Purpose: This study was peformed to investigate whether the free to total PSA ratio(F/T PSA ratio) offers a better discriminant for the detection of patient with prostatic cancer(CaP) and those with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) than serum total PSA alone. Materials and Methods: From September 1996 to February 1999, free and total PSA levels were measured on frozen sera samples of 154 men with BPH and 46 with CaP using immunoradiometric assay. Results: In all subjects, the mean total PSA was significantly higher in CaP group(72.57±66.58ng/ml) than BPH group(3.12±4.10ng/ml). The mean PSAD was significantly higher in CaP group(1.64± 1.86) than BPH group(0.08±0.01). The mean F/T PSA ratio was significantly lower in CaP group(0.19± 0.07) than BPH group(0.30±0.13). Among 41 subjects whose total PSA were between 4-20ng/ml, the mean PSAD was significantly higher in CaP group(0.37±7.16) than BPH group(0.17± 0.07), but the mean F/T PSA ratio was not significantly different between CaP(0.19± 0.10) and BPH group(0.25±7.13). By comparing the sensitivity and specificity of total PSA alone, PSAD and F/T PSA ratio on receiver operating characterislic (ROC) Cutie in all subiects and subiects with total PSA between 4-20ng/ml, F/T PSA ratio had no superiority than total PSA alone and PSAD for discrimination between CaP and BPH. Conclusions: We suggest that the F/T PSA ratio is not superior to total PSA alone and FSAD in the detection of prostatic cancer, and further evaluation of the usefulness of F/T PSA ratio should be required.
Effects of layer-by-layer assembled PEI/MWCNT surfaces on enhanced pool boiling critical heat flux

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Layer-by-layer (LbL) assembly is a versatile deposition technique for the fabrication of nanostructured thin films on a substrate. In this study, multilayers of poly(ethylenimine) (PEI) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were deposited onto a stainless steel surface. Since a substrate experiences notable changes in surface characteristics and structures during the LbL deposition process, resulting surface characteristics were thoroughly investigated. It was found that randomly oriented porous structures were developed by the fibrous wires of MWCNTs. As a result, surface roughness increased by 20–30%, and surface wettability increased by 70% for all samples. Both roughness and wettability were improved as the bilayer number increased. After the surface modification process, pool boiling heat transfer experiments were conducted to investigate the thermal margin achievable with the LbL deposition. Critical heat flux (CHF) enhancement was obtained as the number of bilayers increased, with the maximum enhancement evaluated at 94%. The enhancement was mainly attributed to the improved surface characteristics due to the formation of porous structures in the PEI/MWCNT layer. The comparison works with newly proposed CHF correlations supported the wicking effect on the CHF enhancements for the LbL-assembled test samples. Image processing results indicated a desirable structure for improved capillary action, which could affect further wetting to dry spots. High-speed bubble departure images were obtained from which a few msec reduction in rewetting intervals was observed for all LbL-assembled heaters.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> After LbL process, roughness and wettability were improved as the bilayers increased. </LI> <LI> LbL deposition of PEI/MWCNTs exhibited hydrophilic surfaces. </LI> <LI> Enhanced pool boiling CHF was observed with PEI/MWCNT-layered heaters. </LI> <LI> CHF enhancement was attributed to the improved wettability and porous structures. </LI> <LI> High-speed images of bubble departures demonstrated a reduced rewetting interval. </LI> </UL> </P>

To formulate strategies for small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises (SMEs) in response to the enforcement of the product liability (PL) law, factors that influence the enforcement of the PL law were identified through a political, economic, social, and technological (PEST) analysis. Furthermore, the relative importance was proposed for each area through a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats analytic hierarchy process (SWOT-AHP) analysis of the identified factors. In order to identify the relative importance of each area, a pairwise analysis was conducted through a questionnaire survey targeting experts in businesses related to PL. The results suggest the greater importance of opportunities and strengths than threats and weaknesses, indicating that the enforcement of the PL law would provide SMEs more opportunities than burdens. Through these results the S/O, S/T, W/O, W/T strategies for SMEs, which can be preferentially implemented, were proposed.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the GNRB® arthrometer (Genourb) is a viable alternative to the TelosTM device (GmbH) in terms of diagnosing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears. Methods: We carried out a prospective cohort study from January 2013 to March 2015 on 85 patients whose symptoms necessitated arthroscopic procedures of the knee. We measured preoperative anterior knee laxity in both the affected and the unaffected knees of the patients through the TelosTM device and the GNRB® arthrometer. We defined the standard reference ACL as that observed arthroscopically for subsequent evaluations of diagnostic performance of the TelosTM device and the GNRB® arthrometer. Results: We arthroscopically classified the patients into the following categories of ACL integrity: 14 patients (16.5%) were categorized into the normal ACL group; 6 patients (7.1%), into the healed to the roof of the notch group; 7 patients (8.2%), into the preserved posterolateral bundle group; 6 patients (7.1%), into the healed-to-PCL group; and 52 patients (61.2%), into the complete tear group. In the complete tear group, the anterior tibial translations were significantly larger than those of the normal ACL group, of the partial tear groups, and of the healed-to-PCL group, independently of the two measuring techniques. We found that the TelosTM device showed a sensitivity of 96.6% and a specificity of 92.9% at a cutoff value of 3.2 mm. The values of the GNRB® arthrometer showed a sensitivity of 100% and a specificity of 92.9%. Thus, we found that the TelosTM device and the GNRB® arthrometer showed similar diagnostic performance. Conclusion: We found that not only is the GNRB® arthrometer clinically useful having no risk of radiation exposure, it can also be performed repeatedly during diagnostic arthroscopy and during passage observations.

The aim of this study is to derive from aesthetic approach to "the symbol of Taekwondo uniform" a sufficient understanding of their symbolic representation and interpretive frameworks from the viewpoints of the artist and the appreciator. It is safe to say that this study is a journey of beauty revealing the essence of beauty in the symbol of the uniform of Taekwondo that has gone through historical and social vortexes. The symbol of Taekwondo uniform provide leeway to the artist and the appreciator. That is, their interpretation of the symbol of Taekwondo uniform need not be bound by a specific framework. And the hidden meanings of the symbols are to be revealed from the viewpoints of the actor and the appreciator, respectively. To sum up, the actor can experience the beauty of Taekwondo as it is as one who experienced Taekwondo, and the subject and the object become one in this experience. The essence of the internal world of Taekwondo is approached, and is given values. And the appreciator may have indirect and slightly different interpretation from that of the actor with regard to the symbol of Taekwondo uniform, as one who has the experience of appreciation. That is, the autonomy of aesthetic judgment is preserved because the symbols cannot be enjoyed without interest and aesthetic contemplation. In conclusion, this study will have achieved its goal if its theme can have implications for the sharpening and polishing of the symbols in terms of aesthetics. Of course, an aesthetic understanding of Taekwondo uniform at large has not been derived, and thus the interpretation of its overall meaning is left as a new future task.
