On the Variational Approach for Analyzing the Stability of Solutions of Evolution Equations

        Abdel-Gawad, Hamdy I.,Osman, M.S. Department of Mathematics 2013 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.53 No.4

The eigenvalue problems arise in the analysis of stability of traveling waves or rest state solutions are currently dealt with, using the Evans function method. In the literature, it had been shown that, use of this method is not straightforward even in very simple examples. Here an extended "variational" method to solve the eigenvalue problem for the higher order dierential equations is suggested. The extended method is matched to the well known variational iteration method. The criteria for validity of the eigenfunctions and eigenvalues obtained is presented. Attention is focused to find eigenvalue and eigenfunction solutions of the Kuramoto-Slivashinsky and (K[p,q]) equation.

A Chemotherapy-Diffusion Model for the Cancer Treatment and Initial Dose Control

Abdel-Gawad, Hamdy Ibrahim,Saad, Khaled Mmohamed Department of Mathematics 2008 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.48 No.3

A one site chemotherapy agent-diffusion model is proposed which accounts for diffusion of chemotherapy agent, normal and cancer cells. It is shown that, by controlling the initial conditions, consequently an initial dose of the chemotherapy agent, the system is guaranteed to evolute towards a target equilibrium state. Or, growth of the normal cells occurs against decay of the cancer cells. Effects of diffusion of chemotherapy-agent and cells are investigated through numerical computations of the concentrations in square and triangular cancer sites.

Radiological hazards assessment associated with granitoid rocks in Egypt

Abdel Gawad Ahmed E.,Masoud Masoud S.,Khandaker Mayeen Uddin,Hanfi Mohamed Y. 한국원자력학회 2024 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.56 No.6

The present study aimed to assess the radioactive hazards associated with the application of granitoid rocks in building materials. An HPGe spectrometer was used to detect the levels of the radioactive elements uranium-238, thorium-232, and potassium-40 in the granitoid rocks. The results showed that the levels of these elements were lower (38.32 < 33 Bq kg 1), comparable (47.19–45 Bq kg-1) and higher (992.26 ≫> 412 Bq kg 1) than the worldwide limits for 238U, 232Th, and 40K concentration, respectively. The exposure to gamma radiation of granitoid rocks was studied by various radiological hazard variables like the absorbed dose rate (Dair), the outdoor and indoor annual effective dose (AEDout and AEDin), and excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR). A variety of statistical methods, including Pearson correlation, principal component analysis (PCA), and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) was used, to study the relationship between the radioactive elements and the radiological hazards. According to statistical analysis, the main radioactive risk of granitoid rocks is contributed to by the elements uranium-238, thorium-232, and potassium-40. Granitoid rocks can be applied in building materials, but under control to prevent risk to the public.

Assessment of radioactivity levels and radiation hazards in building materials in Egypt

        Ahmed E. Abdel Gawad,Mohamed Y. Hanfi,Mostafa N. Tawfik,Mohammed S. Alqahtani,Hamed I. Mira Korean Nuclear Society 2024 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.56 No.2

Different degrees of natural radioactivity found in quartz can have negative consequences on health. Quartz vein along the investigated Abu Ramad area, Egypt, had its natural radioactivity assessed. The HPGe spectrometer was used to determine the role played by the radionuclides 238U, 232Th, and 40K in the gamma radiation that was emitted, and the results showed that these concentrations are 484.64 ± 288.4, 36.8 ± 13.1 and 772.2 ± 134.6 Bq kg-1 were higher than the corresponding reported global limits of 33, 45, and 412 Bq kg-1 for each radionuclide (238U, 232Th, and 40K). Among the radiological hazard parameters, the excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR) is estimated and it's mean value of ELCR (1.2) is higher than the permissible limit of 0.00029. The relationship between the radionuclides and the associated radiological hazard characteristics was investigated based on multivariate statistical methods including Pearson correlation, principal component analysis (PCA), and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA). According to statistical research, the radioactive risk of quartz is primarily caused by the 238U, 232Thand 40K. Finally, applying quartz to building materials would pose a significant risk to the public.

Approximate Solutions to the Two-cell Cubic Autocatalytic Reaction Model

        H. I. Abdel-Gawad,A. M. El-Shrae 경북대학교 자연과학대학 수학과 2004 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.44 No.2

By using an approach developed by one of the authors, approximate solutions of the initial value problem for the reaction diffusion equations in two cells are obtained. The system is considered here with two chemical species, species A and the autocatalyst B. The reaction is taken to be cubic in the autocatalysis in the rst region with linear exchange through A. In the rst region, the autocatalyst is taken to decay linearly. Approximate solutions are found through the Picard iterative sequence of solutions. The space and time variations of the concentration of the species A and B are evaluated in the two regions. The oscillation of the concentrations in times has been observed in different locations. This phenomena is stepped out for relatively large times. Comparison between two consecutive solutions is made. The maximum error estimate is of order for some appropriate time period. At this time level, the solutions obtained are adequate for laboratory simulation experiments to open systems. It is observed that no initiation to travelling waves occurs whenever the initial values of the concentrations of the reactant(or the autocatalysts) are not periodic.

Impact of nano silver composite structure on cadmium neurotoxicity in albino rats

El-Sherbiny Emad Mohamed,Abdel-Gawad Eman Ismail,Osman Hala Fawzy 한국응용생명화학회 2022 Applied Biological Chemistry (Appl Biol Chem) Vol.65 No.6

The present study was planned to investigate the possible therapeutic effects of silver/hydroxyapatite nanocomposite (nAg/HAp) on neurotoxicity induced by cadmium chloride ( CdCl2) in albino rats. The nanocomposite has been formulated by a chemical route and characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray Analysis spectroscopy (EDAX). A population of rats was randomly assorted into three groups; the animals were subjected to intraperitoneal CdCl2 administration every 2 days at a dose level of 1.0 mg/kg b.wt. for 3 months while the treatment with nAg/HAp was performed via intravenous injection at a dose level of 50 mg/kg b,wt. once a week for 4 weeks. Quantitative DNA fragmentation and biochemical analysis including the content of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), noradrenaline (NA), dopamine (DA), caspase-3, calmodulin (CaM), calcium adenosine 5′-triphosphatase ( Ca++ATPase), tau protein, glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured in brain tissue. The results revealed the potent efficacy of nAg/HAp in attenuating DNA fragmentation and partially recovering most of the investigated parameters manifested by a significant elevation in GABA, NA, DA, Ca++ ATPase, and GSH levels and a decrease in tau protein, caspase-3, CaM and MDA tissue content in comparison with Cd—intoxicated groups. Accordingly, the synthesized nAg/HAp at the selected dose can be used as a biosafe intravenous injection in neurodegenerative diseases.
