GUT monopoles captured by the Sun's gravitation are expected to catalyze proton decays via the Callan-Rubakov process. In this scenario, protons, which initially decay into pions, will ultimately produce ν<SUB>e</SUB>,ν<SUB>μ</SUB> and ν@?<SUB>μ</SUB>. After undergoing neutrino oscillation, all neutrino species appear when they arrive at the Earth, and can be detected by a 50,000 metric ton Water Cherenkov detector, Super-Kamiokande (SK). A search for low energy neutrinos in the electron total energy range from 19 to 55MeV was carried out with SK and gives a monopole flux limit of F<SUB>M</SUB>(σ<SUB>0</SUB>/1mb)<6.3x10<SUP>-24</SUP>(β<SUB>M</SUB>/10<SUP>-3</SUP>)<SUP>2</SUP>cm<SUP>-2</SUP>s<SUP>-1</SUP>sr<SUP>-1</SUP> at 90% C.L., where β<SUB>M</SUB> is the monopole velocity in units of the speed of light and σ<SUB>0</SUB> is the catalysis cross section at β<SUB>M</SUB>=1. The obtained limit is several orders of magnitude more stringent than the current best cosmic-ray supermassive monopole flux limit for β<SUB>M</SUB><10<SUP>-2</SUP> and also two orders of magnitude lower than the result of the Kamiokande experiment, which used a similar detection method.

<P>SIZ1 is a SUMO E3 ligase that facilitates conjugation of SUMO to protein substrates. siz1-2 and siz1-3 T-DNA insertion alleles that caused freezing and chilling sensitivities were complemented genetically by expressing SIZ1, indicating that the SIZ1 is a controller of low temperature adaptation in plants. Cold-induced expression of CBF/DREB1, particularly of CBF3/DREB1A, and of the regulon genes was repressed by siz1. siz1 did not affect expression of ICE1, which encodes a MYC transcription factor that is a controller of CBF3/DREB1A. A K393R substitution in ICE1 [ICE1(K393R)] blocked SIZ1-mediated sumoylation in vitro and in protoplasts identifying the K393 residue as the principal site of SUMO conjugation. SIZ1-dependent sumoylation of ICE1 in protoplasts was moderately induced by cold. Sumoylation of recombinant ICE1 reduced polyubiquitination of the protein in vitro. ICE1(K393R) expression in wild-type plants repressed cold-induced CBF3/DREB1A expression and increased freezing sensitivity. Furthermore, expression of ICE1(K393R) induced transcript accumulation of MYB15, which encodes a MYB transcription factor that is a negative regulator of CBF/DREB1. SIZ1-dependent sumoylation of ICE1 may activate and/or stabilize the protein, facilitating expression of CBF3/DREB1A and repression of MYB15, leading to low temperature tolerance.</P>

The applied surface-potential-based modeling allows self-consistent description of all phenomena important for accurate circuit simulation, as demonstrated with the MOSFET model HiSIM.<br/>

A brief introduction is presented on the radiation safety studies at Tohoku University Cyclotron & Radioisotope Center. Studios on two subject are described; (1) measurement of the thick target neutron yield and radioisotope production / activation cross section for ten's of MeV neutrons and ions using K=110 Tohoku University cyclotron to provide basicdata fur accelerator shielding, and (2) development of techniques for high sensitive radiation detection and profile measurement using an Imaging Plate which is a high sensitive two-dimensional radiation sensor. Application of the Imaging Plate techniques to localization of very weak radioactivity and to neutron profile measurement is described.
Coincidence measurement of the nonmesonic weak decay of <sup>12</sup><sub><i>Λ</i></sub>C

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>We have measured the angular correlation of the pair nucleons <I>np</I> and <I>nn</I> emitted from the nonmesonic weak decay (NMWD) of <SUP>12</SUP><SUB><I>Λ</I></SUB>C produced via the (<SUP>π+</SUP>,<SUP>K+</SUP>) reaction in coincidence measurement. The Λp→np and Λn→nn modes were clearly identified by measuring the back-to-back correlation of the emitted nucleon pairs which is the characteristic of two-body kinematics. From the measured nucleon pair numbers <SUB>Nnn</SUB> and <SUB>Nnp</SUB>, the ratio <SUB>Γn</SUB>/<SUB>Γp</SUB> of the partial decay widths <SUB>Γn</SUB>(Λn→nn) and <SUB>Γp</SUB>(Λp→np) of <SUP>12</SUP><SUB><I>Λ</I></SUB>C was extracted to be 0.51±0.13(stat)±0.05(syst); this result is almost free from the ambiguity due to the nuclear final state interaction and 3-body decay process, which were inherent in the previous results. The obtained <SUB>Γn</SUB>/<SUB>Γp</SUB> ratio of <SUP>12</SUP><SUB><I>Λ</I></SUB>C (<I>p</I>-shell) is close to that of <SUP>5</SUP><SUB><I>Λ</I></SUB>He (<I>s</I>-shell). The results are consistent with those of recent theoretical calculations.</P>

<P>We have searched for proton decay via p -> e(+) pi(0) and p -> mu(+) pi(0) using Super-Kamiokande data from April 1996 to March 2015, 0.306 megaton center dot years exposure in total. The atmospheric neutrino background rate in Super-Kamiokande IV is reduced to almost half that of phase I-III by tagging neutrons associated with neutrino interactions. The reach of the proton lifetime is further enhanced by introducing new signal criteria that select the decay of a proton in a hydrogen atom. No candidates were seen in the p -> e(+) pi(0) search. Two candidates that passed all of the selection criteria for p -> mu(+) pi(0) have been observed, but these are consistent with the expected number of background events of 0.87. Lower limits on the proton lifetime are set at tau/B(p -> mu(+) pi(0)) > 1.6 x 10(34) years and tau/B(p -> mu(+) pi(0) ) > 7.7 x 10(33) years at 90% confidence level.</P>
