Design and Measurement of Low-Power and Low-Area EEPROM for UHF RFID Tag Chips

In this paper, a low-power and small-area asynchronous EEPROM of 1 kilo bits for passive UHF RFID tag chips is designed with 0.18 ㎛ flash EEPROM cells. As small-area solutions, command and address buffers are removed since EEPROM is newly designed asynchronously and data output buffer is also removed by using separate I/O. As a low-power solution, we can reduce write current by proposing VPPL select circuit which selects the voltage needed using an arbitrary node voltage either at program or at write mode. To supply stably high voltages VPP and VPPL used in the cell array from low voltage VDD, Dickson charge pump is designed with Schottky diodes instead of PN junction diodes. On that account, we can decrease the number of stages of the charge pump and reduce its total area. A test chip for asynchronous EEPROM of 1 kilo bits is fabricated using 0.18 ㎛ EEPROM process, and its layout area is 554.8×306.9 ㎛², around 11% smaller than its synchronous counterpart. Its power dissipation is 8.0 ㎼, 25.5 ㎼, and 28.4 ㎼ in the mode of read, erase, and program, respectively. And its minimum operating voltage is 1.4 volts.

Process safety incidents and loss events can be prevented if we identify and adequately take measures on process safety incident precursors in a timely manner. If we look into and take action against the process safety hazard factors causing the incident in the refinery and petrochemical plant, major process safety incidents can be prevented through eliminating or decreasing hazardous factors. We conducted a survey for the major process safety incident precursor to look specifically into the potential process safety hazardous factors of refineries and petrochemical plants in the Yeosu chemical complex. A self-assessment checklist, which was published by Center for Chemical Process Safety “Recognizing catastrophic incident warning signs in the process industry” on major incidents warning sign, was used for the survey. Through this survey, the major process safety incident leading indicators in the process industry were found by process safety management elements, and each site and/or facility can use these leading indicators for activities for process safety incident prevention. In addition, we proposed action items required to eliminate the root cause of those process safety incident leading indicators.

<P>Methanol extract of Zizania latifolia was partitioned with EtOAc, n-BuOH, and H2O. From the EtOAc layers, a new flavonolignan along with a known flavone and three known flavonolignans, tricin (1), salcolin A (2), salcolin B (3), and salcolin C (4), were isolated through repeated silica gel and ODS column chromatography. The chemical structure of the new flavonolignan was determined to be tricin-4'-O-[erythro-β-guaiacyl-(7-O-methyl)-glyceryl] ether and was named salcolin D (5) based on physicochemical and spectroscopic data, including FT-NMR and ESI-MS. All compounds were isolated for the first time from this plant. Compounds 2-5, tricin derivatives, all exhibited higher anti-inflammatory and anti-allergy activities than tricin. In particular, salcolin D (5) was shown to have the strongest inhibitory activity against LPS-induced NO production in RAW 264.7 cells as well as β-hexosaminidase release in IgE-sensitized RBL-2H3 cells. These results suggest that the presence of tricin derivatives conveys allergy and inflammation treatment ability to Z. latifolia.</P>

All parts of Thanakha (Hesperethusa crenulata R.) have been used as traditional skin care herbal material in Myanmar. In this study, coumarins from H. crenulata R. bark were isolated through solvent extraction, systematic solvent fractionation, and repeated column chromatography. Spectroscopic analyses using ESI–MS, 1D NMR (1H and 13C), 2D NMR (gHSQC and gHMBC), specific rotation, circular dichroism, and IR spectrometry revealed three coumarins 2R-7-hydroxy-8-(2,3-dihydroxy-3-methylbutyl)-coumarin (compound 1), peucedanol (compound 2), and methylpeucedanol (compound 3), which were first isolated from Thanakha tree. Antioxidant capacities of three coumarins decreased as follows: compound 2 > compound 3 > compound 1. Treatments of lipopolysaccharide-induced THP-1 human monocytic cells with compounds 2 and 3 at 378.8 μM and 359.7 μM inhibited tumor necrosis factor-α production by approximately 32.7% and 13.3%, respectively, compared with the negative control. In summary, these results suggest that Thanakha bark extracts can be used as a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory source for cosmetic ingredients.

A single pixel photon counting type image sensor which is applicable for medical diagnosis with digitally obtained image and industrial purpose has been designed using 0.18㎛ triple well CMOS process. The designed single pixel for readout chip is able to be operated by single supply voltage to simplify digital X-ray image sensor module and a preamplifier using folded cascade CMOS OP amp has been designed to enlarge signal voltage(Δ Vs), the output voltage of preamplifier. Also, a threshold voltage generator circuit which generates threshold voltage in the readout chip has been newly proposed against the conventional external threshold voltage supply. This makes proper threshold voltage supply despite of the pixel common voltage variation.

The silkworm (Bombyx mori L.) droppings were extracted with 80% aqueous MeOH, and the concentrated extract was partitioned in succession with EtOAc, n-BuOH, and H_2O. From the EtOAc fraction, five megastigmane sesquiterpenes were isolated through repeated silica gel and ODS column chromatography. According to the results of spectroscopic data, such as NMR, MS, and IR, the chemical structures of the isolated compounds were determined as (3S,5R,8R)-3,5-dihydroxymegastigma-6,7-dien-9-one (1), (S)-dehydrovomifoliol (2), (6R,7E,9R)-9-hydroxy-4,7-megastigmadien-3-one (3), (3S,5R,6S,7E)-3,5,6-trihydroxy-7-megastigmen-9-one (4), (6R,9R)-9-hydroxy-4-megastigmen-3-one (5). Compounds 2 through 5 were isolated for the first time from silkworm droppings. GC/MS analysis indicated silkworm powder contained compound 3, and mulberry leaves contained compound 4. Compounds 1 and 5 increased the expression of heme oxygenase-1 and SIRT1 in HepG2 and HEK239 cells, respectively. Heme oxygenase-1 is considered to be an antioxidant enzyme that catabolizes heme to carbon monoxide, free iron and biliverdin, while SIRT1 is the mammalian homologue of the yeast silent information regulator (Sir)-2, which are involved in the suppression of inflammatory mediators or factors that may be used to improve atopy-related symptoms.

본 논문에서는 $0.18{\mu}m$의 EEPROM cell을 사용하여 수동형 UHF RFID 태그 칩에 사용되는 저전력, 저면적의 1Kbits 비동기식 EEPROM IP를 설계하였다. 저면적 회로 설계 기술로는 $0.18{\mu}m$ EEPROM 공정을 이용하여 비동기식 EEPROM IP를 설계하므로 command buffer와 address buffer를 제거하였고 separate I/O 방식을 사용하므로 tri-state 데이터 출력 버퍼(data output buffer)를 제거하였다. 그리고 저전압(low voltage)의 VDD에서 EEPROM cell이 필요로 하는 고전압(high voltage)인 VPP와 VPPL 전압을 안정적으로 공급하기 위해 기존의 PN 접합 다이오드 대신 Schottky 다이오드를 사용한 Dickson 전하펌프를 설계하므로 전하펌프의 펌핑단(pumping stage)의 수를 줄여 전하펌프가 차지하는 면적을 줄였다. 저전력 회로 설계 기술로 Dickson 전하 펌프(charge pump)를 이용하여 VPP generator를 만들고 Dickson 전하펌프의 임의의 노드 전압을 이용하여 프로그램과 지우기 모드에서 각각 필요로 하는 VPPL 전압을 선택하도록 하게 해주는 VPPL 전원 스위칭 회로를 제안하여 쓰기전류(write current)를 줄이므로 저전력 EEPROM IP를 구현하였다. $0.18{\mu}m$ 공정을 이용하여 설계된 비동기식 EEPROM용 테스트 칩은 제작 중에 있으며, 비동기식 1Kbits EEPROM의 레이아웃 면적은 $554.8{\times}306.9{\mu}m2$로 동기식 1Kbits EEPROM에 비해 레이아웃면적을 11% 정도 줄였다.
