Introduction of a Hybrid SFCL in KEPCO Grid and Local Points at Issue
Ok-Bae Hyun,Kwon-Bae Park,Jungwook Sim,Hye-Rim Kim,Seong-Woo Yim,Il-Sung Oh IEEE 2009 IEEE transactions on applied superconductivity Vol.19 No.3
<P>This report presents efforts for introducing a hybrid superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) associated with the substation upgrade in the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) grid and points at issue on the utility demands. The substation upgrade includes replacement of 154 kV/22.9 kV main transformers and applying 22.9 kV/3 kA SFCLs to protect them. The SFCL is expected to meet not only the general requirements, but also such local conditions as (1) small size to be installed in an in-house substation, (2) sustainable current limitation without the power line breaking by circuit breakers (CB) for maximum 2 seconds. Optionally, recommended are (3) the reclosing capability and semi-active function. Different types of currently developed SFCLs have been examined associated with the conditions. We have proposed a hybrid SFCL of first peak non-limiting type, which potentially fulfills all the local conditions. As an intermediate step, a 22.9 kV/630 A hybrid SFCL was built. This SFCL meets the field requirements of the size limit, 1.5 seconds sustainability of current limitation, 0.3 s reclosing capability and semi-active function. The upgraded hybrid SFCL will be installed in the KEPCO's test line for operation tests. There are two major test targets; long term operation test of the SFCL and protection coordination test using artificial faults.</P>

<P>We have investigated reliability enhancement of the fast switch (FS) by using power electronic switches such as integrated gate commutated thyristors (IGCT) in the line commutation type hybrid superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL). The FS utilizes a vacuum interrupter (VI) to open and close the primary power line. The operation of the FS highly relies upon the complete line breaking by the VI. Since the primary line resistance including the arc resistance may not be extremely high after the VI opens, there may be non-zero arc current in the VI, causing a failure in the line communication. The IGCTs are to completely remove the remanent current in the VI, guaranteeing the arc extinction and enhancing reliability in operation. We fabricated and successfully tested the SFCL which was equipped with the IGCT-assisted FS.</P>
Production of Transgenic Micro-Pig Expressing Human Heme Oxygenase 1
Ok Jae Koo,Hyun Ju Oh,Byeong Chun Lee 한국수정란이식학회 2015 한국동물생명공학회지 Vol.30 No.4
Xenotransplantation of pig islet regarded as a good alternative to allotransplantation. However, cellular death mediated by hypoxia-reoxygenation injury after transplantation disturb success of this technique. In the present study, we produce transgenic pig expressing human heme oxygenase 1 (HO1) genes to overcome cellular death for improving efficiency of islet xenotransplantation. Particularly, Korean miniature pig breed, Micro-Pig, was used in the present study. Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) technique was used to produce the HO1 transgenic pig. Six alive transgenic piglets were produced and all the transgenic pigs were founded to have transgene in their genomic DNA and the gene was expressed in all tested organs. Also, in vitro cultured fibroblasts derived from the HO1 transgenic pig showed low reactive oxygen species level, improved cell viability and reduced apoptosis level

Gastrointestinal irritation is the most frequent adverse effect in patients chronically taking nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for the treatment of arthritic conditions. Gastroprotective effect of DA-9601, a new antiulcer agent from Artemisiae Herba extract, against NSAID was evaluated in a rat model of arthritis that is similar in many aspects to human rheumatoid arthritis. Daily oral dosing of naproxen (30 mg/kg), one of the most commonly used NSAID, induced apparent gastric lesions as well as a significant decrease in mucosal prostagiandin $E_2;(PGE_2)$ and prostagiandin F_${1{\alpha}}$$(PGF_{1{\alpha}})$ levels. Coadministration of DA-9601 prevents naproxen-induced mucosal injury and depletion of prostaglandins, in a dose-related manner. DA-9601 did not alter the antiinflammatory or analgesic effect of naproxen. The present results suggest that DA-9601 may be useful as a mucoprotectant against NSAIDs in clinical practice.

Determination of Deoxynivalenol in Cereal-Based Foods and Estimation of Dietary Exposure
Ok, Hyun Ee,Kim, Hyun Jung,Cho, Tae Yong,Oh, Keum Soon,Chun, Hyang Sook Informa UK (TaylorFrancis) 2009 Journal of toxicology and environmental health. Pa Vol.72 No.21
<P>Deoxynivalenol (DON) is a trichothecene mycotoxin. DON contamination in agricultural food staples such as wheat, barley, and maize due to Fusarium colonization is an increasing problem. In order to provide risk managers with better guidance for regulatory measures, the concentration of DON in cereal-based foods (n = 689), collected from six cities between June 2005 and August 2008, was determined. Further, dietary exposure to DON was estimated by combining data on DON concentration in these foods with their consumption rates. Among 689 samples, 272 samples (39%) were contaminated with DON. Relatively high DON concentrations were found in dried corn, with a mean concentration of 109 mug/kg (n = 74). Daily intake of DON simulated by the @Risk program was estimated to between 0.066 and 0.142 mug/kg body weight (bw)/d for males and between 0.066 and 0.144 mug/kg bw/d for females. The major contributor to DON exposure in the 50th and 95th percentile intake groups was polished rice. For each age class, young children (3-6 yr) showed the highest relative intake, with a mean intake of 0.142 mug/kg bw/d for males and 0.144 mug/kg bw/d for females. However, the estimated daily DON intake did not exceed the provisional maximum tolerable daily intake (1 mug/kg bw/d) for any age group or gender. From our risk assessment, it was concluded that the current intake of DON in South Korea may not serve as a serious health hazard.</P>
Growth behavior of YBCO films on STO substrates with ZnO nanorods
Oh, Se-Kweon,Lee, Cho-Yeon,Jang, Gun-Eik,Kim, Kyoung-Won,Hyun, Ok-Bae The Korean Society of Superconductivity and Cryoge 2009 한국초전도저온공학회논문지 Vol.11 No.4
The influence of nanorods grown on substrate prior to YBCO deposition has been investigated. We studied the microstructures and characteristic of $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-\delta}$ films fabricated on $SrTiO_3$ (100) substrates with ZnO nanorods as one of the possible pinning centers. The growth density of ZnO nanorods was modulated through Au nanoparticles synthesized on top of the STO(100) substrates with self assembled monolayer. The density of Au nanoparticles is approximately $240{\sim}260\;{\mu}m^{-2}$ with diameters of 41~49 nm. ZnO nanorods were grown on Au nanoparticles by hot-walled PLD with Au nanoparticles. Typical size of ZnO nanorod was around 179 nm in diameter and $2{\sim}6\;{\mu}m$ in length respectively. The ZnO nanorods have apparently randomly aligned and exhibit single-crystal nature along (0002) growth direction. Our preliminary results indicate that YBCO film deposited directly on STO substrate shows the c-axis orientation while YBCO films with ZnO nanorods exhibit any mixed phases without any typical crystal orientation.
