A New Approach for Time-dependent Cancer Volatiles Profiling via Isotope-labeling

While extensive research has been done on cancer detection using volatile biomarkers, the intracellular biochemical processes for the origin of biomarkers have not been fully elucidated. These limitations interrupt practical application of volatile biomarkers. Therefore, we developed a metabolism tracking method utilizing isotope labeling and flux analysis to overcome this problem. This novel method allows us to track intracellular volatiles and clarify their association with cancer metabolism. In this study, the carbon isotope ratio of <SUP>13</SUP>C-labeled lung cancer cell was measured using NanoSIMS-based imaging. The kinetic modeling of time-dependent isotopic ratio deduced the duration of cancer cell reaching a steady state of metabolism, at which point all potential intracellular volatiles are completely replaced by isotopes. In addition, by measuring the enrichment of isotopes in volatiles, it was revealed that 2-pentadecanone is derived from the fatty acid synthesis starting from glucose. Moreover, it was confirmed that this metabolic pathway is upregulated in cancer cells such as colon cancer, breast cancer, and pancreatic cancer compared to normal cells. These results indicate that this new method will be an effective strategy for tracing the origin of cancer volatiles and understanding intracellular metabolic pathways.
A case report : ovarian torsion of Brenner tumor

Introduction: Borderline Brenner tumor of the ovary is a rare entity characterized by papillary structures with a fibro-vascular core, covered by a transitional epithelium, and by the absence of stromal infiltration. It is associated, by definition, with a benign component of Brenner tumor. We introduced a case about ovarian torsion of Brenner tumor. Material&method: A fifty-one years old women came to emergency room. Her chief complain was continous lower abd. pain since 3 days ago. She has 2 babies. Her menstrual cycle finished 1 years ago. She has Diabetes mellitus and hypertension. The CT scanning was compared prior CT imagings that was taken 4 years ago. There was a calcified solid mass on Rt. ovary in prior CT, About 13x10x10cm-sized well defined multiseptated cystic lesion was added on this mass. There was small amount ascites. There was a twisted ovarian pedicle on inferior portion of mass. About 7.3x9.6x8.6cm-sized well defined mass was on Lt. adnexa. The upper portion of Rt. mass was cystic portion, and the lower portion was solid mass. There was small Lymph node on Lt. paraaortic region. It seemed the reactive lesion. The beta-hcg level was below 1.20. The AFP level was 2.32. The CEA level was 2.0. The CA19-9 level was below 2.00. The CA125 level was 20.2. After low midline incision was made. Entering abdominal cavity, the uterus was normal. Both ovary cyst was seen and The Rt. ovary was twisted for 3 times. Bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy was done. The result of frozen biopsy was both brenner tumor. Result: The pathologist's conclusion was Brenner tumor originated from both ovaries. and Ovarian cystic fluid was no definite malignant tumor cells present. Her symptom such as severe abdominal pain was disappeared after surgery. Conclusion:Further investigation is required to determine whether associated Brenner tumors found during frozen section are more highly associated with malignancy and could therefore change intraop-erative and overall decision making.
A New Synthetic Route for Silacyclopropanes: Reactions of a Bromosilylenoid with Olefins

<P>Stable 1-bromo-1-silacyclopropanes were synthesized in high yields from the reaction of the stable bromotrisylsilylenoid <B>1</B> (trisyl = C(SiMe<SUB>3</SUB>)<SUB>3</SUB>) with olefins such as styrene, trimethylvinylsilane, triethylvinylsilane, and dimethylphenylvinylsilane, a new synthetic route for silacyclopropanes. The structure of bromosilacyclopropane <B>5</B> was confirmed by X-ray analysis. In the presence of excess MeOH the phenyl-substituted bromosilacyclopropane <B>2</B> underwent regioselective ring opening to give the corresponding product <B>6</B>. In contrast, the reaction of silyl-substituted bromosilacyclopropane <B>5</B> with MeOH gave only the product of nucleophilic substitution at the silicon atom, 1-methoxy-1-silacyclopropane <B>7</B>, without any ring opening. 본 연구에서는 추력 650 kgf 급의 PE/N2O 하이브리드 로켓 모터의 지상 연소시험을 수행하였다. 초기 실험에서 산화제 유량이 작게 유입됨으로 인해 연소실 압력 및 추력이 설계치 만큼 확보되지 못함을 확인 하였다. 이를 보완하기 위해 노즐목 감소 및 산화제 유량을 증대하여 실험을 수행하였고, 실험에서 발생하는 연소현상을 분석하였다. 또한 sub-scale과 lab-scale의 실험결과를 통해 scale에 따른 연소특성 변화를 비교? 분석 하였고, 동일 산화제 유속에서 sub-scale의 후퇴율이 lab-scale의 후퇴율보다 차이는 작지만 낮게 나타남을 확인했다. 본 연구의 결과를 통해 실제 하이브리드 사운딩 로켓 개발을 위해 고려되어야 할 사항을 파악할 수 있었다. In this study, we presented the results of static firing tests on the PE/LN2O hybrid rocket motor, which has a thrust of 650 kgf level. Through the early tests, we found that the combustion chamber pressure and the thrust were lower than design values because an actual oxidizer flow rate was less than that expected. In order to complement this result, the methods of decrease of nozzle throat and the increase of oxidizer mass flow rate were conducted in the next experiment, and we studied the combustion phenomena with the experimental results. Also we compared and analyzed a difference of combustion characteristics on scale effect. It show that a sub-scale motor regression rate was a little less than that of a lab-scale motor with the same oxidizer mass flux. Results of this study might be used as a basic data for development of hybrid sounding rocket.

하이브리드 로켓에서 파라핀계 연료의 연소 특성을 HDPE 연료와 비교하였다. 순수 파라핀 왁스를 사용한 경우 후퇴율은 HDPE에 비해 12.1배로 매우 빠른 후퇴율을 보였으나 특성 속도는 매우 낮았다. 순수 파라핀에 10 wt%의 LDPE를 블렌딩한 연료의 경우 순수 파라핀에 비해 후퇴율이 감소한 반면 HDPE에 비해서는 3.5배로 빠른 후퇴율을 보이면서도 특성속도는 증가되었다. 이를 통해 순수 파라핀에 폴리머계 연료를 블렌딩함으로써 연소 효율을 개선할 수 있음을 확인하였다. Combustion characteristics of the paraffin-based hybrid rocket fuel were compared with HDPE fuel. Regression rate of the pure paraffin wax was increased 12.1 times, but characteristic velocity was lower than HDPE. In case of parafffin fuel with 10%wt LDPE, regression rate was lower than pure paraffin wax, but regression rate compare with HDPE was increased 3.5 times and characteristic velocity was increased. According to these results, it was confirmed that blending of polymeric fuel improves combustion efficiency.
PMMA 연료를 적용한 Multi-Port 하이브리드 로켓의 포트 병합특성에 관한 연구

본 연구에서는 Multi-Port 그레인의 PE, PMMA 연료와 GOX 산화제를 적용한 하이브리드 로켓의 연소 특성과 연소가 진행됨에 따라 이루어지는 연료 포트 병합에 따른 연소 특성을 연구하였다. 연료 내부로의 열전도와 연소실 압력의 증가로 인해 Multi-Port 연료의 후퇴율이 Single-Port 연료의 후퇴율보다 높으며, 연료 포트 병합으로 인한 연소 면적의 급격한 변화가 연소 성능에 영향을 끼침을 확인하였다. An experimental investigation was conducted to clarify the combustion characteristics and merge characteristics of PMMA-GOX and PE-GOX hybrid motor using multi-port fuel grain configuration. The regression rate of multi-port fuel grain is higher than the regression rate of single-port fuel grain by thermal conduction and chamber pressure. The merge of multi-port has an effect on hybrid rocket performance by change of a combustion area.
