81,7% but in general cases 40.0%. 4. Appearance rates of adventitious roots of the water sprout stems on the one-year stem was twice faster than that of the two-year stem. 5. Adventitious rooting rate increased in proportion to the number of leaves. The maximum rooting rate happened in case of two leaves, whereas the minimum rate happened in case of ½ leaf. 6. The rooting rates were different depending upon soil medium. It was low in a case of single medium with vermiculite only but significantly high rooting rate as observed in a case of mixed medium with vermiculite and perlite or perlite and peatmoss.

This study was carried out to observe the effects of two soil mixtures, various nitrogen levels, and inoculation with mycorrhizal fungi on the growth of 1-year-old Pinus thunbergii seedlings in pots. The seedlings were treated with various combinations of above factors and growm one more tear in pots. 1. Number of short roots, mycorrhizal short roots, height growth, and total dry weight were higher umermiculite than in sandy loam. 2. 2-year-old P. thunbergii seedlings inoculated with Pisolitbrus tinctorius mycorrhizal fungi showed significant increase in primary lateral roots, short roots, and total dry weight than those of uninoculated seedlings. 3. The growth of 2-year-old P. thunbergii seedlings was affected by infection with mycorrhizal fungi and nitrogen fertilization of precious year.

This study was carried out for observation of growth, mycorrhizal formation and nutrient absorption of Pinus thunbergii seedlings treated with two soil mixtures and various nitrogen levels after inoculation with mycorrhizal fungus, Pisolithus tinctorius. 1. Seedlings grown on vermiculite applied with 50-150 ㎍/㎖ nitrogen levels were well developed with pinnate type and cluster-like mycorrhizae. But seedlings on sandy loam had monopodial type in addition to the above-mentioned two types. 2. Optimum fertilization Level for mycorrhizal formation is 50 or 150 ㎍/㎖ N that showed best mycorrhizal formation of 86. 4 (±3.14)% or 73.0 (±7.21)%, respectively, but increased nitrogen levels decreased formation of mycorrhizal short roots. Seedlings applied with 450㎍/㎖ nitrogen level decreased in net assimilation rate (NAR) and crop growth rate(CGR) during early growth of the seedlings, and they were increased since Aug, when nutrient application was stopped. 9. Inorganic nutrient absorption was increased more in seedlings grown on vermiculite and inoculated growth medium than those grown on sandy loam and noninoculated one, and it was gradually increased with increasing nitrogen increasing nitrogen level until 350㎍/㎖. But 450㎍/㎖ nitro gen level rather reduced absorption of nutrient.

This study was carried out to indentify the mycorrhizal development and growth stimulation of Pinus thunbergii seedlings grown on soil growth media which mixed mith carious amounts of pine bark. The results were follow ; 1. Seedlings inoculated with Pisolithus tinctorius were significantly increased in number of short roots and mycorrhizal short roots, height, maximum growth rate, and leaf area than those of no-inoculation. 2. Mycorrhizal formation according to bark contents eras highest by 25% bark treatment, and decreased in 50 and 75% bark contents. 3. Within the same treatment of bark content, seedlings inoculated with Pisolithus tinctorius showed name increased height and leaf, stem, and root dry weight than those of no-inoculated.
