<P>Mutations in the coactivator CREB-binding protein (CBP) are a major cause of the human skeletal dysplasia Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome (RTS); however, the mechanism by which these mutations affect skeletal mineralization and patterning is unknown. Here, we report the identification of 3-phosphoinositide-dependent kinase 1 (PDK1) as a key regulator of CBP activity and demonstrate that its functions map to both osteoprogenitor cells and mature osteoblasts. In osteoblasts, PDK1 activated the CREB/CBP complex, which in turn controlled runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2) activation and expression of bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2). These pathways also operated in vivo, as evidenced by recapitulation of RTS spectrum phenotypes with osteoblast-specific Pdk1 deletion in mice (Pdk1osx mice) and by the genetic interactions observed in mice heterozygous for both osteoblast-specific Pdk1 deletion and either Runx2 or Creb deletion. Finally, treatment of Pdk1osx and Cbp+/- embryos with BMPs in utero partially reversed their skeletal anomalies at birth. These findings illustrate the in vivo function of the PDK1-AKT-CREB/CBP pathway in bone formation and provide proof of principle for in utero growth factor supplementation as a potential therapy for skeletal dysplasias.</P>

이젝터 시스템은 주유동 제트에 발생되는 전단 응력과 압력차에 의해 흡입 챔버 압력에 영향을 미치거나 이차 흡입 유동을 유도한다. 이젝터는 터빈 기반 복합사이클 추진기관 및 로켓엔진의 고고도 모사 설비, 압력회복장치, 담수화 시스템, 이젝터 램젯시스템과 같이 많은 분야에 적용되어 널리 사용된다. 본 연구에서는 다양한 고고도 환경 모사를 위한 멀티 이젝터의 형상 및 운전 조건을 결정하는 설계 절차를 수립하고자 하였다. Ejector system can induce the secondary flow or affect the secondary chamber pressure by both shear stress and pressure drop which are generated in the primary jet boundary. Ejectors are widely used in a range of applications such as a turbine-based combined-cycle propulsion system and a high altitude test facility for rocket engine, pressure recovery system, desalination plant and ejector ramjet etc. The primary interest of this study is to set up an design procedure on the configuration and operating condition of multi-ejector for the various high altitude simulation.

Propolis is a lipophilic, natural product prepared by mixing the exudates collected from various plants by honeybees with beeswax for the purpose of using to seal hive walls and to strengthen the borders of combs. Because of its versatile bioactivities, propolis has been attracting many investigators` interest. But the pharmacological studies on propolis has, to date, been exclusively performed for an alcohol extract, there is few information of water extract. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the various effects of water extract of Chinese propolis. The water extract of propolis and its fractions of organic solvents showed strong antioxidative activities, especially ether and ethylacetate fractions, and reduced the lipid peroxidation of rat liver in vitro. Additionally the ether fraction of propolis (10 mg/ml) inhibited the activity of hyaluronidase by 50%. In vivo, the water extract of propolis considerably decreased s-GOT, s-GPT and s-LDH activities which represent for the hepatotoxicity induced by CCl₄4 in rats, and prolonged the MST (Medium sevival tinme) and ILS (Increasing in MST over control) by 18% in mice which inoculated with sarcoma 180 ascites cells. These results suggest that the water extract of propolis has various bioactivities as well as the alcohol extract.
Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Recurring as a Solitary Renal Mass

Herein, a case of solitary, unilateral renal metastasis in a patient with curatively resected thoracic esophageal carcinoma, who achieved a pathological complete remission after neoadjuvant concurrent chemoradiotherapy, is reported. The kidney is the 4th or 5th most common visceral metastasis site of a primary esophageal carcinoma. More than 50& of renal metastases typically show bilateral involvement. Solitary, unilateral renal metastasis is extremely rare. Renal metastases from a primary esophageal carcinoma are usually latent and its diagnosis is very unusual in a live patient. The solitary renal metastasis in this case was not accompanied by metastases to other sites. The value of a nephrectomy in solitary renal metastasis of esophageal cancer is not known due to the rarity of such cases. A nephrectomy could be justified in limited situations, such as with uncertainty of histological diagnosis, severe life-threatening hematuria, which cannot be controlled by embolization, or solitary renal metastasis with a long disease-free interval.(Cancer Res Treat. 2004;36:271-274)

Soil and sand of various kinds occurred in earth excavation and land development stage of the construction project can be utilized in various ways according to its kind. The soil and sand occurred in such construction work is classified as waste in the current waste management law; however, it is used in many ways in various kinds of construction work in reality since it contains less foreign substance and the specific physical characteristics possible to use as banking material is secured. However, considerable amount of soil and sand polluted with oil due to oil leakage and intentional discharge of waste oil among the soil and sand from construction work is occurringfrom oil storage facilities or other facilities installed underground. If such polluted soil and sand is used as banking material, heavy metal and etc. may be worried about flowing out and affecting the land environment for the long period of time. Therefore, it is restricted in the country with Waste Management Law. Several methods possible to use such polluted soil and sand have been suggested and the statistic of the Ministry of Environment says that enormousquantity of polluted soil and sand occurs amounting to 27% of the total quantity of soil and sand occurrence in reality. It is considered greatly contributable to the conservation of national land environment if it is reused, therefore, the method for treatment of oil polluted soil and sand is currently required. Accordingly, the purpose of this research is to reuse waste soil and sand as refilling material for pipeline construction work by suggesting the method for reusing oil polluted waste soil and sand in order to reutilize the waste soil and sand polluted from oil after examining and analyzing the purification characteristics according to the rate of addition of washing solution and the time for washing.
