In this paper, a non-coherent code tracking loop is designed for 3GPP HSDPA MODEM and its performance is analyzed in terms of steady-state jitter variance and transient response characteristics. Analytical closed-form formula for steady-state jitter variance is first derived for AWGN environments as a function of pulse-shaping filter, timing offset, signal-to-interference ratio, and loop bandwidth. Also obtained is the transient response characteristic of a tracking loop. Finally, the performance of the designed tracking loop is confirmed by computer simulations.

Intraosseous carcinoma of the jaw may arise as metastatic lesions most commonly from breast, lung, kindney and thyroid and also primarily occur from ameloblastoma or odontogenic cyst. Rarely primary intraosseous carcinoma could be originated from the epithelium involved in odonotogenesis. According to WHO's classification, primary intraosseous carcinoma is defined as squamous cell carcinoma, occured in the Jaw without connection to the oral mucosa. However, Elzay defined primary intraosseous carcinoma as malignant epithelial tumor related to the odontogeni apparatus, including carcinoma exodontogenic cyst, carcinoma ex-ameloblastoma and carcinoma de novo. We experienced 2 cases of intraosseous carcinoma of the jaw. The first case, a 59-year-old man, showed a ill-defined mass on the left maxilla, measuring 8x10cm in size. He received radical hemimaxillectomy and was diagnosed as ameloblastic carcinoma. The second case obtained from a 79-year-old woman showed a ill-defined 6x8cm sized mass on the left mandibular body area. The mass was surgically removed by partial mandibulaectomy, which was diagnosed as the primary intraosseous carcinoma, probably odonotogenic origin.

Park Rae Yeon,Lee Hana,Park Kwangyong 대한화학회 2022 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.43 No.5
2′,4′-Dihydroxy-6′-methoxy-3′,5′-dimethylchalcone (DMC), which is isolated from plants, has recently attracted much attention due to its beneficial pharmacological effects. The preparation of twelve 2′,4′,6′-trimethoxy-3′,5′- dimethylchalcone (DMDMC) derivatives, which are dimethylated-derivatives of DMC, is reported herein for the first time. Our synthetic method allowed the efficient construction of the DMDMC derivatives from phloroglucinol in 37.8%– 46.5% overall yields. This promising approach would be advantageous for the production of many different DMDMC derivatives in a short period of time.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Glycogen synthase kinase-3 (GSK-3) plays an important role in the regulation of apoptosis. However, the role of GSK-3 in the auditory system remains unknown. Here we examined whether the GSK-3-specific inhibitors, SB 216763 and LiCl, could protect against cisplatin-induced cytotoxicity of auditory cells. GSK-3 was activated by cisplatin treatment of HEI-OC1 cells. SB 216763 or LiCl treatments inhibited cisplatin-induced apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner and activated caspase-9, -8 and -3. In rat primary explants of the organ of Corti, SB 216763 or LiCl treatments completely abrogated the cisplatin-induced destruction of outer hair cell arrays. Administration of SB 216763 or LiCl inhibited cochlear destruction and the production of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and IL-6 in cisplatin-injected mice. Furthermore, administration of SB 216763 or LiCl reduced the thresholds of the auditory brainstem response (ABR) in cisplatin-injected mice. Collectively, these results suggest that cisplatin-induced ototoxicity might be associated with modulation of GSK-3 activation.</P>

<▼1><P>Detection of ppb level ammonia at room temperature is demonstrated using chemically fluorinated graphene oxide (CFGO). Fluorine adatom extremely enhances ammonia sensing capabilities through the changes of the charge distributions on adjacent functional groups, resulting in the variation in gas adsorption energies.</P></▼1><▼2><P>Chemoresistive gas sensors based on two-dimensional (2D) materials including graphene-based materials have attracted significant research interest owing to their potential use in next-generation technologies including the Internet of Things (IoT). The functionalization of 2D materials is considered as a key strategy to achieve superior gas sensing properties such as high selectivity, high sensitivity, and reversible response and recovery, because it can modulate the chemical and electrical properties of 2D materials for more efficient gas sensing. Herein, we present a facile solution process and the room temperature gas sensing properties of chemically fluorinated graphene oxide (CFGO). The CFGO sensors exhibit improved sensitivity, selectivity, and reversibility upon exposure to NH3 with a significantly low theoretical detection limit of ∼6 ppb at room temperature in comparison to NO2 sensing properties. The effect of fluorine doping on the sensing mechanism is examined by first-principles calculations based on density functional theory. The calculations reveal that the fluorine dopant changes the charge distribution on the oxygen containing functional groups in graphene oxide, resulting in the preferred selective adsorption and desorption of NH3 molecules. We believe that the remarkable NH3 sensing properties of CFGO and investigation by first-principles calculations would enlarge the possibility of functionalized 2D materials for practical gas sensing applications such as the IoT.</P></▼2>

류소연,박종,이철갑,박상기,배화연,안현옥,박영봉,문경래,양은석,노영일 대한비만학회 1998 The Korean journal of obesity Vol.7 No.2
This prospective study was performed to find the associated factors of obesity in primary school children in Kwangju. We studied obesity incidence over 2 years among 4th grade primary school children, In 1994, base line study about 1,344 children of 4th grade was performed and in 2 years later, we reinvestigated health examination and questionnaire about several variables in 922. The 797 children included in the analysis had non-obese(normal and overweight) at baseline in 1994. This results were as follows; l. In 2 years later, 3.5% of normal and 15% of overweight children were to the obese. 2. The body mass index and obesity in one or both parents, sex, overweight at baseline, regular exercise and meat preference were statistically significant factors in simple analysis. 3. In multiple logistic regression analysis, the odds ratios associated with obesity were 0.41 (95% CI: 0.20-0.82) for female, 0.48(95% CI: 0.25-0.92) for doing regular exercise, 4,95(95% CI: 2.55-9.59) for overweight at baseline, and 3.22(95% CI: 1.11-9.34) for obesity in both parents. In conclusion, obesity incidence in primary school children was associated with physical characteristics, genetic factors and social factors like a life style. It is suggested that obesity management and appropriate regular exercise in family unit should be required to prevent obesity in children.

Inhibitor cysteine knot (ICK) peptides exhibit ion channel blocking, insecticidal, and antimicrobial activities, but currently, no functional roles for bee-derived ICK peptides have been identified. In this study, a bee (Apis cerana) ICK peptide (AcICK) that acts as an antifungal peptide and as an insecticidal venom toxin was identified. AcICK contains an ICK fold that is expressed in the epidermis, fat body, or venom gland and is present as a 6.6-kDa peptide in bee venom. Recombinant AcICK peptide (expressed in baculovirus-infected insect cells) bound directly to Beauveria bassiana and Fusarium graminearum, but not to Escherichia coli or Bacillus thuringiensis. Consistent with these findings, AcICK showed antifungal activity, indicating that AcICK acts as an antifungal peptide. Furthermore, AcICK expression is induced in the fat body and epidermis after injection with B. bassiana. These results provide insight into the role of AcICK during the innate immune response following fungal infection. Additionally, we show that AcICK has insecticidal activity. Our results demonstrate a functional role for AcICK in bees: AcICK acts as an antifungal peptide in innate immune reactions in the body and as an insecticidal toxin in venom. The finding that the AcICK peptide functions with different mechanisms of action in the body and in venom highlights the two-pronged strategy that is possible with the bee ICK peptide.
Major royal jelly protein 2 acts as an antimicrobial agent and antioxidant in royal jelly
Park, Min Ji,Kim, Bo Yeon,Park, Hee Geun,Deng, Yijie,Yoon, Hyung Joo,Choi, Yong Soo,Lee, Kwang Sik,Jin, Byung Rae 한국응용곤충학회 2019 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol. No.
<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Royal jelly (RJ) is a well-known functional and medicinal food for human health promotion. Major royal jelly proteins (MRJPs), which are the major protein components in RJ, exhibit antimicrobial activities. However, the identities of the MRJPs of RJ responsible for its antioxidant effects have remained unclear. Here, we report that honeybee (<I>Apis cerana</I>) MRJP 2 (AcMRJP2) acts as an antimicrobial and antioxidant agent in RJ. Using recombinant AcMRJP2, which was produced in baculovirus-infected insect cells, we established the antimicrobial and antioxidant roles of MRJP 2. AcMRJP2 bound to the surfaces of bacteria, fungi, and yeast, which then induced structural damage in the microbial cell walls and led to a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activities. AcMRJP2 protected mammalian and insect cells via the direct shielding of the cell against oxidative stress, which led to reduced levels of caspase-3 activity and oxidative stress-induced cell apoptosis, followed by increased cell viability. Moreover, AcMRJP2 exhibited DNA protection activity against reactive oxygen species (ROS). Our data indicate that AcMRJP2 could play a crucial role as an antimicrobial agent and antioxidant in RJ, suggesting that MRJP 2 is a component responsible for the antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of RJ.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> <I>Apis cerana</I> major royal jelly protein 2 (AcMRJP2) exhibits antimicrobial activities. </LI> <LI> AcMRJP2 protects insect and mammalian cells against oxidative stress. </LI> <LI> AcMRJP2 exhibits DNA protection activity against reactive oxygen species (ROS). </LI> <LI> AcMRJP2 acts as an antimicrobial agent and antioxidant in royal jelly. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
