      • Shewanella fodinae sp. nov., isolated from a coal mine and from a marine lagoon

        Sravan Kumar, R.,Sasi Jyothsna, T. S.,Sasikala, Ch.,Seong, C. N.,Lim, C. H.,Park, S. C.,Ramana, Ch. V. Microbiology Society 2010 International journal of systematic and evolutiona Vol.60 No.7

<P>Strains JC15T and JC19 were isolated from samples collected from different locations in India, including a coal mine and a marine lagoon. Both strains were Gram-stain-negative rods, motile by means of a single polar flagellum, catalase- and oxidase-positive, and hydrolysed casein, produced H2S and showed <I>β</I>-haemolysis. Strain JC15T grew optimally at pH 6 (range pH 5-8) while strain JC19 grew optimally at pH 7 (range pH 6-9) and both had a growth temperature optimum of 30-37 °C (range 22-40 °C). Both strains could grow chemo-organoheterotrophically and chemolithoautotrophically. Neither strain required NaCl for growth and both could tolerate up to 9 % (w/v) NaCl, with optimum growth at 5 % NaCl. Vitamin B12 was required as a growth factor by both strains. The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, C17 : 1<I>ω</I>8<I>c</I> and iso-C13 : 0 3-OH. The DNA G<I>+</I>C contents of strains JC15T and JC19 were 53.6 and 54.3 mol%, respectively. A phylogenetic tree based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strains JC15T and JC19 were most closely related to <I>Shewanella haliotis</I> DW01T (approximately 94 % sequence similarity) and to other members of the genus <I>Shewanella.</I> Genomic relatedness (DNA-DNA hybridization) between strains JC15T and JC19 is 88 %. On the basis of phenotypic and molecular genetic evidence, strain JC15T represents a novel species of the genus <I>Shewanella</I>, for which the name <I>Shewanella fodinae</I> sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is JC15T (=CCUG 57102T =NBRC 105216T =KCTC 22506T).</P>

An optimization technique for simultaneous reduction of PAPR and out-of-band power in NC-OFDM-based cognitive radio systems

Kaliki, Sravan Kumar,Golla, Shiva Prasad,Kurukundu, Rama Naidu Electronics and Telecommunications Research Instit 2021 ETRI Journal Vol.43 No.1

Noncontiguous orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (NC-OFDM)-based cognitive radio (CR) systems achieve highly efficient spectrum utilization by transmitting unlicensed users' data on subcarriers of licensed users' data when they are free. However, there are two disadvantages to the NC-OFDM system: out-of-band power (OBP) and a high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). OBP arises due to side lobes of an NC-OFDM signal in the frequency domain, and it interferes with the spectrum for unlicensed users. A high PAPR occurs due to the inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) block used in an NC-OFDM system, and it induces nonlinear effects in power amplifiers. In this study, we propose an algorithm called "Alternative Projections onto Convex and Non-Convex Sets" that reduces the OBP and PAPR simultaneously. The alternate projections are performed onto these sets to form an iteration, and it converges to the specified limits of in-band-power, peak amplitude, and OBP. Furthermore, simulations show that the bit error rate performance is not degraded while reducing OBP and PAPR.

Machine Learning Enabled Steady-State Security Predictor as Deployed for Distribution Feeder Reconfiguration

Sarkar Dipu,Gunturi Sravan Kumar 대한전기학회 2021 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.16 No.3

The distribution network is reconfi gured by modifying the topology arrangement of the network feeders. Because the voltage stability of the distribution networks can diff er within a range following network reconfi guration, the calculation of steady-state voltage stability plays a signifi cant role in real-time feeder reconfi guration. Examining the state of security and estimating it for the next operational confi guration is crucial for making real-time decisions. Online security evaluation needs minimal complexity and computing time. Standard methods of assessing the distribution network’s steady-state voltage stability can be insuffi cient for online and real-time environments due to their high complexity and long computing period. This study proposes a machine learning (ML) approach for classifying confi guration states and adopts the decision tree technique to interpret the online applications in the feeder reconfi guration. For the classifi cation, the single line equivalent L-index voltage stability and switching confi gurations of the feeders are employed as training information for the ML models. A modifi ed IEEE 14-bus and 30-bus test systems verifi es the feasibility of the suggested solution. Once trained, the proposed system provides a quick and accurate classifi cation for unknown confi gurations of the specifi c security state in 0.3 seconds.

Carrot Juice Administration Decreases Liver Stearoyl-CoA Desaturase 1 and Improves Docosahexaenoic Acid Levels, but Not Steatosis in High Fructose Diet-Fed Weanling Wistar Rats

        Malleswarapu Mahesh,Munugala Bharathi,Mooli Raja Gopal Reddy,Manchiryala Sravan Kumar,Uday Kumar Putcha,Ayyalasomayajula Vajreswari,Shanmugam M. Jeyakumar 한국식품영양과학회 2016 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.21 No.3

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most prevalent liver diseases associated with an altered lifestyle, besides genetic factors. The control and management of NAFLD mostly depend on lifestyle modifications, due to the lack of a specific therapeutic approach. In this context, we assessed the effect of carrot juice on the development of high fructose-induced hepatic steatosis. For this purpose, male weanling Wistar rats were divided into 4 groups, fed either a control (Con) or high fructose (HFr) diet of AIN93G composition, with or without carrot juice (CJ) for 8 weeks. At the end of the experimental period, plasma biochemical markers, such as triglycerides, alanine aminotransferase, and β-hydroxy butyrate levels were comparable among the 4 groups. Although, the liver injury marker, aspartate aminotransferase, levels in plasma showed a reduction, hepatic triglycerides levels were not significantly reduced by carrot juice ingestion in the HFr diet-fed rats (HFr-CJ). On the other hand, the key triglyceride synthesis pathway enzyme, hepatic stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1), expression at mRNA level was augmented by carrot juice ingestion, while their protein levels showed a significant reduction, which corroborated with decreased monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), particularly palmitoleic (C16:1) and oleic (C18:1) acids. Notably, it also improved the long chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; C22:6) content of the liver in HFr-CJ. In conclusion, carrot juice ingestion decreased the SCD1-mediated production of MUFA and improved DHA levels in liver, under high fructose diet-fed conditions. However, these changes did not significantly lower the hepatic triglyceride levels.

A Method of Metallisation of Carbon Fibre-Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) Sandwich Antenna Reflector Dish for High-Frequency Applications

        Pankaj Agarwal,Vinu Viswanath,Ani K. John,Mathew Sebastian,Harikrishna S,Jigar Pandya,Sagi Sravan Kumar 한국항공우주학회 2023 International Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sc Vol.24 No.2

CFRP sandwich structures have proved themselves as a good candidate for satellite antenna reflectors due to high bending stiffness with lower mass. Bare CFRP acts as a reflector for frequencies up to Ku-band beyond which reflective properties are insufficient. Studies are carried out by researchers to improve the reflectivity of CFRP sandwich structures and one of the widely adopted methods is metallisation of the reflective surface of CFRP. Glass transition temperature (Tg) of CFRP is much below the melting point of metals, which makes the process of metalising more challenging. This is overcome by a few approaches such as chemical vapour deposition, sputtering, and cold spray. In the present study, a unique concept of metalising the CFRP sandwich dish by co-curing it with copper-cladded polyimide film is presented. To facilitate the bond between CFRP and copper-cladded polyimide film, the resin available in CFRP prepreg itself is used during the co-curing process. The procedure was successfully adopted in a high-throughput satellite payload of ISRO missions.
