        The β₃-adrenergic receptor is expressed in visceral adipose tissue in humans and is thought to contribute to the regulation of the resting metabolic rate and lipolysis. We studied the influence of a mutation in the β₃ -adrenergic receptor gene(Trp64Arg) on body fat distribution, central obesity, lipid metabolism in 65 healthy young male adults. One out of 65 subjects were homozygous (Arg/Arg) for the trp64Arg mutation, 17 subjects were heterozygous (Trp/Arg), and 47 lacked the mutation(Trp/Trp). The body weight, height, body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio were similar between the subjects with- and without the mutation. Total body fat, abdominal fat amount, body fat distribution, serum total- and HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose, and insulin concentrations were also not different according to the presence or absence of the mutation. These results suggested that Trp64Arg mutation in β₃-adrenergic receptor gene is not a major contributing factor for central obesity or change in lipid metabolism in Korean young adults.

        Metagenomic Analysis of Fungal Communities Inhabiting the Fairy Ring Zone of Tricholoma matsutake

        Tricholoma matsutake, an ectomycorrhiza that has mutual relationships with the rootlet of Pinus denisflora, forms a fruiting body that serves as a valuable food in Asia. However, the artificial culture of this fungus has not been successful. Soil fungi, including T. matsutake, coexist with many other microorganisms and plants; therefore, complex microbial communities have an influence on the fruiting body formation of T. matsutake. Here, we report on the structures of fungal communities associated with the fairy ring of T. matsutake through the pyrosequencing method. Soil samples were collected inside the fairy ring zone, in the fairy ring zone, and outside the fairy ring zone. A total of 37,125 sequencing reads were obtained and 728 to 1,962 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were observed in the sampling zones. The fairy ring zone had the lowest OTUs and the lowest fungal diversity of all sampling zones. The number of OTUs and fungal taxa inside and outside the fairy ring zone was, respectively, about 2 times and 1.5 times higher than the fairy ring. Taxonomic analysis showed that each sampling zone has different fungal communities. In particular, out of 209 genera total, 6 genera in the fairy ring zone, such as Hemimycena, were uniquely present and 31 genera, such as Mycena, Boletopsis, and Repetophragma, were specifically absent. The results of metagenomic analysis based on the pyrosequencing indicate a decrease of fungal communities in the fairy ring zone and changes of fungal communities depending on the fairy ring growth of T. matsutake.

        야뇨증 환아들의 심리사회적 특성에 대한 다기관 연구 : 행동 및 정서 문제를 중심으로

        Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the behavioral and emotional problems associated with nocturnal enuresis in Korean children. Methods : Three hundred eighteen children with nocturnal enuresis, together with their parents, completed the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), Disruptive Behavior Disorder Scale according to DSM-IV (DBDS), Children's Depression Inventory (CDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC), and Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale (PHCSC). Ninety-three normal students were selected as the control group. Results : Compared to the normal control group, the mean scores with regard to the withdrawn, social problems, attention problems, delinquent behavior, aggressive behavior, externalizing problems and total problems profiles were significantly higher in the nocturnal enuresis group according to the CBCL results. The nocturnal enuresis group also scored significantly higher in the ADHD and ODD profiles of the DBDS. The nocturnal enuresis group was more depressed and anxious than the control group according to the results of the CDI and STAI. The mean score of the PHCSC was significantly lower in the nocturnal enuresis group when compared to the normal control group. Conclusion : The results of this study suggest that children with nocturnal enuresis in Korea have clinically relevant behavioral and emotional problems. The findings support the link between nocturnal enuresis and psychopathology in Korean children.

      • 5-Fluorouracil로 유발된 백서후지의 선천성 기형

        To study the teratogenic mechanism of 5-fluorouracil on the developing rat hindlimbs and to reveal the congenital anomalies induced by 5-FU, 25mg/kg of 5-fluorouracil was injected intramuscularly into S-D rats on gestational day 10.5. The rats were sacrificed under ether anesthesia on gestational day 11.5, 12.5, 13.5, 14.5, 15.5, 16.5 and 17.5. The whole uterine horns were removed for observing the congenital anomalies of the hindlimbs with stereoscope. Some fetuses were fixed by the neutral buffered formalin solution for LM exmination and some hindlimbs were fixed by 2.5% glutaraldehyde solution for TEM and SEM examination. After routine processing, LM and TEM examination were performed. The results were as follows ; 1. The mean survival rate of 5-fluorouracil-treated rat fetuses was decreased sign ificantly(p<0.01) compared with that of the control group. 2. The mean body weight of the 5-fluorouracil-treated rat fetuses on gestaticnal day 17.5 was significantly lower (p<0.01) than that of the control group. 3. The congenital anomalies on the hindlimbs of the rat fetuses were 4 digit, short digit, 3 digit, and 2 digit anomalies in that order. These anomalies occured moreon the right limb about 2.6 times than on the left limb. 4. On LM and TEM examination, 5-fluorouracil injured the apical ectodermal ridge epithelial cells and mesenchymal cells of hindlimb bud initially, but, this recovered around gestational day 14.5. According to the above results, 5-fluorouracil-induced congenital anomalies of the hindlimbs of rat fetuses may be caused by injury to the apical ectodermal ridge epithelial cells of limb bud. Apical ectodermal ridge epithelial cells that have recovered from injury around gestational day 14.5 may elicit changed information of abnormal patterning and differentiation into the underlying mesenchymal cells in progress zone, and the various digital anomalies, such as oligodactyly and short digit anomalies will be resulted.

      • 적응 등화기에서 데이터-재사용 LMS 알고리즘을 이용한 신호 간섭 제어

        적응 등화기에서 LMS 알고리즘의 수렴 속도를 개선하기 위한 데이터 재순환 버퍼 구조를 제안한다. 폐기된 수신 데이터를 재활용함으로서 심볼 시간 주기에 적응 등화기의 에러를 이용한 가중치 갱신을 통해 제안된 알고리즘의 수렴특성을 분석하여 수렴 속도가 향상됨을 보인다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 결과를 통해 스텝-크기 매개변수 μ가 증가됨에 따라 알고리즘의 수렴 속도가 상응하게 감소하고 또한, 스텝 크기 매개변수 μ의 증가는 실험적으로 계산된 학습 곡선에서 평균 자승 에러를 감소시키는 효과를 갖는다. 고유치 확산을 감소시킴에 따라 적응 등화기의 수렴속도를 천천히 감소시키고 평균 자승 에러의 안정-상태 값을 증가시키는 효과를 나타낸다. 따라서, 제안된 데이터 재순환 버퍼를 이용한 LMS 알고리즘의 수렴 특성을 개선시키고 계산의 복잡도를 증가시키지 않으면서 수렴속도를 (B+1)배만큼 증가시킨다는 것을 보인다. 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션 결과는 최악의 스텝 크기 매개변수와 고유치 확산 영역에 따른 평균 자승 에러를 분석하고 필터 알고리즘에서 신호간섭제어가 우수함을 입증한다. Data-recycling buffer structure to improve the convergence speed of LMS algorithm in adaptive equalizer is proposed. The improvement of convergence speed is shown by analyzing convergence characteristics of the proposed algorithm through updating weight using the error of adaptive equalizer when coefficients are multiply adapted in a symbol time period. As the step-size parameter μ is increased, the rate of convergence of the algorithm is correspondingly decreased through computer simulation result. Also, increasing the step-size parameter μ has the effect of reducing the variation in the experimentally computed learning curve. Reducing the eigenvalue spread has the effect of slowing down the rate of convergence of the adaptive equalizer and also increasing the steady-state value of the average squared error. Accordingly, the analysis shows that convergence speed can increase by (B+1) times, where B is the number of recycled data, as improving of convergence characteristics using the data-recycling buffer and not increasing complex of computation. The results of the computer simulation demonstrate analyzing mean squared error in accordance with the worst step-size parameter and eigenvalue spread and the superiority of signal interference control in the filter algorithm.

      • High Performance Liquid Chromatography를 이용한 Hemoglobin A1C 측정

        Hemoglobin AIc(HbAlc) has been known to be an index of long-term glycemic control (6-8weeks), and offers several practical advantages for screening of diabetes mellitus and evaluation of effects of treatment. Authors introduced to measure and investigate HbAlc levels by high performance liquid chromatoraphy (HPLC ; LDC Milton Roy, USA), with cation exchange column, Mono S HR 5/5 (Pharmacia). The results were as follows; 1. The mean HbAlc level in normal adult control group (n=50) was 4.13±0.25% (Mean±S.D). 2. Within-run precisions of HbAlc levels measured by HPLC were 4.39±0.01% (Mean±S.D.), 1.41(C.V.) in normal control, and 8.95±0.02% (Mean±S.D.), 1.65(C.V.) in intermittently treated diabetic patients, and 11.02±0.01% (Mean±S.D.) 2.93(C.V.) in untreated diabetic patients. 3. Between-run precision of HbAlc levels measured by HPLC were 4.35±0.01% (Mean±S.D.), 2.76(C.V.) in normal control, and 8.98±0.01% (Mean±S.D.), 1.22(C.V.) in intermittently treated diabetic patients, and 10.95±0.15% (Mean±S.D.), 3.51(C.V.) in untreated patients. 4. The peak level of HbAlc was obtained in about 9 minutes and the whole program could be completed within 17 minutes. 5. Blood specimens could be stored for as long as 8 days at 4℃ without changes of HbAlc levels. These results suggest that the measurement of HbAlc by HPLC using cation exchange column is so accurate, simple and rapid that the clinical use is more wider.

      • Austenite Stainless鋼의 高溫强度및 破壞擧動에 관한 硏究(Ⅰ) : Creep 强度와 破壞擧動에 관하여 Creep Strength and Fracture Behavior

        Austenite stainless steel 년 316 has heat treated to austenite structure by heating at 1100℃ for 1hr and suddenly cooling. These specimens has been dealed with aging treatment at 700℃ for 0hr, 2hr, 10hr, and 100hr separately, and then conducted by creep test on the uniaxial state of stress in atmosphere of 600℃. The experimental results are obtained as follows. 1) Creep rupture stain rate has increased by the increasing of aging time. 2) Creep rupture time have had large affect of aging time comparing with 0hr aging specimen and increased by 20%, 40%, and 60% separately for 2hr, 10hr, and 100hr aging specimen. The empirical formulas of creep rupture time "t" as follows. (aging time are in parenthesis) t?=2.297×10? t?=8.810×10? t?=2.951×10? t?=1.178×10? 3) Creep constant "n" has increased, "k" decreased and creep limit increased by increasing the aging time. Then creep strain rate has decreased and increased by increasing the aging time and stress. The empirical formulas as follows. ε?=3.326×10? ε?=1.905×10? ε?=1.347×10? ε?=3.465×10? 4) The creep strain rate multiplied by creep rupture time has constant value according to property of material and belongs to the range of parallel line at logarithmic graph paper. 5) Hardness has increased by the increasing of aging time and intergranular hardness is higher than transgranular hardness. 6) The micro cracks occur from wedge crack and cavitation crack at grain boundary and exist at the surface of specimen and the surface of longitudnal section. 7) High stress and aging specimens have mostly wedge crack. Low stress and nonaging specimens have mostly cavitation crack. 8) Rupture surface of higher stress has shearing fracture of about 45° inclination, and has tendency of fracture by directing perpendicular to the axis for decreasing creep stress and also has same phenomenon for occurrence and propagation of crack.

        냉각 CMSMPR 결정화기에서 붕산 수용액의 결정화

        붕산수용액을 대상으로 한 냉각 CMSMPR결정화 장치계에 대하여 입자분포 및 결정화 동특성을 실험적으로 규명하였으며, 이로부터 이론적 회수량을 추정하였다. 정상상태에서의 결정입도는 지수분포를 보였으며 이로부터 결정성장속도(G)와 핵생성속도(B^o)는 각각 과포화도(S)와 부유밀도(M_T)의 관계로 표시할 수 있었다. G=6.46 × 10^(-5) S^(3.35) B^o=7.58 × 10^5 G^(0.10) M^(0.97)_T Crystal size distribution and dynamic properties were determined in cooling CMSMPR crystallization system with boric acid, while the crystallization yield was estimated based on the determined parameters. The crystal size distribution showed to be exponential at steady condition, which permitted crystal growth rate(G) and nucleation rate (B^o) to be expressed in terms of supersaturation degree(S) and suspension density (M_T) respectively; G=6.46 X 10^(-5) S^(3.35) B^o=7.58 X 10^5 G^(0.10) M^(0.97)_T
