We performed a variety of lymphocyte stimulation tests, delayed hypersensitivity skin tests, and enumeration of several lymphocyte subpopulations in 21 patients with gastric cancer who did not receive any form of anticancer therapy, and in 20 healthy controls. The gastric cancer patients had significantly decreased number and total score of positive reactions in delayed hypersensitivity skin tests compared with the healthy controls. The percent of CD_(4) positive lymphocytes in the gastric cancer patients was significantly decreased compared to the normal control subjects, but it had no correlation with the total score of delayed cutaneous hypersensitivity reactions. The ratio of helper to suppressor cells was lower in the cancer group. The uptake of 3H-thymidine was markedly depressed in cancer patients when stimulated with various mitogens. There was little correlation between any of the stimulation tests and any of the lymphocyte subpopulation proportions to delayed hypersensitivity cutaneous reactions. Optimal proliferative response was found in lymphocytes stimulated with 10 micrograms of concanavalin-A and 10 microgram of phytohemagglutinin. Advanced stage patients had greatly depressed delayed hypersensitivity skin reactions and proliferative responses to mitogens compared with localized diseases. These results suggest that gastric cancer patients have depressed cellular immune functions, which mainly result from the decreased helper cells and defects in functional proliferative response to mitogens. Interleukin-2 and interferon-gamma restored the in vitro proliferative response of lymphocyte in patients with gastric cancer.

The zinc titanate sorbents(ZTG40) were prepared and the tests for durability and attrition resistance were carried out to develop the highly effective desulfurization sorbents. In the attrition tests for ZTG40 the results showed that the attrition resistance was 94.08% and that the sulfur capacity was maintained above 15g S/100g sorbent throughout the 100-cycle test, its maximum being 23.05g S/100g sorbent. As compared to sorbents developed by the developed countries, ZTG40 showed superior performances. In the advanced countries 15g S/100g sorbent is a yardstick of excellency for the sulfur capacity of desulfurization sorbents. Therefore, ZTG40 developed in this study has the desirable physical and chemical properties for fluidized desulfurization of coal gases.

Genetic Characterization of Haemagglutinin 1 Domain of Influenza B Viruses Isolated in Korea during $1988{\sim}1999$

Although Korean influenza virus isolates have been genetically associated with the vaccine strains of the corresponding year, influenza B viruses have prevailed almost every year in Korea during the past decades. We have 'analyzed the genetic characteristics and evolutionary patterns of the haemagglutinin (HA) 1 domains of influenza B viruses isolated during 1988-1999 using direct RT-PCR and sequencing. Phylogenetic analysis of influenza B viruses isolated in Korea indicated that antigenically and genetically distinguishable strains of the lineage II and lineage III variants had been cocirculated. Variants prevailed in early 1990s are represented in 1996/97 and 1998/99 and some different variants have been co circulated geographically and prevailed concurrently in Korea. All HA1s of Korean isolates have amino acid substitutions mainly in the region between position 124 and 310, which was previously proposed an immunodominant region. Insertion-deletion patterns of the HA gene revealed that Korean influenza B viruses were evolved from Lee40 with different manner between lineage II and III viruses. Lineage III viruses were also divided into two groups as conserved group and inserted group, in relation to Lee40. But lineage II viruses had evolved with directional pattern. Antigenic index proposed that influenza B isolates prevailed since 1996/97 seasons might had emerged from the antigenic variants of a Seo1697-like virus and that new variants might appear from the lineage II viruses resulting in persistent prevalence in Korea.

In this study, we questioned about the possibility of the formation of the new community like relationship at the market on the contrary to the traditional market relationship. We conjectured that kind of new community like relationship may possibly arise because of wide spread of new information technology at market behavior of both consumer and producer side. Traditional buyer-seller relationship was characterized as an anonymous one-shot relationship, however, recent changes were mainly emphasized the rich mutual interactions from both sides. Producers needs more consumer side informations as well as consumers begin to participate on production side at more organized level. Some theoretical studies predict that more rich social relationship will appear at the market since the adoption and wide spread of new information technology. We assume that main functions and ingredients of the community are first, the coordination mechanism which reduces conflicts among community members and second, functional efficiency which meets the common needs of community and third, communicational rationality which enhances the integrity of community members. We surveyed about 100 small and medium sized firms located at Pusan and Kyung-Nam area in order to find out whether firms have community like relationship with their consumers. We fine that most of firms realize the impotance of consumer networks, however most of firms consider this kind of network as a marketing strategy and a source of product design instead of more community oriented characteristics like mutual trust building and social interactions.

Zeolite X 촉매를 이용한 WO₃의 CO 환원-탄화반응

This study was performed to manufacture tungsten carbide from CO reduction- carburization of WO₃using zeolite-NaX catalyst. Zeolite-NaX catalyst could improve the reduction property of WO₃. Moreover, zeoite-HX and KX catalysts also improved the reduction property of WO₃. This improvement of reduction property leaded to the decrease of reaction temperature. The size of WC particle was 50∼60 nm at 650 ℃ for 10h. From these results, it is concluded that the various zeolite X catalysts could be used for the reduction-carburization of W0₃ as the catalysts.

발전기 고정자 권선용 마이카/에폭시 수지의 표면 및 구조분석

The purpose of this study is to determine the ageing mechanism of Mica/Epoxy composite material for large generator stator windings in order to estimate remaining life of generator. X-ray analysis is performed to investigate the position and structure of mica crystal in insulation materials. The phase change of aged and sound specimen under each atmosphere isn't observed. Surface analysis of insulation materials by optical microscope also show that the sound and aged specimen, sliding phenomenon by shear and thermal stress is observed both interface between mica and epoxy.

變煥法에 의한 設計渴水量의 誘導

Derivation of reasonable design low flows was attempted by comparative analysis of design low flows derived by Power and SMEMAX transformations for the normalization of skewed distribution in the four watershed of main river basins in Korea. The results were analyzed and summarized as follows. 1. Basic statistics of annual low flows for the selected watersheds were calculated by using Power and SMEMAX transformations. 2. Power transformation has found to be the best for the normalization of skewed distribution among others including Log, Squareroot and SMEMAX transformations. 3. Design low flows for the seleted watershed were derived by the Power and SMEMAX transformations. 4. Judging by the relative suitablities for the Power and SMEMAX transformations, it was found that design low flows using two methods are closer to the observed data within 10 years of the return period, and those of Power transformation can be acknowledged as a reasonable one in comparison with SMEMAX transformation over 10 years of the return period.

솔잎혹파리 피해임지의 수세변동에 관한 연구

솔잎혹파리 피해임지의 특성에 따른 수세변동을 구명하였다. 솔잎혹파리 피해도(「심), 「중), 「경))별로 구분하여 수세를 조사한 결과 피해가 심한 지역의 수목은 수세가 현저하게 약화되었으며, 수목의 임분밀도(「밀), 「중),「소」)별로 구분한 경우는 피해도와 관계없이 임분밀도가 낮은 임분에서 수목의 수세가 강하게 나타났다. 수목의 외형적 인자중 수관폭과, 흉고직경이 작은 개체에 비하여 큰 개체의 수세가 모든 임분에서 강하게 나타났다. 각 임분에서 전기저항치와 수관면적과의 관계는 피해도 「심」 임분에서는 수관면적이 13.4m2, 「중」 임분에서는 10.9m2, 「경」 임분에서는 7.9m2로 피해가 심할수록 수관면적이 넓어야 임목이 생존할 가능성이 높은 전기저항치(15kΩ이하)가 나타나는 것으로 파악되었다. This study investigated tree vigor of damaged forest by Thecodiplosis japonensis Uchida et Inouye. In damaged forest by pine gall midge, the investigation result of damaged rate section(severe, moderate, light) indicated that severe stand showed higher value of electric resistance(kΩ) than that of light stand, the investigation result of tree density section(crowed, middle, little) indicated that crowed stand showed higher value of electric resistance than that of little stand(the value of electric resistance at which low reading show high vigor tree and high reading low vigor tree). The crown width and DBH(diameter of breast height) of external factors showed lower value of electric resistance than that of small size. The results of comparative between Crown area and value of electric resistance in each stand were 13.4m2 in severe stand, 10.9m2 in moderate stand and 7.9m2 in light stand. Therefore, the tree which have big crown showed low value of electric resistance(below 15kΩ)that has high possible of survial. Key word : Thecodiplosis japonensis, electric resistance, crown area

다발성 말초신경병증으로 발현한 Churg-Strauss 증후군 1예

Churg-Strauss syndrome (CSS) is defined by eosinophil-rich and granulomatous inflammation of the respiratory tract and necrotizing vasculitis affecting small to medium-sized vessels, associated with asthma and eosinophilia. It is strongly associated with antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies, especially the anti-myeloperoxidase type (p-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies) are most often found in CSS. Neurologic involvement is common and may develops early in patients with CSS, usually manifestings as peripheral neuropathy especially mononeuritis multiplex. We report a 58-year-old woman of Churg-Strauss syndrome presented with distal asymmetric polyneuroapthy, which has been reported rarely.
