        Development of Frequency Discriminated Simulative Target Generator Based on DRFM for Radar System Performance Evaluation

        Simulative target generators are needed for testing and calibrating various radar systems. The generator in this study discriminates the transmitting frequency from a radar and simulates parameters like target range, range rate, and atmospheric attenuation using the digital RF memory technique. The simulative target echo is then sent to the radar for testing and evaluation. This paper proposes a novel architecture for controlling the digital RF memory so it continually writes ADC data to the memory and reads it for the DAC with increasing one step address in order to control the delay of target range in a simple way. The target echo is programmed according to various preprogrammed scenarios and is generated in real time using a wireless local area network (LAN). To analyze the detected and generated target information easily, the system times for the radar and simulative target generator are synchronized using a global positioning system (GPS).

      • High Power 30W And High Efficiency 80% Piezoelectric Transformer For EB

        현재 우리가 사용하는 에너지원은 98%를 수입에 의존하고 있고 그 중 20%가 조명용전력의 에너지원으로 사용되고 있다. 이런 이유로 비교적 효율이 낮은 조명용 전력의 분야에 정보는 새로운 아이디어를 위해 많은 투자를 해왔다. 같은 이유로 우리 또한 고효율의 조명용 전력을 위해 전기적 안정기를 위한 압전소자를 이용한 트랜스를 연구해왔다. 여기서는 이 압전 트랜스의 등가회로를 모델링하고 시뮬레이션을 통해 검증했다. 그 결과 77.6KHz의 주파수에서 87mA의 입력전류를 인가하여 30W 고전력을 위한 84% 고효율과 0.9의 고전압이득을 얻었다. 또한 기존의 등가회로를 여러 번의 시뮬레이션을 통하여 최적의 파라메타를 추출하였으며, 1단 이상의 2단, 3단의 등가회로를 제작하여 시뮬레이션 하였다. 그 결과 우리가 예상했던 것처럼 단이 올라갈수록 더 좋은 결과가 나옴을 확인할 수 있었다. 이 압전 트랜스는 기존의 것보다 고효율이며 고전력을 낼 수 있어 앞으로의 고전력 응용분야에 많이 사용될 것이다. 더 나아가 30W 이상의 전력과 90%이상의 효율을 갖는 트랜스를 위해 더 많은 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다. Micro-electro-mechanical circuit for 30W high power Piezoelectric Transformer (PT) with modeling and characterizations to be used in Electronic Ballast(EB) is designed for the first time. Significant parameters at 77.6KHz of frequency and 87mA of low input current result in excellent efficiency of 84% and high voltage gain of 0.9 for 30W high power for electronic ballast, which can save much energy and be a great domestic asset. Our proposed PT circuit with proper optimization of circuit parameters can also enhance further power and efficiency for future high power applications.

        Height-Based Formula Predicting Renal Length in Korean Children derived from Technesium-99m Dimercaptosuccinic Acid Scan

        Purpose: The aim of this study was to establish a simple formula to predict renal length in children using a Technesium-99m dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scan data, and to compare it with the formula derived from ultrasonography, which is widely accepted. Methods: Children who underwent a DMSA scan and ultrasonography were reviewed retrospectively, and those who had anatomical urinary tract abnormalities or urinary tract infections were excluded. Results: A total of 230 children (84 males and 146 females; age, 1 month to 16 years; mean age, $16.8{\pm}27.4$ months). Mean renal length measured by DMSA scan was longer than that by ultrasonography ($6.38{\pm}1.16$ vs. $6.02{\pm}1.14cm$; P < 0.001). Renal length was correlated with age, weight, height, and body surface area on the DMSA scan and ultrasonography, and showed the strongest positive correlation with height. The following formulae were established to predict renal length: mean renal length (cm) = 5.433 ${\times}$ height (m) + 2.330 (R2, 0.833) using the DMSA scan data, and mean renal length (cm) = 5.367 ${\times}$ height (m) + 2.027 (R2, 0.853) using ultrasonography data. Conclusion: We propose a simple height-based formula to predict renal length in children using a DMSA scan data, and validate it by comparing with ultrasonography formula.

      • Arsenic trioxide (As<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>) inhibits invasion of HT1080 human fibrosarcoma cells: Role of nuclear factor-κB and reactive oxygen species

        <P>In order to define the role of As<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> in regulating the tumor cell invasiveness, the effects of As<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> on secretion of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA), and in vitro invasion of HT1080 human fibrosarcoma cells were examined. As<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> inhibited cell adhesion to the collagen matrix in a concentration dependent manner, whereas the same treatment enhanced cell to cell interaction. In addition, As<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> inhibited migration and invasion of HT1080 cells stimulated with phorbol 12-myristate 13-aceate (PMA), and suppressed the expression of MMP-2, -9, membrane type-1 MMP, uPA, and uPA receptor (uPAR). In contrast, As<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> increased the expression of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP)-1 and PA inhibitor (PAI)-1, and reduced the MMP-2, -9, and uPA promoter activity in the presence and absence of PMA. Furthermore, the promoter stimulating and DNA binding activity of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) was blocked by As<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, whereas the activator protein-1 activity was unchanged. Pretreatment of the cells with N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC) significantly prevented suppression of MMPs and uPA secretion, DNA binding activity of NF-κB, and in vitro invasion of HT1080 cells by As<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, suggesting a role of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in this process. These results suggest that As<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> inhibits tumor cell invasion by modulating the MMPs/TIMPs and uPA/uPAR/PAI systems of extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation. In addition, the generation of ROS and subsequent suppression of NF-κB activity by As<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> might partly be responsible for the phenomena. Overall, As<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> shows potent activity controlling tumor cell invasiveness in vitro. © 2005 Wiley-Liss, Inc.</P>

      • 뇌성마비 성인의 근골격계와 기능 실태

        The purpose of this study was to report the physical status of adult with cerebral palsy who live in local community areas including Seoul, Busan, Daegu in Republic of Korea at 2004. 202-individuals with cerebral palsy(140 male, 62 female; mean age 31.9 years; range 19 to 64 years) were surveyed. Measures included a 29-item self-reported health status measure focusing on musculoskeletal status and functional performances. Adult cerebral palsy required continuous management for musculoskeletal and ambulatory function through therapeutic approach. This survey is restricted to population who had cared in welfare center for cerebral palsy in local community, so it needs to investigate home-residual adults with cerebral palsy and the population in rural community. The results were as follows: 1. Participants reported that they had a limitation of a daily of life activity due to musculoskeletal pain($43\%$), there was significant differences between a limitation of a daily of life activity and the decreased ambulatory function(p<.05). 2. Thirty six point six percentile of participants had the decreased ADL function, it was significant related with the impaired body location(p<.05) 3. Thirty nine point one percentile of participants who can independently gait had the decreased ambulatory function, it was significant differences with the usage of ambulatory assistive devices(p<.05). 4. There was significant differences ambulatory function both the body region with impairment and a grade of disability(p<.05). 5. Sixteen point three percentile of participants could not ambulate any more, there was significant differences between a age and a point of time for non-ambulation(p<.05). 6. There was significant differences between ambulatory function and physical activity(p<.05).

        소아,청소년 정신병동 환아의 비만관리 프로그램 적용 효과

        Purpose: This research was conducted to compare the effects of an obesity control program on knowledge of obesity, diet habit, exercise habits, and weight loss of children in a pediatric and adolescent psychiatric hospital. Methods: A non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design was used for this study. Eighteen patients were participated in the experimental group and seventeen were participated in the control group. For 8 weeks, the experimental group received the interventions for fifty minutes weekly, which were consisted of knowledge of obesity, diet habit, and exercise habits and weight loss, while the control group received the usual care during the same period. The outcome variables were measured before and after the program. Data were analyzed using t-test with SPSS/WIN 18.0. Results: The experimental group showed more significant improvement in knowledge of obesity, diet and exercise habits than the control group, but weight loss was not different between the groups. Conclusion: To be more effective obesity control program, nurses should collaborate with other staffs including doctors and social workers, and consistently educate the families of the patients.

        미국 홈스쿨링의 제도화 과정분석과 시사점

          본 연구에서는 최근 우리나라에서 학교교육의 대안으로 거론되고 있는 홈스쿨링에 대한 법적 근거마련에 필요한 정보를 제공하고자 이미 제도화되어 미국 대부분의 주에서 합법적으로 운영되고 있는 미국 홈스쿨링의 제도화 과정을 법적 쟁점을 중심으로 기술하였다. 이를 토대로 홈스쿨링을 관할하는 주법의 형태를 세 가지로 구분하여 살펴보았고, 미국 홈스쿨링제도의 교육적 성과를 선행연구결과를 중심으로 제시하였다. 궁극적으로 본 연구는 미국 홈스쿨링제도의 제도화 과정에서 표출된 주요 쟁점들을 고찰ㆍ분석을 토대로 하여 이 제도에 대한 우리나라의 적용가능성을 탐색ㆍ제시하는 데 초점을 두었다.   The purpose of the study is to provide information necessary to the arrangement of lawful evidence on home schooling which is recently discussed as an alternative of school education in Korea. For achieving the purpose, focusing on lawful issue, the study examined the systematization process of home schooling which has become system and is lawfully operated in almost all states of America. based on the examination, the study explored home schooling dividing the law of state into three types and provided the educational outcomes of home schooling in America focusing on the results of previous research. Eventually, based on the examination and analysis of main issues which are identified in the process of systematization of home schooling in America, the study focused on the examination and provision of applicability of home schooling to Korea.
