      • Retinoic acid enhances lactoferrin-induced IgA responses by increasing betaglycan expression

        <P>Lactoferrin (LF) and retinoic acid (RA) are enriched in colostrum, milk, and mucosal tissues. We recently showed that LF-induced IgA class switching through binding to betaglycan (transforming growth factor-beta receptor III, T beta RIII) and activation of canonical TGF-beta signaling. We investigated the combined effect of LF and RA on the overall IgA response. An increase in IgA production by LF was further augmented by RA. This combination effect was also evident in Ig germ-line alpha (GL alpha) transcription and GLa promoter activity, indicating that LF in cooperation with RA increased IgA isotype switching. We subsequently found that RA enhanced T beta RIII expression and that this increase contributed to LF-stimulated IgA production. In addition to the IgA response, LF and RA in combination also enhanced the expression of the gut-homing molecules C-C chemokine receptor 9 (CCR9) and alpha 4 beta 7 on B cells. Finally, peroral administration of LF and RA enhanced the frequency of CCR9(+)IgA(+) plasma cells in the lamina propria. Taken together, these results suggest that LF in cooperation with RA can contribute to the establishment of gut IgA responses.</P>

        3′‐Sialyllactose as an inhibitor of p65 phosphorylation ameliorates the progression of experimental rheumatoid arthritis

        <P><B>Background and Purpose</B></P><P>3′‐Sialyllactose (3′‐SL) is a safe compound that is present in high levels in human milk. Although it has anti‐inflammatory properties and supports immune homeostasis, its effect on collagen‐induced arthritis (CIA) is unknown. In this study, we investigated the prophylactic and therapeutic effect of 3′‐SL on the progression of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in <I>in vitro</I> and <I>in vivo</I> models.</P><P><B>Experimental Approach</B></P><P>The anti‐arthritic effect of 3′‐SL was analysed with fibroblast‐like synoviocytes <I>in vitro</I> and an <I>in vivo</I> mouse model of CIA. RT‐PCR, Western blotting and ELISA were performed to evaluate its effects <I>in vitro</I>. Histological analysis of ankle and knee joints of mice with CIA was performed using immunohistochemistry, as well as safranin‐O and haematoxylin staining.</P><P><B>Key Results</B></P><P>3′‐SL markedly alleviated the severity of CIA in the mice by reducing paw swelling, clinical scores, incidence rate, serum levels of inflammatory cytokines and autoantibody production. Moreover, 3′‐SL reduced synovitis and pannus formation and suppressed cartilage destruction by blocking secretion of chemokines, pro‐inflammatory cytokines, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matrix_metalloproteinases and osteoclastogenesis <I>via</I> NF‐κB signalling. Notably, phosphorylation of p65, which is a key protein in the NF‐κB signalling pathway, was totally blocked by 3′‐SL in the RA models.</P><P><B>Conclusions and Implications</B></P><P>3′‐SL ameliorated pathogenesis of CIA by suppressing catabolic factor expression, proliferation of inflammatory immune cells and osteoclastogenesis. These effects were mediated <I>via</I> blockade of the NF‐κB signalling pathway. Therefore, 3′‐SL exerted prophylactic and therapeutic effects and could be a novel therapeutic agent for the treatment of RA.</P>

      • WDM 광소자 제작을 위한 S-Bend형 방향성 결합기 설계에 관한 연구

        In this paper, we proposed a waveguide offset-applied S-Bend type directional coupler for reducing loss and complete coupling. Calculation results were gained by effective index method and simulated by beam propagation method. Condition for calculation are as follows. Refractive index difference between core and clad is 0.75%, clad index is 1.444, waveguide separation is 3 ㎛, and curvature radious is 10000 ㎛. As results from simulation, 3 dB coupler and full coupling directional coupler have to introduce a waveguide offset 0.25 ㎛ for minimum insertion loss and complete coupling, and we certificated that waveguide offset affected to insertion loss properties. Hence, we found that a directional coupler for wavelength division (de)multiplexing has to introduce a proper waveguide offset.

        WDM/FDM is expected to be a basic technology for constructing cost-effectively high-speed and large capacity optical networks in the future, device technologies for supporting WDM/FDM function have begun to be studied actively In this paper, we proposed a 4 channel WDM optical device and simulated it based on Mach-Zehnder Interferometer with channel spacing Δλ=2nm at central wavelength λ =1 55㎛. So, we assumed initial condition that core dimension, 6㎛×6㎛, core index, 1 455, clad index, 1 444 at wavelength 1 55㎛, and the separation between channel waveguides, 4㎛ From this condition, we analyzed a channel waveguide and optical coupler(3㏈ coupler), simulated a single Mach-Zehnder Interferometer, and then designed a 4 channel WDM

      • 加壓浮上法에 依한 活性슬러지 混合液의 固液分離에 關한 硏究

        An effective technique of sludge separation is required for concentrated activated sludge process. The dissolved-air flotation (DAF) has been shown to be efficient process for sludge separation. The factors affecting DAF process for activated sludge separation are type and concentration of sludge, air/solid ratio, ratio of pressurized water flow, pressure, sludge detention time, temperature, sludge and hydraulic loading rate, recycle flow rate of sludge and type and quantity of chemical aid. In order to study the optimal operation condition for sludge separation, the influence factors such as type and concentration of sludge, ratio of pressurized water flow and pressure are investigated by batch and continuous reactor experiments of DAF and sedimentation test. The results obtained through experimental investigation are as follws; 1. For the bulking and concentrated sludge, DAF is more effective than sedimentation for the sludge separation. 2. In DAF, the critical ratio of pressurized water flow exist. The critical value varies with the pressure in the tank. That is, according to the pressure changes from 3 to 5 kg/㎠, the critical value varies from 0.25 to 0.67 accordingly. 3. Pressure affects the ratio of pressurized water flow, but it does not show any influence upon the DAF efficiency directly. 4. Continuous experimental rerults was not better than those of batch.

The server has responsibility of program processing and running.

      • 경관영향평가 항목선정을 위한 타당성 평가

        This research is significant in terms of estimating the validity by setting evaluation items in view of integrating not only original beauty and visual areas but also natural ecological areas based on questionnaire. The results are as follows. 1) According to literature study, 17 items such as variety, the character of sites in terms of landscape, the beauty of landscape, visibility, and ratio of green visibility are selected. Also, 21 items such as variety of animals and plants species, size of green area, and ecological naturalness are selected m the area of landscape ecological resources. 2) As a result of questionnaire of the group of landscape experts, animals and plants ecological areas show 5.6341, the highest in importance analysis according to assessment areas. Also, as a result of importance analysis on items in each area, for example, in the area of visual resources, the item of skyline analysis is 6.0488, the highest. 3) As a result of corelation of item meaning on landscape effect assesment, for example, meaningness of psychological assessment item and landscape site item indicate 0.710, the highest coefficient correlation. 4) As critical assessment items per unit project, items such as damage minimization of original land features for project in terms of point, ratio of green visibility, variety of animals and plants species marked above 8.0 as high important medium. The project in terms of line, minimization of original land features, Preservation of worthy biotope showed high point and the character of sites in terms of landscape, minimization of original land features, the size of green area, and analysis of skyline marked above 8.5 as high importance points. On the contrary, items for climate and soil showed relatively low points.

        Current aging problem is going beyond an individual problem. When we say that old people have 4 difficulties; poverty, disease, loneliness and idleness, it is hard for a person to solve them or get out of them only with his/her own effort. If such an atmosphere spreads, it will become a factor leading the whole society to a negative direction. Aging problem is getting highlighted as a problem for all of us from such a point of view and every region and the government should also make efforts to solve the problem. Especially, the aging problem in the local society has become a problem which is going on and one to be urgently discussed, not a future problem or one belonging to someone else. So, local universities need to strengthen their function as the place of re-education. It is necessary to educate people to change negative point of view on the aging problem. That is, psychological and physical therapeutic function should be added, seeing old age as a completed period not as a declining one. Universities may contribute to increasing the quality of lives of all of the local residents, while seeking reconciliation between the generations of old ages and youngsters by expanding re-education, creating opportunities and providing places. Local universities will have a chance to increase their viability by securing opportunities to provide a different type of education along with that. In addition to this, it will give youngsters more opportunities to get a job with expansion of businesses related with that. Such virtuous cycle can improve the function of the local society and the quality of our lives. 오늘날 고령화 문제는 한 개인의 차원을 벗어나고 있다. 고령자의 4대 괴로움 즉, 빈곤 질병 고독 무위라고 볼 때, 이 점들은 한 개인의 노력으로 벗어나거나 해결하는 것은 쉽지 않다. 더욱이 이러한 분위기가 확대 된다면 사회전체를 부정적으로 이끄는 요인이 될 것이다. 이러한 점에서 고령화는 우리 모두의 문제로 부각되고 있는 것이고, 각 지역과 국가 도 해결을 위한 노력을 경주해야 한다. 특히 지역 사회의 고령자의 문제는 미래의 문제, 혹은 남의 것이 아니라 현재 진행형이며 시급한 과제로서 논의 되어야 하는 사안이 되었다. 이에 지역대학이 나서서 재교육의 장으로서의 기능을 강화할 필요가 있는데, 특히 고령에 대한 부정적인 관점에 대한 변화의 교육이 필요하다. 즉 노년기를 쇠퇴기로 볼 것이 아닌 생의 완성기로 보고 그에 따른 심리적 육체적 치료의 기능이 부가 되어야 할 것이다. 대학은 재교육의 확대와 기회 창출 및 장소의 제공을 통해 지역의 고령인구와 젊은이 사이의 세대 간의 화합을 도모하고 지역민 전체의 삶의 질을 높이는데 기여할 수 있을 것이다. 그와 더불어 지역대학은 또 다른 형태의 교육의 기회를 확보함으로써 자생력을 높이는 기회가 될 것이다. 더하여 젊은이들에게는 이와 관련된 업종의 확대로 인한 취업의 기회도 확대될 수 있을 것이다. 이러한 선 순환적 사이클은 지역사회의 기능을 향상시키고 우리 삶의 질을 높일 수 있다.

        Demodulation wants to adaptive equalizer to minimize interference of intersymbol which generate in multipath fading channel results from signal time and variety multi propagation through channel in digital radio network systems. Therefore using transition ratio of transfer and receiver system and the number of forward and backward using existing individual taps, we study improvement algorithms which generated bit error ratio by signal in frequence select fading. We analysis and compare linear equalizer and decision feedback nonlinear equalizer. Proposed algorithm is more efficent in fading environment when compared of step size by channel character which estimated existing least square and ITLMS algorithm. In this paper, using ITLMS algorithm by decision feedback BER is reduced for intersymbol interference by narrowband TDMA multipath fading in invironment without individual tap weight overlay.
