Aims: Oxidative stress induced by toxicants is known to cause various complications in the liver. Herbal drug such as Liv.52 is found to have hepatoprotective effect. However, the biochemical mechanism involved in the Liv.52 DS mediated protection against toxicity is not well elucidated using suitable in vivo models. Paracetamol causes oxidative stress and dysfunction of the liver. This study was undertaken to evaluate the effects of the hydroalcoholic extract of Liv.52 DS on some biochemical and histopathological parameters of liver tissue in against paracetamol induced hepatic damage in rats. Methods: Wistar rats were orally administered with 2g/kg body weight Paracetamol. Vehicle (distilled water) and silymarin (50 mg/kg body weight) were used as the negative and positive control groups, respectively. Paracetamol -administered groups were treated with Liv 52 DS extract (100, 200, and 400 mg/kg). After 15 days of treatment, the blood specimens and liver samples were examined. Alteration in the levels of biochemical markers of hepatic damage like AST, ALT, ALP and lipid peroxides were tested, and phytochemical tests were also performed. Results: In Paracetamol -treated group, the levels of serum urea, high density lipoprotein (HDL), and liver superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and vitamin C significantly decreased (P<0.05) compared to control. Also, in this group, serum triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), very low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL), protein carbonyl (PC), malondialdehyde, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and TNF-α gene expression significantly increased (P<0.05) as compared to the control (vehicle-treated rats). Treatment with Liv. 52 DS extract in a significant increase (P<0.05) in CAT, SOD, vitamin C, HDL and a significant decrease (P<0.05) in the level of urea, MDA, PC, TG, TC, VLDL, TNF-α protein, and the gene expression of TNF-α compared with test without treatment group. Histopathological evidence demonstrated that treatment with Liv.52 DS extract could decrease liver lymphocyte infiltration. Conclusions: The present study suggests that Liv. 52 DS extract possesses hepatoprotective activity. It could be an effective and promising preventive agent against Paracetamo-induced hepatotoxicity.
A Strong Authentication Scheme with User Privacy for Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are used for many real-time applications. User authentication is an important security service for WSNs to ensure only legitimate users can access the sensor data within the network. In 2012, Yoo and others proposed a security-performancebalanced user authentication scheme for WSNs, which is an enhancement of existing schemes. In this paper, we show that Yoo and others’ scheme has security flaws, and it is not efficient for real WSNs. In addition, this paper proposes a new strong authentication scheme with user privacy for WSNs. The proposed scheme not only achieves end-party mutual authentication (that is, between the user and the sensor node) but also establishes a dynamic session key. The proposed scheme preserves the security features of Yoo and others’ scheme and other existing schemes and provides more practical security services. Additionally, the efficiency of the proposed scheme is more appropriate for real-world WSNs applications.

Aims: Free radical production and oxidative stress are known to increase in liver during aging, and may contribute to the oxidative damage. These changes increase during menopausal condition in females when the level of estradiol is decreased. The objective of this study was to observe the changes in activities of membrane linked ATPases antioxidant enzymes, hepatic enzymes, lipid peroxidation levels and glucose transporters 2 (GLUT 2) expression occurring in livers of female rats of 3, 12 and 24 months age groups, and to see whether these changes are restored to 3 months control levels rats after exogenous administration of 17-ß-estradiol (E2). Methods: The aged female rats (12 and 24 months old) (n=8 for each group) were given subcutaneous injection of 17ß estradiol (0.1 μg/g body weight) daily for one month. Controls animals received an equal volume of vehicle. After 30 days of hormone treatment, experimental animals of all the groups were sacrificed and livers were isolated for further study. Biochemical parameters including serum transaminases [aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT)] and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in serum were analyzed. A detailed study was carried on membrane linked enzymes (Na<sup>+</sup> / K<sup>+</sup> ATPase, Ca<sup>2+</sup> ATPase), antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase, glutathione-S-transferase) and GLUT2 expression with immunohistochemistry to identify the antiaging role of E2 using biochemical, molecular and histochemical study. Results: The results obtained in the present work revealed that normal aging was associated with significant decrease in the activities of membrane linked ATPases, antioxidant enzymes, GLUT 2 expression and an increase in lipid peroxidation and hepatic enzymes in livers of aging female rats. Our data showed that exogenous administration of E2 brought these changes to near normalcy in aging female rats. Conclusions: The present study showed that E2 treatment reversed the changes to normal levels. E2 treatment may be beneficial in preventing some of the age related changes in the liver by increasing antioxidant defenses.
TriSec: A Secure Data Framework for Wireless Sensor Networks Using Authenticated Encryption

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are an emerging technology and offers economically viable monitoring solution to many challenging applications. However, deploying new technology in hostile environment, without considering security in mind has often proved to be unreasonably unsecured. Apparently, security techniques face many critical challenges in WSNs like data security and secrecy due to its hostile deployment nature. In order to resolve security in WSNs, we propose a novel and efficient secure framework called TriSec: a secure data framework for wireless sensor networks to attain high level of security. TriSec provides data confidentiality, authentication and data integrity to sensor networks. TriSec supports node-to-node encryption using PingPong-128 stream cipher based-privacy. A new PingPong-MAC (PP-MAC) is incorporated with PingPong stream cipher to make TriSec framework more secure. PingPong-128 is fast keystream generation and it is very suitable for sensor network environment. We have implemented the proposed scheme on wireless sensor platform and our result shows their feasibility.

Growing pollution and high energy demand are some of the major issues against humans. Waterpollution is one of the main problems created due to industrial waste and irresponsible human activities. Nowadays, photocatalysis is rising as an efficient alternative to overcome the energy requirement andwater purification, as it can use solar light as a source of energy. Due to some limitations of photocatalysts,such as photocarriers recombination, low surface area, and limited light absorption, modificationssuch as defect modifications, heterojunction can be employed. Out of all, Z-scheme heterojunction is aproficient way to overwhelm the limitation of pristine photocatalysts. To enhance the activity of Zschemephotocatalyst, even more, a dual Z-scheme photocatalytic scheme has been developed in whichtwo Z-scheme based charge transfer occur simultaneously on a ternary photocatalyst. In this review, wehave discussed the different types of dual Z-schemes along with their application in water purificationand finally, we have discussed the future prospects for further research.

The present paper studies the thermal-hydraulic behaviour of the rectangular supercritical natural circulation loop (SCNCL) using numerical model of one dimensional. Then the results of this model is confirmed with experimental and benchmark results. Variations with several geometric parameters like loop diameter, riser length, and heater length and operating conditions like heater inlet enthalpy, pressure, friction factor, and inlet and exit loss coefficient on steady-state performance are investigated for various orientations like HHHC, HHVC, VHVC and VHHC of the heater and cooler. The chances of existing static instability (Ledinegg excursion) has been investigated, which reveals that it can arise only in a low inlet enthalpy condition, far from the suggested various orientations of heater and cooler.

The paper investigates the causes of failure of low pressure steam turbine blade of the last stage and suggests few techniques to overcome the failure causes is presented in this paper. The blade under investigation is made of chrome alloy steel. The fracture occurred at the airfoil region of the blade. The investigation included visual inspection, micro structural characterization, SEM-EDS microanalysis and spectroscopy test to identify the causes of failure. The paper also suggests the methods to reduce the blade fatigue subsequently through computation and to enhance the fatigue strength of the steam turbine blade. In order to reduce the blade fatigue susceptibility and to enhance the fatigue life of the steam turbine blade, the wedge shape friction damper is proposed.
