Aims: Few prognostic models are available for patients with recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) following curative resection. A new postoperative hepatoma arterial-embolization prognostic (HAP) score optimized for patients treated with trans-arterial chemoembolization (TACE) due to recurrent HCC after curative resection was developed and validated. Methods: A total of 448 (training cohort) and 350 (validation cohort) patients with recurrent HCC after curative resection treated with TACE between 2003 and 2016 were enrolled. Cox regression and area under the curve (AUC) analysis were used to identify risk factors and to calculate the predictive performance of risk scores, respectively. Results: The median age of the study population (378 men, 70 women) was 59.4 years. The median time from resection to recurrence was 17.7 (interquartile range, 7.3-37.1) months. Alpha-fetoprotein>400ng/mL (hazard ratio [HR]=2.358), serum albumin≤3.5g/dL (HR=1.979), tumor number≥2 (HR=1.655), segmental portal vein invasion (HR=2.541), and time from resection to recurrence≤2 years (HR=1.905) independently predicted survival (all P<0.05). The postoperative HAP (pHAP) model established based on the rounded HR of each variable showed an AUC to predict survival at 3-years of 0.671 significantly higher than those of other HAP-based models including HAP, modified HAP, and modified HAP-II scores (0.578-0.624) (all P<0.05). The accuracy of pHAP was maintained in the validation cohort (n=350; AUC=0.638 at 3-years). Conclusions: A new pHAP score optimized for patients treated with TACE due to recurrent HCC after curative resection showed acceptable accuracy and was externally validated. Further studies should investigate Methods: to select treatment options other than TACE for high-risk patients according to pHAP scores.
Imipramine enhances neuroprotective effect of PEP-1-Catalase against ischemic neuronal damage

The protein transduction domains have been reported to have potential to deliver the exogenous molecules, including proteins, to living cells. However, poor transduction of proteins limits therapeutic application. In this study, we examined whether imipramine could stimulate the transduction efficiency of PEP-1 fused proteins into astrocytes. PEP-1-catalase (PEP-1- CAT) was transduced into astrocytes in a time- and dose-dependent manner, reducing cellular toxicity induced by H2O2. Additionally, the group of PEP-1-CAT + imipramine showed enhancement of transduction efficiency and therefore increased cellular viability than that of PEP-1-CAT alone. In the gerbil ischemia models, PEP-1-CAT displayed significant neuroprotection in the CA1 region of the hippocampus. Interestingly, PEP-1-CAT + imipramine prevented neuronal cell death and lipid peroxidation more markedly than PEP-1-CAT alone. Therefore, our results suggest that imipramine can be used as a drug to enhance the transduction of PEP-1 fusion proteins to cells or animals and their efficacies against various disorders. 공장폐수가 유입하는 금호강 하류의 하천부지에서 재배된 깻잎을 채취하여 일반영양성분 및 중금속 함량 등을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 깻잎속에는 수분 86.5%, 단백질 3.0%, 지질 0.6%, 당질 6.0%, 섬유질 2.6%, 회분 1.8%이고 Ca이 77mg%, P이 195mg%, Fe이 35mg%였다. 2. Cd함량은 0.05~0.46ppm로 평균 0.17ppm이였으며 Pb은 평균 0.66ppm이였다. This experiment was carried out to investigate the pollution state of heavy metal in vegetables. Perilla leave are used as the materials grown in the lower kyumho river into which polluted water from factories. The results were summarized as follow: Perilla leave contained 86.5% of water, 3% of protein, 0.6% of lipid, 6.0% of carbohydrate, 2.6% of fiber and 1.8% of ash. Minerals are composed of Ca 77mg%, P 195mg%, Fe 35mg%. The content of Cd was 0.05~0.46ppm, it's average was 0.17 ppm. The content of Pb was 0.23~0.90ppm, it's average was 0.66ppm.
Mediterraneibacter butyricigenes sp. nov., a butyrate-producing bacterium isolated from human faeces

A Gram-stain-positive, obligately anaerobic, non-motile, nonspore- forming, and rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated KGMB01110T, was isolated from a faecal sample of a healthy male in South Korea. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene showed that strain KGMB01110T belonged to Clostridium cluster XIVa and was most closely related to Mediterraneibacter glycyrrhizinilyticus KCTC 5760T (95.9% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity). The DNA G + C content of strain KGMB01110T based on its whole genome sequence was 44.1 mol%. The major cellular fatty acids (> 10%) of the isolate were C14:0 and C16:0. The strain KGMB01110T was positive for arginine dihydrolase, β-galactosidase-6-phosphatase, and alkaline phosphatase. The strain KGMB01110T also produced acid from D-glucose and D-rhamnose, and hydrolyzed gelatin and aesculin. Furthermore, HPLC analysis and UV-tests of culture supernatant revealed that the strain KGMB01110T produced butyrate as the major end product of glucose fermentation. Based on the phylogenetic and phenotypic characteristics, strain KGMB01110T represent a novel species of the genus Mediterraneibacter in the family Lachnospiraceae. The type strain is KGMB01110T (= KCTC 15684T = CCUG 72830T).
Preparation of Benzoyloxy Benzophenone Derivatives and Their Inhibitory Effects of ICAM-1 Expression

Benzoyloxy benzophenone derivatives were prepared in 3 steps including DCC coupling, Fries rearrangement and esterification from benzoic acids in 24-89% total yields. Among the prepared 12 benzophenone analogues 1a-1l, the compound 1b having three chloro groups at the para position showed maximum inhibitory effects of ICAM-1 expression but, 1a which have no substituents at all showed no inhibitory activity. This study provides the evidences that benzoyloxy benzophenone derivative, 1b may exert its anti-inflammatory activity by suppressing IFN-${\gamma}$-induced ICAM-1 expression.
HspA and HtpG Enhance Thermotolerance in the Cyanobacterium, Microcystis aeruginosa NIES-298

Heat shock proteins (Hsps) play a key role in the cellular defense response to diverse environmental stresses. Here, the role of Hsp genes in the acquisition of thermotolerance in the cyanobacterium Microcystis aeruginosa NIES-298 was investigated. Twelve Hsp-related genes were examined to observe their modulated expression patterns at different temperatures (10, 15, 25, and 35oC) over different exposure periods. HspA and HtpG transcripts showed an up-regulation of expression at low temperatures (10 and 15oC) and high temperature (35oC), compared with the control (25oC). To examine their effects upon thermotolerance, we purified recombinant HspA and HtpG proteins. During a thermotolerance study at 54oC, the HspA-transformed bacteria showed increased thermotolerance compared with the control. HtpG also played a role in the defense response to acute heat stress within 30 min. These findings provide a better understanding of cellular protection mechanisms against heat stress in cyanobacteria.
