Root chicory (Cichorium intybus L. var. sativus) is potential alternative medicinal and sugar crop which accumulates a high amount of linear polyfructan, inulin in its roots. A problem in root production is that over-wintered stock plants often flower. Once the plant becomes reproductive, stem elongation and root growth slows and floral buds arise from every node, rendering the plants useless for propagation. The objectives of this research was to examine the effectiveness of manipulating environmental factors containing photoperiod, temperature and number of leaf states. The experiment was performed in growth chamber to create two photoperiods (8 h, and 16 h) with three temperature regimes (5℃/3℃, 10℃/8℃, and 15℃/13℃ day/night temperature) for a total of six treatments on three type of true-leaf stage of plant. Data of bolting rate, shoot and root length, shoot and fresh weight was invetigated in each treatments. This is the first report on changes in bolting rate and shoots and roots production during a whole growing season and differences in the effect of cold and photoperiod treatment depending on the true-leaf stage of plant.

In this work, a new type of UV flame detection system was developed. In order to measure the performance of UV flame detector, various kinds of experiments was performed. The results show that the maximum response time of the UV flame detector is 0.2 seconds when the detection distance is one meter The advantages of this system include wide area, high speed response and high sensitivity. After testing the W flame detector in engine compartment it detected fire within 0.09 seconds and extinguished within 5 seconds. Hence, the UV flame detector can be applied in automatic fire suppression system for automobiles.
중학생의 인터넷 중독과 학교생활 적응 및 민주시민의식과의 관계

As personal computers and Internet have become widely popular, our lives have been changing with the increasing effect of them. The development of Internet gives benefits on our lives in that we could access to information rapidly and accurately. However, Internet has side effect, called “Internet addiction”. Internet addiction is defined as a symptom that Internet users have problems on daily life, social life, mental and physical health, and finance using Internet too much. Especially, adolescents using Internet longer than adult have these problems. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find out what extent of the Internet addiction is and examine the relationship between the middle school students' Internet addiction and adaptability of school life and democratic citizenship. In order to analyze their relationship, questionnaires on Internet addiction, adaptability of school life and democratic citizenship are composed. 400 middle school students in the Seoul are randomly sampled. Collected data by the questionnaires are analyzed by various statistical methods such as frequency, χ², t-test, one-way ANOVA, ANCOVA, stepwise multiple regression. According to the results of the survey, First, 44.2% of subjects show the symptoms of Internet addiction. students making bad marks at school and a door-key students show Internet addiction Second, the lower grade, the higher marks at school and the higher standard of living, the more positive and affirmative of adaptability of school life. the lower grade and the higher marks at school, the higher democratic citizenship. Third, significant differences are found in the scores of adaptability of school life between Internet addicted students and non-Internet addicted students. That is, Internet addicted students show lower scores than non-Internet addicted students. Fourth, significant differences are also found in the scores of democratic citizenship between Internet addicted studentsand non-Internet addicted students. That is, Internet addicted students show lower scores than non-Internet addicted students. In conclusions, Internet addicted students don't adapt school life and have a low democratic citizenship. Namely Internetaddiction have a negative effect on adaptability of school life and democratic citizenship. In order for Internet to be properly established, it is necessary to develop education program and conduct campaign to change the current Internet culture.

<P>The steroid hormone ecdysone has a central role in the developmental transitions of insects through its control of responsive protein-coding and microRNA (miRNA) gene expression. However, the complete regulatory network controlling the expression of these genes remains to be elucidated. In this study, we performed cross-linking immunoprecipitation coupled with deep sequencing of endogenous Argonaute 1 (Ago1) protein, the core effector of the miRNA pathway, in Drosophila S2 cells. We found that regulatory interactions between miRNAs and their cognate targets were substantially altered by Ago1 in response to ecdysone signaling. Additionally, during the larva-to-adult metamorphosis, miR-252-5p was up-regulated via the canonical ecdysone-signaling pathway. Moreover, we provide evidence that miR-252-5p targets Abelson interacting protein (Abi) to decrease the protein levels of cyclins A and B, controlling the cell cycle. Overall, our data suggest a potential role for the ecdysone/miR-252-5p/Abi regulatory axis partly in cell-cycle control during metamorphosis in Drosophila.Lim, D.-H., Lee, S., Han, J. <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Improving cycle performance and rate-capability of lithium ion batteries is necessary in moving toward their use in electric vehicles. Working towards this goal, we propose an amorphous Li-Zr-O coating on the surface of a high-Ni layered transition metal oxide (LiNi<SUB>0.8</SUB>Co<SUB>0.1</SUB>Mn<SUB>0.1</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>) <I>via</I> a simple wet process. By using residual Li on the surface of as-prepared LiNi<SUB>0.8</SUB>Co<SUB>0.1</SUB>Mn<SUB>0.1</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> particles as a Li source, a non-stoichiometric Li-Zr-O compound can be successfully formed on the surface of LiNi<SUB>0.8</SUB>Co<SUB>0.1</SUB>Mn<SUB>0.1</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> particles at a low temperature of 400 °C. The formation of an amorphous Li-Zr-O layer is beneficial in minimizing undesirable side reactions associated with residual Li at the surface and, by extension, improving the cycle performance and rate-capability of LiNi<SUB>0.8</SUB>Co<SUB>0.1</SUB>Mn<SUB>0.1</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB>. The amorphous Li-Zr-O coated LiNi<SUB>0.8</SUB>Co<SUB>0.1</SUB>Mn<SUB>0.1</SUB>O<SUB>2</SUB> exhibits a high reversible capacity of more than 190 mAh g<SUP>−1</SUP> with improved cycle performance.
