Low Pull-in-Voltage RF-MEMS Shunt Switch for 5G Millimeter Wave Applications

        P. Ashok Kumar,K. Srinivasa Rao,B. Balaji,M. Aditya,N. P. Maity,Reshmi Maity,Santanu Maity,Ameen El Sinawi,Koushik Guha,K. Girija Sravani 한국전기전자재료학회 2021 Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Material Vol.22 No.6

RF MEMS switches have been employed in many commercial and defense applications due to their high potentiality at microwave and millimeter wave frequencies. In this paper, an RF MEMS shunt switch is designed with perforations and without perforations and simulated using iterative meanders for millimeter wave 5G applications. The proposed iterative meander offers a low spring-constant of 0.68 N/m and reduces the pull-in-voltage upto 1.8 V. The proposed perforated switch design is more reliable which operates with less transition time of 11.2 μs with a quality factor of 1.69. The switch possesses high capacitance ratio of 63. During ON condition, the switch shows low insertion loss of − 0.24 dB at 41 GHz and high isolation of − 46.7 dB at 38 GHz. The performance of the switch is analyzed by simulating it using COMSOL Multiphysics 5.2v (FEM tool). The obtained simulation results shows close approximation with the theoretical results and the switch is efficiently used for 5G millimeter wave applications.

LWT Based ANN with Ant Lion Optimizer for Detection and Classifcation of High Impedance Faults in Distribution System

        N. Narasimhulu,D. V. Ashok Kumar,M. Vijay Kumar 대한전기학회 2020 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.15 No.4

In this paper, the proposed wavelet-based methodology is developed to identify and classify the High Impedance Fault (HIF) in the Power Distribution System (PDS). The planned technique is based on the combination of Ant Lion Optimizer (ALO) and Artifcial Neural Network (ANN), which is performed to accurately isolate the HIF. The change in phase current waveforms caused by faults and normal switching events has been used in this methodology. In order to develop the method to detect high impedance arcing faults under the linear conditions. The faults are identifed through the computation of the basic electric descriptions of current and voltage signals. From the voltage and current signals, the harmonic components also computed. From the voltage, current signals, the fault are identifed and classifed in the system which can be able to solve the problem in the system. The harmonics level also analyzed which also detected and able to correct it for enabling the stable operation in the system. ANN is an Artifcial Intelligence (AI) method that applied for optimizing precise generation limits as blocking happened. The neural network contains two stages: training stage and testing stage. Here, the ALO algorithm is utilized to improve the performance of the ANN training process. ALO is a new nature-inspired algorithm mimicking the hunting behavior of ant lions. The design of Lifting Wavelet Transform (LWT) is suitable for the classifcation process. The main objective of ANN with the aid of the ALO algorithm is the detection and classifcation of the HIF in PDS and analyzed the delay time of diferent locations. From the evaluation of the proposed technique, the inputs and their corresponding outputs are noted. The performance of the work is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink platform and the presentation of this model is investigated on the basis of the two cases of analysis. The results show that the projected algorithm detects the HIFs accurately and compared with the existing methods ALO, GSA and ANN, and GA and Fuzzy, respectively.

Protective Effect of Panax ginseng extract on Renal Functions Altered by Mercuric Chloride in Albino Rats

        Prabhu N. Saxena,K. Mahour,Ashok Kumar 고려인삼학회 2006 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.30 No.3

Liver and kidney are specific organs which play an active role in biotransformation and detoxification mechanisms. Ant adverse effect of chemicals or heavy metal can cause the delay or fade in these mechanisms. Present study was designed to find out the protective effect of Panax ginseng extract on renal functions altered by mercuric chloride (heavy metal) in albino rat. Fifty albino rats were divided into 10 groups. Five groups for acute study and five groups for sud-acute study viz. control group (Tween 20 and distilled water), mercuric chloride treated group (0.926 ㎎/㎏ body wt. for acute and 0.044 ㎎/㎏ body wt. for sub-acute group after calculated LD?? (9.26 ㎎/㎏ body wt.) by probit analysis (Finney, 1971)¹, Panax ginseng extract treated group (10 ㎎/㎏ body wt. for acute and sub-acute sets), mercuric chloride treated followed by Panax ginseng extract and Panax ginseng extract followed by mercuric chloride group. All doses were given orally by gavage tube. The result revealed that the serum urea and creatinine significantly increased in mercuric chloride treated group, while significantly decreased (p<0.01) in Panax ginseng extract group after acute and sub-acute treatment. The biochemical estimation is also confirmed by nephropathological aspect. However, the Panax ginseng extract treated followed by mercuric chloride group is more prominent than the mercuric chloride treated followed by Panax ginseng extract group. It can be concluded that Panax ginseng extract had a protective nature on renal functions against mercuric chloride toxicity in albino rats.

      • Antioxidant Action of Moringa oleifera Lam. (Drumstick) Against Antitubercular Drugs Induced Lipid Peroxidation in Rats

        L. Pari,N. Ashok Kumar 한국식품영양과학회 2003 Journal of medicinal food Vol.6 No.3

The protective effect of Moringa oleifera Lam. (Moringaceae) on hepatic marker enzymes, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidants was investigated during antitubercular drug (isoniazid, rifampicin, and pyrazinamide)-induced toxicity in rats.Enhanced hepatic marker enzymes and lipid peroxidation of antitubercular drug treatment was accompanied by a significantdecrease in the levels of vitamin C, reduced glutathione, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, and glu-tathione S-transferase. Administration of Moringa oleifera extract and silymarin significantly decreased hepatic marker en-zymes and lipid peroxidation with a simultaneous increase in the level of antioxidants. We speculate that Moringa oleiferaextract exerts its protective effects by decreasing liver lipid peroxides and enhancing antioxidants.

      • Hepatoprotective Activity of Moringa oleifera on Antitubercular Drug-Induced Liver Damage in Rats

        L. Pari,N. Ashok Kumar 한국식품영양과학회 2002 Journal of medicinal food Vol.5 No.3

Moringa oleifera Lam (Moringaceae), commonly known as “ Drumstick,” is used in Indianfolk medicine for the treatment of various illness. We have evaluated the hepatoprotectiveeffect of an ethanolic extract of M. oleifera leaves on liver damage induced by antituberculardrugs such as isoniazid (INH), rifampicin (RMP), and pyrazinamide (PZA) in rats. Oral ad-ministration of the extract showed a significant protective action made evident by its effecton the levels of glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (aspartate aminotransferase), glutamicpyruvic transaminase (alanine aminotransferase), alkaline phosphatase, and bilirubin in theserum; lipids, and lipid peroxidation levels in liver. This observation was suplemented byhistopathological examination of liver sections. The results of this study showed that treat-ment with M. oleifera extracts or silymarin (as a reference) apears to enhance the recoveryfrom hepatic damage induced by antitubercular drugs.171

Application of Bacterial Foraging Algorithm and Genetic Algorithm for Selective Voltage Harmonic Elimination in PWM Inverter

        D. Maheswaran,N. Rajasekar,K. Priya,L. Ashok kumar 대한전기학회 2015 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.10 No.3

Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) techniques are increasingly employed for PWM inverter fed induction motor drive. Among various popular PWM methods used, Selective Harmonic Elimination PWM (SHEPWM) has been widely accepted for its better harmonic elimination capability. In addition, using SHEPWM, it is also possible to maintain better voltage regulation. Hence, in this paper, an attempt has been made to apply Bacterial Foraging Algorithm (BFA) for solving selective harmonic elimination problem. The problem of voltage harmonic elimination together with output voltage regulation is drafted as an optimization task and the solution is sought through proposed method. For performance comparison of BFA, the results obtained are compared with other techniques such as derivative based Newton-Raphson method, and Genetic Algorithm. From the comparison, it can be observed that BFA based approach yields better results. Further, it provides superior convergence, reduced computational burden, and guaranteed global optima. The simulation results are validated through experimental findings.

Panax ginseng Extract as Protectant in Mercuric Chloride Induced Alterations in Protein Biochemistry in the Serum of Albino Rats

Mahour, K.,Saxena, Prabhu-N.,Kumar, Ashok The Korean Society of Ginseng 2006 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.30 No.3

Adverse changes in individual's biochemistry under heavy metal stress are directly linked with its metabolic activity and health status. The present investigation highlights the differences in protecting role of Panax ginseng extract against mercuric chloride induced alterations in serum proteins. The assessment was based on dividing fifty albino rats into two sets, one for acute and the other for sub-acute study. All the sets had five groups with five albino rats in each i.e. control group, mercuric chloride treated group, Panax ginseng extract treated group, mercuric chloride followed by Panax ginseng extract treated group and Panax ginseng extract followed by mercuric chloride treated group. Mercuric chloride was given orally 0.926 mg/kg body weight for acute set and 0.044 mg/kg body weight for sub-acute set after LD50 (9.26 mg/kg body weight) determination by probitt analysis. 10 mg/kg body weight Panax ginseng extract was given in both acute and sub-acute sets after incorporating safety trials. The control group received tween-20 and distilled water only. The result exhibited significantly reduction (P<0.01) in serum protein, albumin and globulin following mercuric chloride intoxication whereas significant (P<0.01) enhancement in other groups with Panax ginseng extract as an ingredient confirming its protective role. All serum samples were also electrophoresed in 10% SDS with standard marker using discontinuous buffering system. Gradual disappearance of alpha-2 and beta-1 globulin bands from electrophoretic pattern was observed, while a single sharp band was observed between beta-2 and gamma globulin in serum protein pattern of acutely mercuric chloride treated rats. However, this band could not be visualized in sub-acute studies. Panax ginseng extract exhibits a better protection after acute intoxication.
