Effects of zolpidem on sleep parameters in patients with cirrhosis and sleep disturbances: A randomized, placebo-controlled trial

        Manoj Kumar Sharma,Sumeet Kainth,Sachin Kumar,Ankit Bhardwaj,Hemant Kumar Agarwal,Rakhi Maiwall,Kapil Dev Jamwal,Saggere Muralikrishna Shasthry,Ankur Jindal,Ashok Choudhary,Lovkesh Anand,Rajender Mal 대한간학회 2019 Clinical and Molecular Hepatology(대한간학회지) Vol.25 No.2

Background/Aims: The aim of this study was to study the efficacy and safety of zolpidem for sleep disturbances in patients with cirrhosis. Methods: Fifty-two Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) class A or B cirrhotics with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index >5 were randomized to either zolpidem 5 mg daily (n=26) or placebo (n=26) for 4 weeks. Results: The therapy of 4 weeks was completed by 23 patients receiving zolpidem (3 stopped treatment due to excessive daytime drowsiness) and 24 receiving placebo (2 refused to continue the study). In the zolpidem group, after 4 weeks of therapy, there was significant increase in total sleep time (TST) and sleep efficiency compared to baseline and improvement in polysomnographic parameters of sleep initiation and maintenance (i.e., decrease in sleep latency time, decrease in wake time, and decreases in number of arousals and periodic limbs movements per hour of sleep), without any significant change in sleep architecture. Conclusions: Four weeks of 5 mg daily zolpidem in CTP class A or B cirrhosis patients with insomnia led to significant increases in TST and sleep efficiency and improvement in polysomnographic parameters of sleep initiation and maintenance without any significant change in sleep architecture.

Genome Organization in Coffee as Revealed by EST PCRRFLP, SNPs and SSR Analysis

        Manoj Kumar Mishra,Patrizia Tornincasa,Barbara De Nardi,Elisa Asquini,René Dreos,Lorenzo Del Terra,Rajkumar Rathinavelu,Paola Rovelli,Alberto Pallavicini,Giorgio Graziosi 한국작물학회 2011 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.14 No.1

An EST-based PCR-RFLP method was employed to gain insight into genome organization in eight allopolyploid Coffea arabica cultivars and seven diploid coffee species. The PCR-amplified products at 19 EST loci were digested with 46 different restriction enzymes and size fractioned in agarose gels. Most often, the sum of the fragments length was double or more than the PCR product. In arabica, this condition could be explained by assuming the presence of duplicated loci in paralogous chromosomes and this was supported by considerable evidence of multiple loci SSR amplification. Based on the RFLP analysis, 12 EST loci were polymorphic. The level of polymorphism was higher in different species compared to the arabica varieties. Sequencing of the amplified products revealed a SNP frequency of 0.021 among diploid species and of 0.007 among arabica varieties. We propose that the involvement of two genomes in C. arabica maintains a residual level of heterozygosity in the form of paralogous chromosomes, while the self-fertilization in this species tends to drive of homozygosity. The heterozygosity of paralogous chromosomes in arabica creates valuable polymorphism essential for species diversity and survival in various ecological niches, while self-fertility tends to preserve in homozygosity many genes of functional significance.

Amenability of Castor to an Agrobacterium- Mediated in planta Transformation Strategy Using a cry1AcF Gene for Insect Tolerance

Kumar, Arthikala Manoj,Sreevathsa, Rohini,Reddy, Kalpana Nanja,Ganesh, Prasa Trichy,Udayakumar, Makarla 한국작물학회 2011 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.14 No.2

Agrobacterium tumefaciens mediated in planta transformation protocol was developed for castor, Ricinus communis. Two-day-old seedlings were infected with Agrobacterium strain EHA105/pBinBt8 harboring cry1AcF and established in the greenhouse. Screening the $T_1$ generation seedlings on 300 mg $L^{-1}$ kanamycin identified the putative transformants. Molecular and expression analysis confirmed the transgenic nature and identified high-expressing plants. Western blot analysis confirmed the co-integration of the nptII gene in the selected transgenic plants. Bioassay against Spodoptera litura corroborated with high expression and identified five promising effective lines. Analysis of the $T_2$ generation plants proved the stability of the transgene indicating the feasibility of the method.

Processing of polysiloxane-derived porous ceramics: a review

Manoj Kumar, B V,Kim, Young-Wook Elsevier 2010 SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY OF ADVANCED MATERIALS Vol.11 No.4

Because of the unique combination of their attractive properties, porous ceramics are considered as candidate materials for several engineering applications. The production of porous ceramics from polysiloxane precursors offers advantages in terms of simple processing methodology, low processing cost, and easy control over porosity and other properties of the resultant ceramics. Therefore, considerable research has been conducted to produce various Si(O)C-based ceramics from polysiloxane precursors by employing different processing strategies. The complete potential of these materials can only be achieved when properties are tailored for a specific application, whereas the control over these properties is highly dependent on the processing route. This review deals with processing strategies of polysiloxane-derived porous ceramics. The essential features of processing strategies—replica, sacrificial template, direct foaming and reaction techniques—are explained and the available literature reports are thoroughly reviewed with particular regard to the critical issues that affect pore characteristics. A short note on the cross-linking methods of polysiloxanes is also provided. The potential of each processing strategy on porosity and strength of the resultant SiC or SiOC ceramics is outlined.

      • EEG De-Noising Based on Wavelet-Transforms and Extraction of Sub-band Components related to Movement Imagination

Manoj Kumar Mukul,Fumitoshi Matsuno 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8

To curtail the Electrode placement time and accelerate the process it is required to record two channels placed on right and left hemisphere of brain based on active region depending on mental task. Raw EEG signals are contaminated with various kinds of noise such as ocular artifacts (EOG) and high frequency mussel noise etc. This paper is an application of wavelet transform based on Filter bank approach whereby it is possible to extract the noise free sub-band signal from noisy EEG signal. The performance of the Extracted Sub-band Components has been evaluated by taking the Power Spectral density for left hemisphere as well as right hemisphere channel sub-band components.

      • Relative Spectral Power and Power Spectral Density Changes in Motor Rhythm for Movement Imagination

        Manoj Kumar Mukul,Rajkishore Prasad,Fumitoshi Matsuno 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8

EEG signals are not the direct access to the level of thought and thought related actions but it represents shadow of that and hence to some extent thought related patterns can be inferred and used for controlling action The Useful information contained in EEG signal is in the form of EEG Rhythm. Rhythmic analysis of EEG signal is very important for extraction of good features for classification of movement imagery data. This paper proposed the feature which is sum of power spectral density of left hemisphere channel (C3) as well as right hemisphere channel (C4) for movement imagery trials.

Assessment of the Antiulcer Potential of Moringa oleifera Root-Bark Extract in Rats

        Manoj Kumar Choudhary,Surendra H. Bodakhe,Sanjay Kumar Gupta 사단법인약침학회 2013 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.6 No.4

In the present study, an ethanolic root-bark extract of Moringa oleifera (MO) was examined for its antiulcer potential in albino Wistar rats using two experimental models: ethanol-induced and pylorus ligation-induced gastric ulceration. The extract was orally administered at three different doses (150, 350, and 500 mg/kg) for 15 consecutive days. The antiulcer effects in rats treated with different doses of the extract and omeprazole (30 mg/kg, p.o.) were determined and compared statistically with the antiulcer effects in the control rats treated with saline (NaCl, 0.9%). The MO at doses of 350 and 500 mg/kg decreased the ulcer index significantly as compared to the control group (p < 0.01). The percentage protections against gastric ulcers were 82.58%, 85.13%, and 86.15% for MO doses of 150, 350, and 500 mg/kg, respectively, in the pylorus-ligated ulcer model and 55.75%, 59.33%, and 78.51%, respectively, in the ethanol-induced ulcer model. The MO significantly reduced the free acidity, total acidity, and ulcer index (p < 0.01) and increased the pH of gastric content compared with the control group. This study suggests that MO possesses valuable antiulcer, antisecretory, and cytoprotective activity. Thus, an ethanolic root-bark extract of Moringa oleifera can be used as source for an antiulcer drug.

Novel visible-light-driven cobalt loaded neutralized red mud (Co/NRM) composite with photocatalytic activity toward methylene blue dye degradation

Manoj Kumar Sahu,Raj Kishore Patel 한국공업화학회 2016 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.40 No.-

Cobalt doped neutralized red mud (Co/NRM) nanocomposite materials were prepared by impregnationmethod for the photodegradation of methylene blue dye under solar light irradiation. Different Co/NRMcatalysts were prepared by varying the weight ratio of Co and NRM and characterized by differentinstrumental techniques. Under solar light 97.21% degradation was observed in the presence of 0.08 g ofCo/NRM (Co:NRM::20:80) photocatalyst within 150 min for 20 mg/L methylene blue solution at pH9. These results underline the potential use of effective, low-cost and easily available photocatalysts forthe promotion of water splitting and environmental remediation under natural sunlight.
