The properties of alumina sol for single layer Anti-Reflective film by dip-coating were investigated. Transparent alumina sol could be obtained by heating the sol within 2 hours after hydrolysis at room temperature. The particle size of sols decreased with increasing the amount of nitric acid, while the specific surface area and the total pore volume of heat treated gels increased, up to the ratio of 0.1 mol nitric acid per 1 mol alkoxide. Excess addition of nitric acid above 0.1 mol resulted in decrement of the specific surface area and the total pore volume, and broadness of the pore size distribution. The average pore diameter and the total pore volume of heat-treated gel at 400℃ with composition of 1 alkoxide·100 water·0.1 nitric acid in ratio were ?? and 0.315 cc/g, respectively.

For the past few decades the lumbar incision described by Mayo in 1912, has been generally accepted as a common method for renal surgery. However, one often experiences difficulties and disadvantages in performing complicated renal surgery such as partial nephrectomy or nephrotomy with this ordinary lumbar incision. A more suitable approach has eagerly been sought, by which the patient is placed in a relatively comfortable position and the pedicle can be exposed for safer and easier manipulation under direct vision. In this study, the author developed a new method in which the patient is placed in a semilateral position and an extraperitoneal abdomino-lumbar(antero-lateral) approach to the kidney with subcostal transverse incision is performed. This method was applied in 64 patients during the past 3 years and excellent results were obtained in all cases. In this method the patient is placed semilaterally giving about 45 degree tilt using one sand bag on each side as shown in fig.(Ⅰ. Ⅱ. Ⅲ.) This tilting can be adjusted to a convenient degree during the operation. Another advantage of this position is that it facilitates easier respiration for the patient. A transverse skin incision is then made subcostally starting about 5㎝ away from the costovertebral angle running forward along 1㎝ below the 12th & 11th rib in a arcuate line and is extended to the paramedian line of the abdomen. This is deepened until the kidney fossa is reached. Attention should be paid not to injure the peritoneum. The advantages of this incision are an easy exposure of the kidney pedicle, better visualization of the entire kidney and the possibility of performing rather complicated procedures more easily. Therefore, it can be concluded that this method is a more convenient and safe approach to the kidney for renal surgery.

Calmodulin, a Ca^2+-binding protein, has no enzyme activity. It combines with Ca^2+ and makes variable proteins to an active form. Calmodulin 2 is a ubiquitous protein in plants. To investigate the defense mechanism against various stresses, a clone encoding a calmodulin 2 protein was isolated from a cDNA library prepared from taproot mRNAs of Codonopsis lanceolata. The cDNA, designated CICAM2, is 719 nucleotides long and has an open reading frame of 450 bp with a deduced amino acid sequence of 149 residues. The deduced amino acid sequence of CICAM2 showed a high similarity with calmodulins of P. x hybrida (P27163) 97%, N. tabacum (BAB61908) 97%, S. tuberosum (AAA74405) 96%, Z. mays (CAA74307) 92%, C. richardii (AF510075) 93%, M. truncatula (AAM81203) 91%, and G. max (P62163) 91%. The transcriptional expression of the CICAM2 gene, was gradually increased by the CaCl₂ treatment. Whereas its expression And it was gradually decreased in the cold stress treatment.ent.

Holoprosencephaly is a rare malformation complex or development defect including different degrees of incomplete cleavages of the embryonic prosencephalon and varying degrees of the midface defects, resulting from the defect of prechordal mesoderm, migrating forward into the area anterior to the notochord during the third week of fetal development. Early antenatal diagnosis of holoprosencephaly is important to find out its severity, to predict its prognosis, and to determine proper management according to its prognosis and severity. The possibility of early antenatal diagnosis of holoprosencephaly by ultrasound has been suggested, but occasionally missed and rarely confirmed. We present one case of lobar holoprosencephaly, diagnosed postnatally and one case of alobar holoprosencephaly, diagnosed antenatally in our hospitals.
Virtual Interaction based on Speech Recognition and Fingerprint Verification

In this paper, we discuss the user-customized interaction for intelligent home environments. The interactive system is based upon the integrated techniques using speech recognition and fingerprint verification. For essential modules, the speech recognition and synthesis were basically used for a virtual interaction between the user and the proposed system. In experiments, particularly, the real-time speech recognizer based on the HM-Net(Hidden Markov Network) was incorporated into the integrated system. Besides, the fingerprint verification was adopted to customize home environments for a specific user. In evaluation, the results showed that the proposed system was easy to use for intelligent home environments, even though the performance of the speech recognizer was not better than the simulation results owing to the noisy environments

Two new compounds lanast-5,8-dien-3β-ol-27-oic acid-3β-D-glucopyranosyl (4'-1'')-10'',11''-dimethoxy anthracene (1), 2-methoxy-6-(n-nonacontan-5'',6''-dionyl)-11-hydroxy-13-methyl-11β-D-rhamnopyranoside anthracene (2) have been isolated from the hairy root cultures of Catharanthus roseus. Their structures have been elucidated with the help of 500 MHz NMR using one- and two-dimensional NMR in combination with IR, EI/MS, FAB/MS and HRFABMS spectroscopy.

Background/Aims: Although coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread rapidly worldwide, the implication of pre-existing liver disease on the outcome of COVID-19 remains unresolved. Methods: A total of 1,005 patients who were admitted to five tertiary hospitals in South Korea with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 were included in this study. Clinical outcomes in COVID-19 patients with coexisting liver disease as well as the predictors of disease severity and mortality of COVID-19 were assessed. Results: Of the 47 patients (4.7%) who had liver-related comorbidities, 14 patients (1.4%) had liver cirrhosis. Liver cirrhosis was more common in COVID-19 patients with severe pneumonia than in those with non-severe pneumonia (4.5% vs. 0.9%, P=0.006). Compared to patients without liver cirrhosis, a higher proportion of patients with liver cirrhosis required oxygen therapy; were admitted to the intensive care unit; had septic shock, acute respiratory distress syndrome, or acute kidney injury; and died (P<0.05). The overall survival rate was significantly lower in patients with liver cirrhosis than in those without liver cirrhosis (log-rank test, P=0.003). Along with old age and diabetes, the presence of liver cirrhosis was found to be an independent predictor of severe disease (odds ratio, 4.52; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.20–17.02; P=0.026) and death (hazard ratio, 2.86; 95% CI, 1.04–9.30; P=0.042) in COVID-19 patients. Conclusions: This study suggests liver cirrhosis is a significant risk factor for COVID-19. Stronger personal protection and more intensive treatment for COVID-19 are recommended in these patients.
