        In order to understand the influence of the inducer inlet angle on cavitation and suction performance, experiments were carried out for two kinds inducer, which have the same outlet angle distribution, length and number of inducer blades. The results showed that the change of inducer inlet angles influenced not only internal flow conditions but also cavity flow and suction performance. The improvement of suction performance by using inducer were also discussed.

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the reduction rate of NOx according to sever al parameters(NOx concentration, the flow rate of gas, the additional amount of C2H4, input voltage, input frequency and so on) when NOx is reduced by using PSCD(Pulse Streamer Corona Discharge). PSCD is based on the plasma-chemical technology, which induces narrow voltage pulses to binary electrode structure.

        This paper is to describe the design of the noise reduction of the axial flow fans. The nature and magnitude of the noise-producing mechanisms and the noise reduction are discussed on the basis of the results and theories published up to now. Sources of noise in axial fans can be classify into rotational and non-rotational noise. Rotational noise which is caused by inflow distortion and turbulence consists principally of tones related to the blade passage frequency. While, non-rotation noise which is caused by an interaction of the blade with the tip clearance vortex is broad band in character. The main parameters investigated for noise reduction in axial fans are as follows ; tip clearance, number of blade, chord length, camber angle, solidty, blade thickness, twisting angle, serrations attached on the blade, rotating shroud attached on the tip blade tip, bellmouth, etc.

      • 하수 슬러지 건조 공정의 경제성 평가에 관한 연구

        To solve the water pollution prevention problems, sewage and wastewater disposal system as the basic facilities are required strongly. However, the production of sewage sludge, a by-product of sewage and wastewater disposal system, is tending to increase. Therefore, efficient disposal method of sewage and wastewater is needed. At present, there are many problems in current disposal methods such as open dumping, ocean disposal, and incineration. These cause secondary environmental problems. Recycling sewage sludge is an alternative method to solve these problems thoroughly and prevent environmental disruption and maximize economic usefulness. This study presents LCA(Life Cycle Assesment) application to analyze the environmental loads and economy of sewage sludge drying process. The obtained results are applied to prepare fundamental understanding and judgement in view of environmental and economical consideration on drying process of sewage sludge by local authorities. The results are as follows; The economic assessment showed that the expense of drying process of sewage sludge was 45,603 won per ton. Among the expense items, the fuel cost is around 35%(15,961 won per ton) and it is the main cause. It is regarded that reducing the fuel can obtain the reduction of the cost and carbon dioxide, major environmental pollution discharge.

        Measuring the thermophysical properties of solids in laser heating method, the material surface is coated by thin black paint layer(graphite) to minimize the effects of the laser beam reflection. But, the influence of the thin black paint layer on the surface temperature variations have been ignored. In this paper, a numerical analysis is carried out to clarify quantitatively the influence of the thin black paint layer when the material surface is heated locally. In the experiment, the material surface is heated by Ar laser beam and the surface temperature profiles are measured by an infrared thermometer.

        (Original Article) Lack of association of fragile histidine triad ( FHIT ) polymorphisms with lung cancer in the Korean population

        <P>The fragile histidine triad (FHIT), which was located on chromosome 3p14.2, was currently considered a promising candidate for a tumor suppressor gene. FHIT performed a crucial function in the tumorigenesis of lung cancer. The inactivation of FHIT via genetic alterations, including the chromosomal deletions and aberrant transcription, are often associated with lung cancer. In this study, the association between FHIT and lung cancer development was evaluated in a study of Korean patients. A total of 299 Korean lung cancer patients and 296 control subjects were recruited into this study. Direct DNA sequencing and TaqMan analysis were employed. Logistic regression analyses were conducted in order to characterize the association between FHIT polymorphisms and lung cancer risk. Via direct sequencing in 24 Korean individuals, 27 sequence variants were identified. Eleven of these polymorphisms were selected for a larger scale genotyping (n = 595). Our finding indicated that the polymorphisms and haplotypes in the FHIT gene are not associated with lung cancer in the Korean population.</P>

        유기농 유당으로부터 유기농 Galactooligosaccharide 생산

        본 연구에서는 유기농 유당(organic lactose)을 원료로 Bacillus로부터 분리한 새로운 β-galactosidase의 당전이 반응(transgalactosylation)을 이용해 유기농 갈락토올리고당(galactooligosaccharide, GOS)을 생산하고, 이를 시판되는 타 효소제품을 이용해 조제된 GOS와 비교함으로써 새로운 GOS 제품의 활용 가능성을 검토하였다. Bacillus로부터 분리한 새로운 β-galactosidase를 비롯하여 시판되는 GOS 전환효소 3종(Lactozym, Maxilact 및 Pectinex)을 이용하여 유기농 유당이 GOS로 전환되는 비율을 검토한 결과, β-galactosidase는 유당을 가수분해하여 19.83%의 galactose와 glucose로 가수분해하였으며, transgalactosylation을 유도하여 glucose와 galactose의 β-1,6 결합 형태인 allolactose를 약 20.0% 가량 생성시키는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한, β-galactosidase는 시판되는 타 효소들에 비하여 유기농 유당으로부터 GOS로의 전환(총 GOS 전환율 60.50%)을 가장 효율적으로 유도하는 것으로 나타났다. 선별된 β-galactosidase와 Lactozym을 이용하여 효소의 첨 가량 및 반응시간이 유기농 GOS 생산에 미치는 영향을 비교한 결과, 두 종류의 효소에서 모두 효소-기질의 반응시간 및 효소의 첨가량은 GOS 생산량과의 뚜렷한 관련성을 찾아볼 수 없었으나, 유기농 유당으로부터 GOS의 전환수율은 Lactozym을 첨가한 군(39.5~50.6%)에 비해서 β-galactosidase가 첨가된 군(59.2~63.3%)에서 매우 높게 나타났다. 시판 GOS 제품들의 총 GOS 함량(54.03~60.27%)과 비교해본 결과, 최적조건으로 제조된 유기농 GOS의 총 GOS함량(60.50%)은 높은 수준인 것으로 확인되었다. 유당 함량분석을 통해 확인한 유기농 유당의 품질은 GOS 생산 원료로 매우 적합할 것으로 생각된다. 본 연구를 통해 개발된 유기농 GOS는 최초 유기농 GOS로, 시판 중인 GOS 제품들과의 당 조성 및 품질 비교에서도 떨어지지 않는 양질의 GOS 제품이 개발되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, GOS 전환율(생산수율), 효소의 가격경쟁력 및 효소 국내 수급사정 등을 고려했을 때 유기농 유당과 β-galactosidase를 이용한 유기농 GOS의 생산은 산업적인 활용 가능성이 매우 클 것으로 생각된다. In this study, we developed a novel organic galactooligosaccharide (GOS) by using β-galactosidase from organic lactose to perform transgalactosylation, and the quality of the novel organic GOS was compared to that of commercial GOS. A new β-galactosidase isolated from Bacillus species converted 80% of lactose composed of galactose and glucose into a transgalactosylation product containing a β-1,6 bond form of glucose and galactose. In addition, β-galactosidase was found to induce conversion of organic lactose to GOS (total GOS conversion of 60.50%) more efficiently than other commercially available enzymes (Lactozym, Maxilact, and Pectinex). The conversion yield of GOS from organic lactose was significantly higher in the β-galactosidase usage group (53.3∼63.3%) than in the Lactozym usage group (39.5∼50.6%). Compared with other commercial GOS products (54.03∼60.27%), total GOS content of organic GOS (60.50%) manufactured under optimal conditions was high. The result, which was confirmed by analysis of lactose contents, suggests that organic GOS in this study was shown to be a novel organic GOS with high quality and the quality of organic GOS is very suitable as a raw material for GOS production. Consequently, organic GOS prepared from the current study is likely to have potential as an industrial product containing high GOS content.

        Doublecortin-immunoreactive Neuroblasts in Each Layer of the Main Olfactory Bulb After Transient Cerebral Ischemia in Gerbils

        Neurogenesis in the adult brain occurs continuously throughout life. The main olfactory bulb (MOB) is the first central relay of the olfactory system. We examined proliferation of newly generated cells in each layer of the gerbil MOB after 5 min of transient cerebral ischemia using doublecortin (DCX), a marker of neuronal progenitors. Many DCX immunoreactive neuroblasts were found in the all layers of the MOBs of control and ischemia groups. Ten to 15 days after ischemia/reperfusion, no difference in numbers of DCX immunoreactive neuroblasts was found in the MOB. Thirty days after ischemia/reperfusion, significant increase of DCX immunoreactive cells was observed in all layers of ischemic MOB. This result indicates that neuroblasts increase in the MOB from 30 days after transient cerebral ischemia in gerbils.

        Effects of Streptozotocin-Induced Type 1 Diabetes on Cell Proliferation and Neuronal Differentiation in the Dentate Gyrus : Correlation with Memory Impairment

        We examined the effects of steptozotocin (STZ)-induced type 1 diabetes on cell proliferation and neuroblasts in the subgranular zone of the hippocampal dentate gyrus (SZDG) of male Wistar rats. Change in memory function was also investigated using the passive avoidance test. In the SZDG, Ki67 (a marker for cell proliferation) positive nuclei were significantly decreased at 2 and 3 weeks and slightly decreased at 4 weeks after STZ treatment. Doublecortin (DCX, a marker for neuronal differentiation)-immunoreactive (+) neuroblasts with tertiary dendrites were significantly decreased in the STZ-treated group compared to those in the vehicle-treated group. However, DCX+ neuroblasts without tertiary dendrites were abundant at 4 weeks after STZ treatment. In addition, retention latency time in STZ-treated group was similar to that of vehicle-treated group at 2 and 3 weeks after STZ treatment. However, the retention latency time was significantly decreased at 4 weeks after STZ treatment. These results suggest that STZ significantly reduced cell proliferation and neuroblasts at 2~3 weeks after STZ treatment, but not at 4 weeks after STZ treatment although memory impairment was detected at 4 weeks after STZ treatment. The gradual reduction of DCX+ neuroblasts with tertiary dendrites may be associated with the impairment of hippocampus-related memory function.
