<P>R/D/E did not improve PFS compared with R/E. Because the PFS reported for R/E was similar to that reported for everolimus plus exemestane in patients with advanced breast cancer, it is possible that lower-dose ridaforolimus in the R/D/E arm (from overlapping toxicities with IGF1R inhibitor) contributed to lack of improved PFS.</P>

The discarding of wastes into the environment is a significant problem for many communities. Still, food waste can be used for lactic acid bacteria (LAB) growth. Here, we evaluated three growth media equivalent to de Mann Rogosa Sharpe (MRS), using apple bagasse, yeast waste, fish flour, forage oats, and cheese whey. Cell-free supernatants of eight LAB strains were tested for antimicrobial activity against nine indicator microorganisms. The supernatants were also evaluated for protein content, reducing sugars, pH, and lactic acid concentration. Cell-free supernatants from fish flour broth (FFB) LAB growth were the most effective. The strain Leuconostoc mesenteroides PIM5 presented the best activity in all media. L. mesenteroides CAL14 completely inhibited L. monocytogenes and strongly inhibited Bacillus cereus (91.1%). The strain L. mesenteroides PIM5 consumed more proteins (77.42%) and reducing sugars (56.08%) in FFB than in MRS broth (51.78% and 30.58%, respectively). Culture media formulated with agroindustrial wastes positively improved the antimicrobial activity of selected LAB, probably due to the production of antimicrobial peptides or bacteriocins.
Mn-doped Zn/Al layered double hydroxides as photocatalysts for the 4-chlorophenol photodegradation
Morales-Mendoza, G.,Tzompantzi, F.,Garcia-Mendoza, C.,Lopez, R.,De la Luz, V.,Lee, S.W.,Kim, T.H.,Torres-Martinez, L.M.,Gomez, R. Elsevier 2015 Applied clay science Vol.118 No.-
Mn-doped Zn/Al layered double hydroxides (LDH) with Mn 0.5-3.0% mol respect to Zn content with improved photocatalytic degradation of 4-chlorophenol (4Clphenol) were studied. The characterization studies showed the isomorphic incorporation Mn as dopant until 1% mol. The 4Clphenol degradation was proposed as result of a combined effect of oxidation by both hydroxyl radicals (OH?) and photogenerated holes (h+). In a proposed mechanism it is suggested that Mn enhances the charge separation acting as electron e- (Mn3+; Mn4+) or hole h+ (Mn2+; Mn3+) traps according to its oxidation state. Exhaustive characterization through EDS, XRD, UV-vis-DRS, TEM-Dark field STEM, fluorescence spectroscopy for OH? detection and XPS, has been done denoting the importance of the Mn content and its different oxidation states in the photophysical and photocatalytic properties of the Mn-doped Zn/Al-based layered double hydroxides.
Robust anti-windup against LTI uncertainty using frequency dependent IQCs
R.M. Morales,W.P. Heath,G. Li 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8
This paper will present a study on the robustness of anti-windup systems where the plantun certainty can be expressed by LTI norm-bounded operators. The treatment is constructed under the IQC framework of Megretski and Rantzer. Robustness of anti-windup systems against LTI uncertainty using frequency dependent IQCs are less conservative than those where plant uncertainty is addressed by statc IQCs. They can how ever increase significantly the computational burden in the algorithms. The papers hows that sufficient conditions for robustness of anti-windup systems against LTI uncertainty can be, in some circumstances, greatly simplified. They can also be expressed in the frequency domain and interpreted graphically. The test is finally exploited for anti-windup tuning.
Generalized 𝜓-Geraghty-Zamfirescu Contraction Pairs in b-metric Spaces
Morales, Jose R.,Rojas, Edixon M. Department of Mathematics 2021 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.61 No.2
The purpose of this paper is to introduce a class of contractive pairs of mappings satisfying a Zamfirescu-type inequality, but controlled with altering distance functions and with parameters satisfying the so-called Geraghty condition in the framework of b-metric spaces. For this class of mappings we prove the existence of points of coincidence, the convergence and stability of the Jungck, Jungck-Mann and Jungck-Ishikawa iterative processes and the existence and uniqueness of its common fixed points.

This work presents the influence of O2 during the cooling stage (CS) after the deposition of the CdTe absorber layer on the photovoltaic parameters of CdTe/PEDOT:PSS hybrid solar cells. The CdTe samples were processed by closed space sublimation (CSS) at a constant deposition pressure of 100 mTorr under 50 %Ar + 50 %O2 atmosphere. After CdTe deposition, the CSS system remained at a constant pressure of 50 mTorr for 10 min of the CS under different Ar + O2 atmospheres and in vacuum, in order to study the influence of the cooling atmosphere on the optical, morphological and structural properties of CdTe and on the photovoltaic parameters of the CdTe/PEDOT:PSS hybrid solar cells. In addition, different cooling times (from 10 to 90 min) were studied in an O2-only atmosphere, when the cooling temperature decreased from 500 to 300 °C inside the CSS system, at the same pressure. SEM micrographs showed changes in the surface morphology of CdTe when cooled in O2 atmosphere; while, EDS showed a slight modification in Te/Cd ratio for some samples with O2 during CS. Carrying out a cooling process in O2 atmosphere for 10 min allows improving the photovoltaic parameters Jsc, Voc, FF, and η of the obtained hybrid solar cells. For cooling times longer than 30 min, the values of Voc and Jsc started to decrease. The solar cells with cooling times of 10 and 30 min in an O2 atmosphere show in the J vs. V curves an increase mainly in the Voc, FF and shunt resistances associated with the mitigation of defects at the interfaces and inside the materials, which may be due to a passivation of the absorber material. Solar cells with an O2 cooling atmosphere also show an essential increase in the EQE response.

Borage (Borago officinalis) is a plant with nutritional value that is also used in traditional medicine to treat gastrointestinal disease. This study investigated the amoebicidal activity of a methanol extract of borage. The 50% inhibitory concentration (IC_50) of the extract for Entamoeba histolytica was 33 μg/mL. The 50% lethal dose of the extract for brine shrimp was greater than 1,000 μg/mL. The IC_50 of the extract for Vero cells was 203.9 μg/mL. These results support the use of borage to prevent diseases associated with E. histolytica infection.

<P>In addition to composition, the structure of a catalyst is another fundamental determinant of its catalytic reactivity. Recently, anomalous Ti oxide-rich surface phases of ternary oxides have been stabilized as nonstoichiometric epitaxial overlayers. These structures give rise to different modes of oxygen binding, which may lead to different oxidative chemistry. Through density functional theory investigations and electrochemical measurements, we predict and subsequently show that such a TiO2 double-layer surface reconstruction enhances the oxygen evolving activity of the perovskite-type oxide SrTiO3. Our theoretical work suggests that the improved activity of the restructured TiO2(001) surface toward oxygen formation stems from (i) having two Ti sites with distinct oxidation activity and (ii) being able to form a strong O–O moiety (which reduces overbonding at Ti sites), which is a direct consequence of (iii) having a labile lattice O that is able to directly participate in the reaction. Here, we demonstrate the improvement of the catalytic performance of a well-known and well-studied oxide catalyst through more modern methods of materials processing, predicted through first-principles theoretical modeling.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jacsat/2015/jacsat.2015.137.issue-8/ja511332y/production/images/medium/ja-2014-11332y_0008.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ja511332y'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>
