        이매방 살풀이춤의 ‘여형화(女形化)’에 대한 논의

        우리는 이매방의 춤을 이야기할 때 ‘아름답다’, ‘교태적이다’, ‘농염하다’라고 표현한다. 이러한 수사(修辭)는 그의 춤이 다분히 여성적인 속성을 갖고 있기 때문에 붙여진 것이다. 본 연구는 이매방의 살풀이춤이 여형화의 양식체계로 구축되어 있음을 논의하였다. 춤에서 ‘여형화’란 남성이 여성의 모습으로 춤을 추는 형식, 혹은 양식이라고 할수 있다. 이매방의 춤은 다음과 같은 여형화의 특성을 보인다. 첫째, 이매방의 살풀이춤은 경극의 ‘화단’이나 가부키의 ‘게이세이’와 같이 화려하고 교태스런 배역 특성을 보인다. 둘째, 살풀이춤의 복식은 남성과 여성의 구분을 두고 있으되 상당히 장식적인 여성성을 지향하고 있다. 셋째, 이매방의 양성 지향적인 성 정체성은 탐미적인 미의식으로 확장되어 여형화 된 춤 양식 체계로 환원되었다. 넷째, 이매방 살풀이춤의 기법은 가공된 여성의 신체상을 기반으로 구축되었다. 즉, 응축된 근육의 밀도 높은 작용을 통해 신체를 ‘축소’하거나 ‘왜곡’하여 관능적이고 요염한 여성성을 신체상으로 구현하여 춤에 반영하였다. 이상으로 미루어 이매방 살풀이춤은 남성이 추는 여성의 춤, 혹은 기방춤을 전형 특성의 하나로 구축하고 있다고 하겠다. When we talk about Lee Mae-bang's Salpul-i chum, we use the expressions ‘beautiful’, ‘exciting’, and ‘congested’. This knowledge was attached because his dance has a feminine attribute. This study discussed that Lee Mae-bang's Salpul-i chum is constructed as Yeohyeonghwa's aquaculture system. First, Lee Mae-bang's Salpul-i chum exhibits gorgeous and cunning character, such as Peking Opera's 'Huā dàn' or Kabuki's 'Keisei'. In dance[chum], ‘Yeohyeonghwa’ can be said to be a form or style in which men dance in the form of women. Lee Mae-bang's dance shows the following characteristics of Yeohyeonghwa. Second, Salpul-i chum's costumes differentiate between men and women, but aim for a highly decorative femininity. Third, Lee Mae-bang's bisexual sexual identity has been stylized into a feminine attitude through aesthetic pursuit. Fourth, Lee Mae-bang Salpul-i chum's technique expresses the processed female body image. In other words, Salpul-i chum expresses the body of a sensual and fascinating woman by 'shrinking' or 'distorting' the body through the dense action of condensed muscles. In this regard, Lee Mae-bang is said to be constructing a male dance or gibangchum as one of the characteristics of Jeonhyeong[original form].

        Antioxidant and anti‑inflammatory effects in lipopolysaccharide‑induced THP‑1 cells of coumarins from the bark of Hesperethusa crenulata R.

        All parts of Thanakha (Hesperethusa crenulata R.) have been used as traditional skin care herbal material in Myanmar. In this study, coumarins from H. crenulata R. bark were isolated through solvent extraction, systematic solvent fractionation, and repeated column chromatography. Spectroscopic analyses using ESI–MS, 1D NMR (1H and 13C), 2D NMR (gHSQC and gHMBC), specific rotation, circular dichroism, and IR spectrometry revealed three coumarins 2R-7-hydroxy-8-(2,3-dihydroxy-3-methylbutyl)-coumarin (compound 1), peucedanol (compound 2), and methylpeucedanol (compound 3), which were first isolated from Thanakha tree. Antioxidant capacities of three coumarins decreased as follows: compound 2 > compound 3 > compound 1. Treatments of lipopolysaccharide-induced THP-1 human monocytic cells with compounds 2 and 3 at 378.8 μM and 359.7 μM inhibited tumor necrosis factor-α production by approximately 32.7% and 13.3%, respectively, compared with the negative control. In summary, these results suggest that Thanakha bark extracts can be used as a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory source for cosmetic ingredients.

      • P-130 Inhibition of autophagy by Rubicon in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis

        Background: Autophagy is catabolic process used to degrade and recycle proteins and organelles for cell survival. It is well known that dysregulated autophagy impacts the pathogenesis of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). We investigated the role of Rubicon (RUN domain-containing Beclin1-interacting protein) in IPF, which is a negative regulator of autophagosome maturation and endocytic pathway. Methods: We used Western blot to assess protein expression in lung tissue of IPF patients and MRC-5 (fibroblast) & BEAS-2B (epithelial cells) cells treated with 5μg/ml TGF-β1. We performed immunoprecipitation (IP) with Rubicon antibody to evaluate the interaction of UVRAG and Rab7. Rubicon was down-regulated using siRNA to assess its role in MRC-5 & BEAS-2B cells. Results: The levels of Rubicon was significantly increased in lung tissues of IPF patients compared with those of normal lung. Interestingly, the expression of Rubicon was higher in lung tissue of IPF non-survivors than in those of survivors. Treatment with TGF-β1 for 2 h increased the level of Rubicon and recruited UVRAG and Rab7 into Rubicon in MRC-5 & BEAS-2B cells. The Rubicon siRNA reduced increased expression levels of collagen & α-SMA treated with TGF-β1 in BEAS-2B & MRC-5 cells. Conclusion: We found that Rubicon was increased in tissues from IPF patients and MRC-5 & BEAS-2B cells treated with by TGF-βb1, which may contribute to suppression of autophagy in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

      • Protective role of <small>L</small>-2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid in cisplatin-induced renal injury

        <P><B>Background.</B> Oxidative stress and inflammation are implicated in the pathogenesis of cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity. <SMALL>L</SMALL>-2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid (OTC) is a cysteine prodrug, and increases cellular glutathione (GSH). OTC is converted to cysteine by the intracellular enzyme, oxoprolinase. To date, the protective role of OTC on cisplatin-induced renal injury has not been investigated. The purpose of the present study was to examine the protective effect of OTC on cisplatin-induced renal injury and to examine the mechanism of its protection.</P><P><B>Methods.</B> Mice were treated with cisplatin with or without administration of OTC. The generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), expression of intercellular adhesion molecule (ICAM)-1 and monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP)-1 were determined in the kidney using 2′,7′-dichlorofluorescein diacetate, immunostaining or western blot analysis. Nuclear factor (NF)-κB activity, infiltration of F4/80-positive cells and apoptosis were also investigated in addition to renal function and histology using electrophoretic mobility shift assay, immunostaining, western blot analysis, uridine triphosphate (dUTP) nick-end labelling or periodic acid–Schiff staining. The effect of OTC on superoxide dismutase activity and GSH level in cisplatin-treated normal adult human kidney (HK-2) cells were measured using assay kits.</P><P><B>Results.</B> The administration of OTC resulted in a significant reduction of cisplatin-induced ROS production, the p65 subunit of NF-κB translocation into nucleus, expression of ICAM-1, caspase 3 activity, expression of MCP-1 and the infiltration of macrophages into renal tissue. OTC markedly ameliorated renal damage induced by cisplatin through antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect.</P><P><B>Conclusions.</B> These results suggest that OTC can be a potential therapeutic agent in cisplatin-induced renal injury through decreasing the ROS levels and activation of NF-κB.</P>

        Development of Context-Aware Power Management Scheme Using Beacons

        In this paper, we propose a context-aware power management (CPM) scheme using beacons to reduce the power consumption of personal computers (PCs). In the proposed CPM scheme, the PC, smartphone, control server, and Internet of Things (IoT) device are necessary. PC users first log in the control server using their smartphones and select PCs to turn on. Then, the selected PCs automatically go into three different modes, i.e., sleep, shutdown, and standby power off modes, in order when the PC users leave the PCs without turning off them. Further, we develop a testbed with the proposed CPM scheme using the Arduino with Bluetooth low energy (BLE) and relay modules. Finally, it is shown that the proposed CPM scheme outperforms the conventional scheme in terms of the power consumption.

        A report of 42 unrecorded actinobacterial species in Korea

        During a study to discover indigenous prokaryotic species in Korea in 2016, a total of 42 actinobacterial isolates were recovered from various environmental samples collected from natural cave, squid, sewage, sea water, trees, droppings of birds, freshwater, eelgrass, mud flat, sediment and soil. On the basis of a tight phylogenetic clade with the closest species and high level of 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity, it was shown that each isolate was assigned to independent and previously described bacterial species which were assigned to the phylum Actinobacteria. The following 42 species have not been reported in Korea: eight species in two genera n the order Corynebacteriales, 26 species of 16 genera in the Micrococcales, one species of one genus in the Micromonosporales, one species of one genus in the Propionibacteriales, four species of two genera in the Streptomycetales and two species of two genera in the Streptosporangiale. Cell morphology, Gram staining reaction, colony colors and features, the media and conditions of incubation, physiological and biochemical characteristics, origins of isolation and strain IDs of 42 unrecorded actinobacterial species are presented in the species description.

        A study on nanoparticle filtration characteristics of multilayer meltblown depth filters

        Due to recent development in nanotechnology and increasing usage and production of nanomaterials, numerous studies related to environment, sanitation and safety handling of nanoparticle are being conducted. Since nanoparticles can be easily absorbed into human bodies through breathing process, based on their toxic substances and their large specific surface, these particles can cause serious health damage. Therefore, to reduce nanoparticle emissions, nanofiltration technology is becoming a serious issue. Filtration is a separation process during which a fluid passes through a barrier by removing the particles from the stream. Barrier filters can be made of various materials and shapes. One of the most common type of barrier filter is the fibrous filter. Fibrous filters are divided in two types: nonwoven and woven fabrics. Polypropylene is a thermoplastic material, used as a base material for melt blown nonwoven fabric. In this study, we examined filtration property of KCl nanoparticles with a mean particle diameter of 75 nm using multilayer meltblown filter samples. These experiments verify that the penetration of nanoparticle in the filter correlate with pressure drop; the meltblown layer MB1 has the greatest effect on dust collection efficiency of the filter. Among all tested samples, dust collection efficiency of 2-layer filter was best. However, when considering the overall pressure drop and dust collection efficiency, the 4-layer filter has the highest quality factor for particles smaller than 70 nm.

        Designing Tyrosinase siRNAs by Multiple Prediction Algorithms and Evaluation of Their Anti-Melanogenic Effects

        Melanin is a pigment produced from tyrosine in melanocytes. Although melanin has a protective role against UVB radiationinduced damage, it is also associated with the development of melanoma and darker skin tone. Tyrosinase is a key enzyme in melanin synthesis, which regulates the rate-limiting step during conversion of tyrosine into DOPA and dopaquinone. To develop effective RNA interference therapeutics, we designed a melanin siRNA pool by applying multiple prediction programs to reduce human tyrosinase levels. First, 272 siRNAs passed the target accessibility evaluation using the RNAxs program. Then we selected 34 siRNA sequences with ΔG ≥-34.6 kcal/mol, i-Score value ≥65, and siRNA scales score ≤30. siRNAs were designed as 19-bp RNA duplexes with an asymmetric 3’ overhang at the 3’ end of the antisense strand. We tested if these siRNAs effectively reduced tyrosinase gene expression using qRT-PCR and found that 17 siRNA sequences were more effective than commercially available siRNA. Three siRNAs further tested showed an effective visual color change in MNT-1 human cells without cytotoxic effects, indicating these sequences are anti-melanogenic. Our study revealed that human tyrosinase siRNAs could be efficiently designed using multiple prediction algorithms.
