New version of the magnetic curves according to the Bishop frame in $\mathbb{E}^{3}$

        Muhammed T. Sariaydin,Talat Korpinar 호남수학회 2019 호남수학학술지 Vol.41 No.1

In this paper, it is investigated Lorentz force equations for $N_{1}$ and $N_{2}$-magnetic curves in 3-Dimensional Euclidean space. We give the Lorentz force in the Bishop frame in $\mathbb{E}^{3}$. Then, we obtain a new characterization for a magnetic field $V$. Also, we also give examples for each curve.

Modified screen‑printed electrochemical biosensor design compatible with mobile phones for detection of miR‑141 used to pancreatic cancer biomarker

        Muhammed Bekmezci,Ramazan Bayat,Merve Akin,Zeynep Kazel Coguplugil,Fatih Sen 한국탄소학회 2023 Carbon Letters Vol.33 No.6

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are emerging materials as ideal biomarkers for noninvasive cancer detection in the early phase. In this article, a simple and label-free electrochemical miRNA biosensor was developed. A single-stranded DNA (ss-DNA) probes were successfully mapped to f-MWCNT and hybridized with the target miR-141 sequence. The optimum peak points of the obtained hybridization were determined using Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) and Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV) methods. Significant peaks were observed in the results, depending on miR-141 at different concentrations. The linear relationship (ν) between redox peak currents (Ip) and scanning rate indicated that electron transfer (ET) between miR-141 and the electrode surface was accomplished successfully. In DPV measurements, miR-141 was measured with a low detection limit (LOD) in the 1.3–12 nM concentration range, and the LOD and limit of quantification (LOQ) results were found to be 3 and 9.1 pM, respectively. Besides, selectivity test was investigated for the biosensor using different target analytes and a significant difference in value was observed between the peak currents of miR-141, and other target molecules. This developed strategy has been found to detect miR-141 sensitively, selectively and without tags, and its integration into mobile devices has been successfully carried out.

Evaluation of the Safety and Efficacy of a Multienzyme Complex in Patients with Functional Dyspepsia: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study

        Muhammed Majeed,Shaheen Majeed,Kalyanam Nagabhushanam,Sivakumar Arumugam,Anurag Pande,Mahesh Paschapur,Furqan Ali 한국식품영양과학회 2018 Journal of medicinal food Vol.21 No.11

Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a highly prevalent disorder having nonspecific symptoms and varied pathophysiology. Its treatment remains a challenge as therapeutic options are limited, unsatisfactory, and elusive. Thus, safety and efficacy of DigeZyme®, a proprietary multienzyme complex (MEC), was evaluated as a dietary supplement in FD patients. In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study, 40 patients were randomly assigned (1:1 ratio) to receive either MEC (50 mg, TID; n = 20) or placebo (n = 20) for 60 days. Reports of adverse or serious adverse events (AEs), abnormal results of vital signs, abnormal findings during physical examination, and abnormal laboratory investigations were monitored closely. Efficacy measures were change in Short-Form Leeds Dyspepsia Questionnaire (SF-LDQ), Nepean Dyspepsia Index-Short Form (NDI-SF), Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Clinical Global Impression Severity Rating Scale (CGI-S), and Glasgow Dyspepsia Severity Score (GDSS) at baseline and follow-up visits on day 15, 30, and 60. Supplementation with MEC was associated with statistically significant differences (P value ranging from .0401 to .0033) in all efficacy parameters compared with placebo. The between-group comparison also revealed that MEC supplement had a significantly greater effect (P < .001) versus placebo. No investigation product-related AEs were reported. There were no clinically significant abnormalities in physical findings and no statistically significant changes in biochemical and hematological parameters, vital signs, body weight, and body mass index observed between the two groups at baseline and follow-up visits. MEC supplementation represents an effective and safe alternative to manage dyspepsia symptoms in FD patients.

Numerical Evaluation on the Steel Plate Shear Wall Design Parameters for Improved Cyclic Behavior

Muhammed Gürbüz,İlker Kazaz 한국강구조학회 2022 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.22 No.2

In previous studies, the relationship between the collapse behavior of steel plate shear walls (SPSW) and the design parameters beyond the design drift limits is not addressed in the same framework. In this study, the eff ects of design parameters, such as the column fl exibility parameter, axial load level on boundary columns, column-to-beam stiff ness ratio, plate thickness and plate aspect ratio, on the deformation capacity and failure modes of steel plate shear walls are investigated in a parametric study using the fi nite element models of three-story SPSWs with rigid beam-column connections (moment-resisting frames). Models are analyzed under monotonic and cyclic loading. The ranges of parameters in combination leading to poor, moderate and improved displacement capacity, failure mechanism and energy dissipation capacity of SPSWs are identifi ed. A formula is developed to estimate the ultimate drift ratio of SPSWs using design parameters. The infi ll plate-frame interaction is investigated and it is determined that 25% of the total shear force resisted by the frame component is necessary for desired seismic behavior of SPSWs.

Assesment of Myocardial Ischemia by Combination of Tissue Synchronisation Imaging and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiography

        Muhammed Hakan Tas,Enbiya Aksakal,Yekta Gurlertop,Ziya Simsek,Fuat Gundogdu,Serdar Sevimli,Eftal Murat Bakirci,Sule Karakelleoglu 대한심장학회 2013 Korean Circulation Journal Vol.43 No.6

Background and Objectives: Dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE) is an important non-invasive imaging method for evaluating ischemia. However, wall motion interpretation can be impaired by the experience level of the interpreter and the subjectivity of the visual assessment. In our study we aimed to combine DSE and tissue syncronisation imaging to increase sensitivity for detecting ischemia. Subjects and Methods: 50 patients with indications for DSE were included in the study. In 25 patients we found DSE positive for isch-emia and in the other 25 patients we found it to be negative. The negative group was accepted as the control group. There was no signifi-cant difference in terms of risk factors and echocardiographic parameters between the two groups, except for wall motion scores. In both groups, left ventricular dyssychrony was accepted as the difference between time to peak systolic velocity (Ts) in the reciprocal four cou-ple of non-apical segments at rest and during peak stress. Timings were corrected for heart rate. We compared the differences of the dys-synchronisation value at rest and during peak stress to determine the distinctions within the groups and between the groups of DSE pos-itive and negative patients. Results: We found that stress and ischemia did not create any significant difference over the left intraventricular dyssynchrony with DSE,although at the segmenter level it prolonged the time to peak systolic velocity (p<0.05). These alterations did not show any significant difference between positive and negative DSE groups. Conclusion: As a result, this segmenter dyssynchrony and the time to peak systolic velocity, which is corrected for heart rate, did not en-hance any new value over DSE for detecting ischemia.

Non-preemptive Queueing Model of Spectrum Handoff Scheme Based on Prioritized Data Traffic in Cognitive Wireless Networks

Muhammed Enes Bayrakdar,Ali Çalhan 한국전자통신연구원 2017 ETRI Journal Vol.39 No.4

In this study, a non-preemptive M/G/1 queueing model of a spectrum handoff scheme for cognitive wireless networks is proposed. Because spectrum handoff gives secondary users an opportunity to carry on their transmissions, it is crucially important to determine the actions of primary users. In our queueing model, prioritized data traffic is utilized to meet the requirements of the secondary users. These users’ packets are categorized into three different priority classes: urgent, real-time, and non-real time. Urgent data packets have the highest priority, while non-real time data packets have the lowest priority. Riverbed (OPNET) Modeler simulation software was used to simulate both reactive and proactive decision spectrum handoff schemes. The simulation results were consistent with the analytical results obtained under different load and traffic conditions. This study also revealed that the cumulative number of handoffs can be drastically decreased by exploiting priority classes and utilizing a decent spectrum handoff strategy, such as a reactive or proactive decision-based strategy.

The fuzzy logic-based modeling of a micro-scale sloped solar chimney power plant

Muhammed Huseyin Guzel,Recep Emre Unal,Ahmet Onder,Muhammed Arif Sen,Faruk Kose 대한기계학회 2021 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.35 No.3

The energy demand of world is increasing worldwide because of increasing population and developing technology. The use of environmentally friendly renewable resources is very important in providing the increasing energy needs. In the renewable energy sources, the solar energy has a strategic importance because of its huge potential and unlimited. The production of electrical energy by solar chimney power plants is one of the reliable and profitable methods. Fuzzy logic-based approaches are commonly used for modeling different systems in many fields. Also, a renewable energy system can be modelled by fuzzy definitions. In this way, it can provide efficiently and quickly theoretical estimates of systems with productive simulations. In this study, using the experimental data obtained from the micro-scale sloped solar chimney power plant in carried on scientific research project by authors, the obtaining and verifying a fuzzy logic-based model (FLBM) that can calculate the change in air velocity at turbine according to the change of radiation and temperature is presented. The air velocity at the turbine inlet is the considerable variable determining the electricity generation in a solar chimney. Thus, the output of the model is determined as this air velocity. In changes in the radiation and temperature values are defined as inputs. A two input-one output fuzzy model is obtained, in which the inference method is designed in the form of Mamdani and the membership functions in the form of the triangle, making inferences according to the rule base determined by the experience achieved from the experimentally studies. In order to investigate the accuracy of the FLBM, the simulation results and the data get from experimental setup in April 2019 are compared and evaluated. The validation of the FLBM compared to the experimental system is investigated using different error evaluation criteria. It is proved that the results of FLBM and experimental data are realized at a high rate (95.95 %) close to each other and similarly.

Exploring the Financing Gap Between Young Entrepreneurs and Venture Capitalists

Muhammed Ayub Siddiqui,Sara Majid 한국유통과학회 2013 Asian Journal of Business Environment (AJBE) Vol.3 No.2

Purpose - This pilot study explores the gap between venture capitalists and young business graduates in Pakistan. Though the young graduates remain enthusiastic about choosing entrepreneurship as a profession, their success is subject to financial constraints. Research design, data, methodology - We administered a Likert-scale based questionnaire to 200 business graduates from June to July 2012, and interviewed ten venture capitalists from Islamabad and Lahore—two highly business oriented cities of Pakistan—to collect the data. The survey participation was on a voluntary basis without any financial sponsorship. Findings- There is a communication gap between the two parties (venture capitalists and business graduates), and a lack of trust in the entrepreneurial education and training offered in the educational institutions in Pakistan. The study, however, reveals the leading role of the Government in reducing this gap through certain measures. Conclusions - Some measures that can reduce the gap between venture capitalists and young graduates are: association of business schools with industry; financial institutions’initiatives to financially support the small and medium level projects of the economics and business students during their studies; establishment of placement bureaus in the business schools; and organization of regular open houses in the universities

Construction Schedule Delay Risk Assessment by Using Combined AHP-RII Methodology for International NPP Project

MUHAMMED MUFAZZAL HOSSEN,SUNKOO KANG,JONGHYUN KIM 한국원자력학회 2015 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.47 No.3

In this study, Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) construction schedule delay risk assessment methodology is developed and the construction delay risk is assessed for turnkey international NPP projects. Three levels of delay factors were selected through literature review and discussions with nuclear industry experts. A questionnaire survey was conducted on the basis of an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and Relative Importance Index (RII) methods and the schedule delay risk is assessed qualitatively and quantitatively by severity and frequency of occurrence of delay factors. This study assigns four main delay factors to the first level: main contractor, utility, regulatory authority, and financial and country factor. The second and the third levels are designed with 12 sub-factors and 32 sub-sub-factors, respectively. This study finds the top five most important sub-sub-factors, which are as follows: policy changes, political instability and public intervention; uncompromising regulatory criteria and licensing documents conflicting with existing regulations; robust design document review procedures; redesign due to errors in design and design changes; and worldwide shortage of qualified and experienced nuclear specific equipment manufacturers. The proposed combined AHP-RII methodology is capable of assessing delay risk effectively and efficiently. Decision makers can apply risk informed decision making to avoid unexpected construction delays of NPPs
