Antioxidant Activities and Total Phenolic Contents of Three Legumes

Legumes have been important components of the human diet. They contain not only protein, starch, and dietary fiber, but also various phenolic compounds such as flavonoids and phenolic acids. The importance of phenolic compounds to human health is well known due to their antioxidant activities. In this study, three legumes (adzuki beans, common beans, and black soybeans) frequently cultivated in Korea were evaluated for their total phenolic content (TPC) and antioxidant activities using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl), ABTS (2,2′-azinobis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline 6-sulfonate)), and FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant potential) assays. In addition, correlations between agricultural traits and antioxidant activities of these three legumes were analyzed. Antioxidant activities assessed by DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP assays and TPC showed wide variations among legumes types and accessions. Among the three legumes, adzuki beans showed higher TPC and antioxidant activity than the other two legumes. In correlation analysis, seed size showed negative correlations with antioxidant activities and TPC. In principal component analysis and hierarchical clustering analysis, each of the three legumes was clearly separate. Results of this study can be used as basic information for developing functional materials for each legume. They can also help us understand the overall antioxidant activity of the three legumes.
변분 원리를 응용한 타에 부착된 Post-Swirl Fin의 최적 설계에 관한 연구

This study treats an application of variational principle to the design of post swirl fins which develop additional thrust from propeller slip stream. The design problem is formulated with the vortex lattice lifting line representation of the components so that the power absorbed by a propeller is minimized with the thrust generated by the propeller and fin given by a prescribed value. The optimum circulation distribution of each component is determined by solving a resulting discrete variational problem. The interactions between the two components are considered in circumferentially averaged velocity field calculation at one component location induced by the other one. The procedure is first applied to the determination of the optimum single propeller loading distribution and compared with the Lerbs solution in open water configuration. The developed method is then applied to the design of the propeller and post-swirl fins attached to rudder for a VLCC. To verify the velocity field calculations, flow measurement is conducted behind a propeller. Finally self propulsion tests are carried out to estimate the efficiency increase by the fins. The result proves the validity of the design procedure.

There are variable unexpectable errors because of wireless channel which is different from wired channel. In order to distinguish various error factor, this paper is proposed to use Mac parameters. Mac Parameter is able to distinguish channel states such as interference, congestion, signal decrement.

This paper describes the design of a four-axis force/torque sensor with PSPBs (Parallel Step Plate Beams). The sensor is composed of eight PSPBs, a force/torque transmitting block, and fixing blocks. It is designed by using the FEM(Finite Element Method), and fabricated by using strain gages. The characteristic tests of the sensor are carried out, and the interference error, repeatability error, and non-linearity error are less than 2.21%, 0.03% and 0.03%. Furthermore, the structure of the four-axis force/torque sensor with PSPBs has a larger rated capacity than that of the four-axis force/torque sensor with PPBs under the same overall sensor size and the same rated output. It is thought that the developed four-axis force/torque sensor with PSPBs can be used for measuring the forces and torques in an intelligent robot, automation devices, etc.
고속 움직임 예측을 위한 움직임 적응적 손실성 엄격 다단계 연속 제거 알고리즘

본 논문에서는 고속 움직임 예측(Fast Motion Estimation)방법의 일종인 다단계 연속 제거 알고리즘(MSEA : Multi-level Successive Elimination Algorithm)에 움직임의 역동성 정도를 고려하여 적응적인 가중치를 적용하는 방안에 대해 제안하였다. 움직임을 예측하는 과정에서 영상의 화질 손상이 발생하는 방식(Lossy Motion Estimation Algorithm)에서 모든 단위 블록(Macro Block)에 고정된 가중치만을 적용하는 기존의 방식과 달리 주위 블록의 움직임 벡터(Motion Vector)를 통해 움직임의 정도를 가정하여 적응적인 가중치를 적용함으로써 화질 손상을 줄이는 것이 목적이다. 제안하는 알고리즘으로 설계한 실험으로부터 MSEA에 적응적 가중치를 사용할 경우의 효율성을 확인하였다.

This paper describes the design of a smart three-axis force sensor for measuring forces Fx, Fy and Fz. The smart three-axis force sensor is composed of a three-axis force sensor, a force-measuring device, housing and a cover, where the three-axis force sensor and the force-measuring device are inside the housing and the cover. The measuring device measures forces Fx, Fy and Fz from the three-axis force sensor, and calculates the resultant force using the measured forces, and then sends the resultant force and forces to a PC or other controller using RS-485 communication. The repeatability error and the non-linearity error of the smart threeaxis force sensor are less than 0.03%, and the interference error of the sensor is less than 0.87%. It is thought that the sensor can be used for measuring forces in a robot, automatic systems and so on.
