      • 저면 반사파를 이용한 피로 균열의 정량적 평가에 관한 연구

        Fatigue cracks due to thermal stratification or corrosion in pipelines of nuclear power plants can cause serious problems on reactor cooling system. Therefore, these cracks must be detected before the crack growth to ensure the reliable operation. Ultrasonic techniques have been employed for detecting and sizing these fatigue cracks propagated from the back wall of pipelines. But, it is very difficult to sizing fatigue cracks because of low amplitude of the diffracted tip signal, high noise signal and ultrasound transmission through the closed crack surface. In this study, the signal reflected from the back wall is adopted instead of weak tip signals. In addition, the rate of decrease in amplitude of reflected signals due to reflection at the crack surface and diffraction at the crack tip is used to size fatigue cracks.

        We have experienced a case of presacral ganglioneuroma. So, we report a peripheral ganglioneuroma of sacral origin. The patient is 34-year-old man with intermittent low back pain and right sciatica. Myelographic computed tomography revealed extradural lobulated low attenuated tumor lesion within spinal canal at the level of L5 and S1. Tumor indented the thecal sac to the left side, and extended into the pelvic cavity through the intervertebral foramen between S1 and S2. The mass was surgically excised and turned out to be ganglioneuroma pathologically.

        한우, 칡소 및 제주 흑우 Calpain-Calpastatin 유전자 다양성

        The aim of study was to investigate genetic diversity for the calpain/calpastatin gene in three Hanwoo breeds [(Brown (n=62), Brindle (n=81) and Jeju Black (n=30)]. Random samples from three breeds of Hanwoo were selected and genotyped for the 7 SNPs of calpain/calpastatin using TaqMan method. Allele frequencies were investigated for CAPN1/CAST gene. Allele frequency of CAST2 SNP was 0.75, 0.59 and 0.22 for Brown, Brindle and Jeju black, respectively. The CAST3 revealed allele frequency of 0.59 and 0.57 in Brown and Jeju Black, while it showed very low allele frequency (0.07) in Brindle. In particular, favorable allele (G allele) for the CAPN1-2 SNP which was shown a strong association with tenderness in Taurine and Indicine cattle revealed 16% and 17% higher allele frequency in Brown Hanwoo (0.82) comparing Brindle (0.66) and Jeju Black Hanwoo (0.65). AMOVA demonstrated that among population variance occupied only 10% of total variance and among individual variance was 0%, while within individual variance was 90% of total variance. This result showed that population effect contributed very small portion of genetic to these three Hanwoo breeds, while within individual variance contributed large portion of genetic diversity within these Hanwoo breeds. In conclusion, three Hanwoo breeds (Brown, Brindle and Jeju black) showed a genetically homogeneous based on the 7 SNPs of CAPN1/CAST gene and it came from same ancestor to form modern Hanwoo breed.

      • 우리나라 여성의 삶의 질에 관한 연구

        People are getting more interested in their “quality of life” as they achieved certain level of economic development. Governments pay great attention on well-being and happiness of people as well and try to find the best way to improve citizens' quality of life. However, South Korea is still on 27th out of 39 OECD and G20 countries in quality of life index, which means that there are great needs to improve Koreans' quality of life. Moreover, it is expected that Korean women's quality of life might be worse than this in its patriarchal environments. In fact, there are few research regarding Korean women's quality of life and it is unknown what personal and social factors affect Korean women's quality of life and how we can improve it. This research attempts to find out factors related to Korean women's quality of life through the surveys of 536 Korean women. The results show that quality of life is most influenced by factors such as self-fulfillment, socio-economic independence, satisfaction with the residence, and satisfaction with cultural activities. In addition, happiness of Korean womem is greatly affected by various factors such as mental health, interpersonal relationship, self-respect, self-fulfillment, socio-economic independence, satisfaction with the residence, and satisfaction with cultural activities. Among various factors related to quality of life and happiness of Korean women, scores of self-respect, self-fulfillment, and interpersonal relationship are high, while scores regarding income are relatively low.       • 자궁경부 상피암에서 Human Papillomavirus(HPV) 감염에 관한 연구

        The uterine cervical carcinoma is the most common malignant tumor among Korean women. The pathogenic mechanisms have not been elucidated so far. Several lines of evidence suggest that sexually transmittable agents are responsible for the pathogenesis of uterine cervical carcinoma. Among them, human papillomavirus(HPV) was considered to be the most possible oncogenic agent. The HPV types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33 and 35 are the most important types involved in cervical lesion among 70 HPV types so far known. The uterine cervical carcinomas containing HPV-18 gene in the nuclei are more aggressive than those comtaining other types of HPV genes. It would be helpful to type the HPV in the uterine cervical carcinoma for the prediction of prognosis. In this study, the types of HPV were determned in the uterine cervical carcinoma, comprising 30 cases of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia(CIN), 10 cases of microinvasive carcinoma and 15 cases of invasive carcinoma, by polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLP). The results were as follows: 1. HPV DNA was detected in 19 cases(63.3%) of 30 if CIN. The types 16, 18, 33 and other high risk HPVs were 33.3%, 6.7% and 10% respectively. 2. In CIN Ⅱ and CIN Ⅲ, HPV-16, 18 were 54.4%, 28.6% and 9.1%, 21.4% respectively. 3. In microinvasive carcinomas, HPV-16 and 18 were 50% and 20% respectively. 4. In invasive carcinomas, HPV-16 and 18 were 26.7% and 33.3% respectively. Above results suggest that HPV infections have positive relationship with uterine cervical carcinoma. And as the HPV-18 type DNA has some role for the progression of the carcinoma, it would be feasible to type HPV in uterine cervical carcinoma for the prediction of the prognosis.

      • FIB 신뢰성 평가를 위한 나노패턴의 설계 및 측정

        FIB (Focused ion beam) system is one of the most important equipments for the nano-scale machining. Various researches have been performed, since it can etch the material and deposit 3-D structure with high-aspect-ratio in the nanometer scale. In spite of those researches, the definite method for the reliability of FIB system has not been reported. In this paper, we proposed the reliability assessment method through nano-pattern fabrication. In the fabricated nano-pattern, the characteristics of FIB system are included. Using this effect, we tried to assess the FIB reliability. First, we suggested reliability assessment items and nano-patterns. And, to know the suitableness of the proposed method, we fabricated several nano-patterns using Nova200(FEI Company) and SMI2050(SEIKO) which are FIB apparatuses. The fabricated nano-patterns are measured with SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) and compared with designed dimensions. And the compared results showed that the proposed method is suitable for the assessment of FIB system reliability.

      • Rat의 복강내에 투여한 5-fluorouracil-polyglycolic acid 제형이 장기에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

        For more effective intraperitoneal chemotherapy, the authers made 5-fluorouracil-polyglycolic acid composite disks(FU-PGA disks) with 5-fluorouracil and polyglycolic acid, a biodegradable polymer. We inserted the FU-PGA disk into the peritoneal cavites of Sprague-Dawley male rats, the control and three experimental groups; one FU-PGA disk insert group(300mg/kg), two FU-PGA disk insert group(600mg/kg), and three FU-PGA disk insert group(900mg/kg). The control group received a similar number of PGA disk inserts. A pharmacokinetic study was performed to measure the 5-fluorouracil concentration in the peritoneal fluid, blood, and tissues(liver, kidney and heart) at 24 hours, 72hours and 168 hours after insertion of the FU-PGA disk. Light and electron microscopic studies were done. The results were as follows: 1) The number of white blood cells and platelets decreased after FU-PGA insertion. The degree was proportional to the duration and amounts inserted. The change in the number of red blood cells varied slightly. 2) Light microscopically, slight changes were noted at 168 hours in the 3 disk insert group (900mg/kg). Mild fatty change and hepatocyte degeneration around the central veins of the liver were noted, with vacuolar degeneration in the proximal convoluted tubules of the kidney. 3) Electron microscopically,the liver showed focal increases of lipid droplets in the hepatocytes, and irregular nuclear membrane with focal nucleolar segregation of the fibrillar and granular elements. Also the double membranous structure of the hepatocytes and Kupffer cells was widened with bleb formation. The kidney showed wide separation of the nuclear double membrane in the proximal convoluted tubular cells and mesangial cells, with vacuolation and myelin figure formation in the mitochondria of the proximal convoluted tubular cells, at 72 hours and 168 hours in the 2 to 3 FU-PGA insert groups. The heart showed focal loss of cristae,vacuolation and myelin figure formation in the mitochondria of the 2 to 3 FU-PGA insert groups. In conclusion, despite the large amont of FU-PGA inserted, the histopathological changes in the liver, kidney and heart were slight, and consonant with the very low amount of 5-fluorouracil concentrations detected in the liver, kidney and heart. The above results suggest that the FU-PGA composite can serve as a new device for releasing drugs in a controlled manner and easily targeted to intraperitoneal organs. This device can improve the efficacy of intraperitoneal chemotherapy for gastric cancer.
