Pulsed low-dose rate radiotherapy for recurrent bone sarcomas: case reports and brief review

Purpose: Re-irradiation for bulky recurrent sarcoma carries significant risks. Pulsed low-dose rate radiotherapy (PLDR) is an attractive option for re-irradiation due to inherent radiobiological advantages. Materials and Methods: We present two patients who underwent re-irradiation using PLDR technique, followed by a literature review. Results: The first case is that of a 76-year-old male who developed an in-field recurrence of a bulky pelvic bone high-grade chondrosarcoma after he was treated with definitive radiotherapy using helical TomoTherapy with a total dose of 66 Gy. The patient was re-irradiated using PLDR with a shrinking field technique; 50 Gy in 2 Gy fractions followed by a boost of 20 Gy in 2 Gy fractions. The patient remains disease-free without significant toxicity 60 months post-irradiation. The second case is that of an 82-year-old female who was treated with a definitive irradiation of 66 Gy in 33 fractions for a right shoulder grade II chondrosarcoma. She developed an in-field recurrence 28 months later and presented with bulky disease causing brachial plexopathy and lymphedema. The patient was re-irradiated with a palliative intent to a total dose of 50 Gy in 2 Gy fractions over 5 weeks using PLDR. Brachial plexopathy resolved shortly after re-irradiation, but local progression near the surface was evident 8 months later. She passed away from unrelated causes 11 months later. Conclusion: We present two cases highlighting our early experience with PLDR, which was effective in the re-irradiation of recurrent bony sarcoma. Our study highlights PLDR as an option for re-irradiation in recurrent unresectable tumors.
Are the U.S. Exports to and Imports from Japan Cointegrated?

The size and duration of the U.S. bilateral trade deficit with Japan has raised concern from both politicians and the general public. This paper seeks to investigate the behavior of this deficit by conducting stationarity tests on the deficit and tests for long-run relationships between U.S. exports to and imports from Japan. We show that, if an endogenously searched break is properly accounted for, exports and imports are cointegrated with a coefficient of one, and the deficit appears to be stationar y. Thus, in contrast to the public`s perception, we conclude that the U.S.-Japan trade deficit may not be “too large.” (JEL Classifications: F14, C22)

Human Face Recognition used Improved Back-Propagation (BP) Neural Network

As an important key technology using on electronic devices, face recognition has become one of the hottest technology recently. The traditional BP Neural network has a strong ability of self-learning, adaptive and powerful non-linear mapping but it also has disadvantages such as slow convergence speed, easy to be traversed in the training process and easy to fall into local minimum points. So we come up with an algorithm based on BP neural network but also combined with the PCA algorithm and other methods such as the elastic gradient descent method which can improve the original network to try to improve the whole recognition efficiency and has the advantages of both PCA algorithm and BP neural

Background: Our previous study demonstrated cytotoxicity of a crude extract from Patrinia heterophylla Bunge (PHEB). In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effects of isovaltrate acetoxyhydrin (IA) isolated from PHEB on the gastric cancer cell SGC-7901, in order to explore a potential treatment for gastric cancer. Methods: MTT assays were employed to determine the effects of IA on cell vitality and proliferation, with monitoring of cell morphology changes and examination of apoptosis with Annexin V-PI staining. Flow cytometry was used to assess cell cycle progression and mitochondrial membrane potential. The activity of caspase 3, 9 was evaluated by spectrophotometry, and the protein levels of Bax, Bcl2 and Cyclin B1 were analyzed with Western blotting of total proteins extracted from cultured cells. Results: The results demonstrated direct toxicity of IA towards SGC-7901 cells. Evidence of apoptosis included blebbing and chromatin condensation. Annexin V-PI assays revealed early apoptosis, involving rapid depolarization of mitochondrial membranes and activity of caspase 3, 9 signaling pathways. Western blotting showed that Bcl2 and Bax proteins was down- and up-regulated, respectively, and cyclin B1 was up-regulated. Cell cycle analysis further indicated that IA could induce G2/M phase arrest in SGC-7901 cells. Conclusions: In conclusion, we believe that IA induces apoptosis of SGC-7901 cells, therefore providing a potential therapeutic agent for treatment of gastric cancer.

This paper experimentally and analytically elucidates the shear behavior and shear bearing capacity of partially prefabricated steel reinforced concrete (PPSRC) columns and hollow partially prefabricated steel reinforced concrete (HPSRC) columns. Seven specimens including five PPSRC column specimens and two HPSRC column specimens were tested under static monotonic loading. In the test, the influences of shear span aspect ratio and difference of cast-in-place concrete strength on the shear behavior of PPSRC and HPSRC columns were investigated. Based on the test results, the failure pattern, the loaddisplacement behavior and the shear capacity were focused and analyzed. The test results demonstrated that all the column specimens failed in shear failure mode with high bearing capacity and good deformability. Smaller shear span aspect ratio and higher strength of inner concrete resulted in higher shear bearing capacity, with more ductile and better deformability. Furthermore, calculation formula for predicting the ultimate shear capacity of the PPSRC and HPSRC columns were proposed on the basis of the experimental results.
서비스 특성 및 기업 역량이 물류서비스 만족도에 미치는 영향 분석: 중국 물류시장을 중심으로

중국 물류시장은 외국계 기업의 진출과 함께 경쟁이 치열해지고 있으며, 물류서비스 관련 다양한 화주의 요구 충족이 강조되고 있다. 본 연구는 중국기업의 관점에서 물류서비스 만족도에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하였다. 특히 서비스 특성과 물류기업 역량을 중심으로 이론적, 실증적 분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 물류서비스 특성 중 정보의 다양성, 활용성, 가격대비 효용성 수준이 중요한 요인으로 확인되었다. 또한 물류기업의 인적 역량, 재무 건전성, 입지조건, 물류 네트워크 수준이 물류서비스 만족도와 직접적인 상관관계가 있었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 물류서비스 만족도 향상과 물류기업 경쟁력 제고에 영향을 미치는 요인을 실증적으로 확인하였다. 하지만 물류서비스 만족도 결정요인에 대한 보다 포괄적인 분석이 요구되며, 설문조사 대상의 확대 및 다양화도 필요하다. 이러한 내용은 본 연구의 한계점이며, 동시에 향후 관련 연구의 중요한 과제로 판단되고 있다. Several countries seek to become global logistics centers that link major trading ports. Various factors are associated with becoming a global logistics center and service satisfaction is one of them. Considering the development of the Chinese economy, global logistics companies are attempting to enter China, with competition in the industry remarkably increasing. A number of systematic logistics services are emphasized to meet customer needs in the Chinese market. This study aims to investigate the various determinants of customer satisfaction relevant to logistics services. Based on theoretical foundations and previous studies, this study provides nine hypotheses using primary data to empirically verify the hypotheses. A survey was conducted on Chinese companies using international logistics services. According to empirical findings, informative and economic services play an important role in improving customer satisfaction of logistics services. In addition, human, financial, and geographical resources are important in logistics services. We consider that the findings can provide implications to logistics companies and policy makers.
