      • 배추 생육 중 토양 수용성 양이온의 경시적 변화 모니터링

        토양의 치환성 이온 함량이 아닌 식물체에 직접 흡수되는 수용성 이온들을 모니터링 하는 것이 중요하다. 배추가 생육하면서 토양 중 수용성 양이온들의 함량이 어떻게 변하는지 확인하고, 각 이온의 농도에 따라 그에 알맞은 처방이 이루어져야 한다. 토양 시료는 경기도 이천시의 배추 밭에서 정식 이후 16, 35, 48, 70일에 처리구별 각 3반복씩 채취하였다. 처리구는 N 기준 무처리구(Nil), NPK 비료 표준 시비량의 50% 처리구(Con), 100% 처리구(Inf), 그리고 표준 시비량의 50% 처리구에 음폐퇴비가 100%(C100), 200%(C200), 300%(C300) 추가된 처리구가 있다. 채취한 토양은 풍건 후 2 mm 체에 거르고 1:5 비율로 증류수 추출하였으며, Whatman No.2 필터를 사용하여 여과한 후 0.45 μm 실린지 필터로 재 여과하였다. 토양 추출액의 분석은 (주)테크넬 POCT 분석 키트를 사용하였다. 화학비료 처리구의 토양 중 Na의 농도비율은 생육기간 중 꾸준히 증가하는 경향이 있었다. 하지만 K의 농도비율은 시간이 지남에 따라 경시적 감소가 명확하였다. 음폐퇴비 처리구의 경우 토양 중 Na의 농도비율은 생육기간 중 증가하는 경향이었으며, 특히 퇴비 처리수준에 비례하여 높아졌다. Mg의 농도비율은 모든 처리구에서 비슷한 수준을 유지하였다. 모든 처리구에서 토양 중 K의 농도비율 감소는 Na 농도비율의 증가와 상관관계가 높았다.

        전격성 제1형 당뇨병은 특발성 당뇨병환자에서 임상 경과가 짧고 진단 당시 심각한 대사 합병증을 동반하면서 췌장 효소 수치가 높고 췌도 특이 자가항체가 음성인 새로운 아형으로 알려져 있으며, 일본과 일본 외에서의 유병률에는 차이가 있는 것으로 보인다. 아직 전격성 제1형 당뇨병의 발생 기전은 명확하지 않으며 유전적 감수성이 있는 개체에서 바이러스 감염 등의 환경적인 인자와의 연관성이 가능한 병태생리로 제시되고 있으며 이에 대한 추가적인 연구가 요구된다. 저자들은 케톤산증으로 내원하여 전격성 제1형 당뇨병을 진단받은 증례를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고 하는 바이다. Some patients with idiopathic type 1 diabetes have a fulminant disorder characterized by the absence of insulitis and of diabetes-related antibodies, a remarkably abrupt onset and high serum pancreatic enzyme concentrations. This is referred to as fulminant type 1 diabetes. A 29-year-old man suffering from abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting consulted to our hospital. Laboratory findings revealed high blood glucose level and the evidence of diabetic ketoacidosis, but the serum HbA1c was normal nevertheless. The low level of plasma C-peptide indicated the loss of endogenous insulin secretion. The patient satisfied the criteria for the diagnosis of fulminant type 1 diabetes. After the patient has been treated with insulin, his symptoms were improved and abnormal laboratory data were normalized. We report this case with a review of the literature

        우리나라 외래치료명령제의 시행과 개선방향

        Objectives:Since the order for medical treatment as outpatient has begun in Korea, there have been no requests due to the absence of specific details relating to its enforcement and lack of understanding of related specialists. We reviewed current guidelines and administrative conditions for order for medical treatment as outpatient in Korea, and examined examples of operation and related regulations of developed countries. Methods:Korean studies concerning development of the order for medical treatment as outpatient were inquired. We investigated the guidelines of other countries including U.S.A., Australia, United Kingdom and Canada. The survey of related specialists for the improvement of order for medical treatment as outpatient was performed. Results:Related specialists agreed that current order for medical treatment as outpatient needed more detailed guidelines for candidate patients, processes and management for noncompliance. Additionally, majority of the specialists suggested that candidates for order for medical treatment as outpatient should be extended for not only hospitalized patients but also patients in community. Conclusions:We reviewed detailed considerations regarding candidate recipients within current legislation, complemented post-enforcement report, management procedures, and stipulated actions for noncompliance, to be used as practical guidelines for application. More fundamental measures than complementation of guidelines, such as modification of related legislature will be needed to increase usage, and further details with reference to confidentiality of recipients and safety measures and financial support of treatment personnel will be needed.

      • Decreased plasma adiponectin among male firefighters with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background</B></P> <P>Recent studies have reported that adiponectin-mediated neuromolecular pathways are involved in fear extinction, implying that adiponectin may be an important biological marker for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, no study has investigated the association between adiponectin and patients with PTSD.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>We examined plasma adiponectin levels, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and psychopathological factors using the Korean version of the Impact Event Scale-Revised (IES-R-K) and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale in 507 male firefighters. The PTSD symptom group was defined as those with a score of 25 or higher on the IES-R-K. Multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted to examine the covariates for the PTSD symptom group.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>Out of 507 male firefighters, 139 (27.4%) had a score of 25 or more on the IES-R-K. The PTSD symptom group had lower plasma adiponectin levels than the controls. There was an inverse correlation between plasma adiponectin levels and PTSD severity. There was no correlation between adiponectin levels and depression. The adiponectin level was associated with the presence of PTSD symptom (odds ratio = 0.955, 95% CI = 0.920–0.991).</P> <P><B>Limitations</B></P> <P>A cross-sectional design and using self-rated instruments.</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>To the best of our knowledge, the results showed that decreased adiponectin-mediated activity is associated with PTSD.         Contents of the Standardized Suicide Prevention Program for Gatekeeper Intervention in Korea, Version 2.0

        Objective Suicide is a huge nationwide problem that incurs a lot of socio-economic costs. Suicide also inflicts severe distress on the people left behind. The government of the Republic of Korea has been making many policy efforts to reduce suicide rate. The gatekeeper program, ‘Suicide CARE’, is one of the meaningful modalities for preventing suicide. Methods Multidisciplinary research team collaborated to update the ‘Suicide CARE’ to version 2.0. Results In the ‘Introductory part’, the authors have the time to think about the necessity and significance of the program before conducting full-scale gatekeeper training. In the ‘Careful observation’ part, trainees learn how to understand and recognize the various linguistic, behavioral, and situational signals that a person shows before committing suicide. In the ‘Active listening’ part, trainees learn how to ask suicide with a value-neutral attitude as well listening empathetically. In the ‘Risk evaluation and Expert referral’ part, trainees learn intervening strategies to identify a person’s suicidal intention, plan, and past suicide attempts, and connect the person to appropriate institutes or services. Conclusion Subsequent studies should be conducted to verify the efficacy of the gatekeeper program.

        Antibacterial and Antibiofilm Effect of Cell-Free Supernatant of Lactobacillus brevis KCCM 202399 Isolated from Korean Fermented Food against Streptococcus mutans KCTC 5458

        This study aims to determine the antibiofilm effect of cell-free supernatant (CFS) of Lactobacillus brevis strains against Streptococcus mutans strains. To study the antibiofilm mechanism against S. mutans strains, antibacterial effects, cell surface properties (auto-aggregation and cell surface hydrophobicity), exopolysaccharide (EPS) production, and morphological changes were examined. The antibiofilm effect of L. brevis KCCM 202399 CFS as morphological changes were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), compared with the control treatment. Among the L. brevis strains, L. brevis KCCM 202399 showed the highest antibiofilm effect on S. mutans KCTC 5458. The antibacterial effect of L. brevis KCCM 202399 against S. mutans KCTC 5458 was investigated using the deferred method (16.00 mm). The minimum inhibitory concentration of L. brevis KCCM 202399 against S. mutans KCTC 5458 was 25.00%. Compared with the control treatment, L. brevis KCCM 202399 CFS inhibited the bacterial adhesion of S. mutans KCTC 5458 by decreasing auto-aggregation, cell surface hydrophobicity, and EPS production (45.91%, 40.51%, and 67.44%, respectively). L. brevis KCCM 202399 CFS inhibited and eradicated the S. mutans KCTC 5458 biofilm. Therefore, these results suggest that L. brevis KCCM 202399 CFS may be used to develop oral health in the probiotic industry.

      • Direct analysis of site-specific N-glycoproteins in Dried Blood Spot by LC-MS/MS

        Glycosylation is one of the important post-translational modification of proteins, which have a variety of functions in a wide range of biological processes such as inflammation and immunization. Especially N-glycoproteins contain glycans attached to asparagine (N) residues. Dried Blood Spot (DBS) have a number of advantages which are easy to collection, transportation, and storage at room temperature compared with previous conventional sampling methods that store the blood in the liquid state at low temperature (-80 ℃). In this study, we performed direct analysis of the N-glycoproteins through optimization of sample preparation from human serum without any depletion and enrichment processes. Denaturing and desalting condition brfore MS analysis were tested and optimized conditions were applied to DBS to identify N-glycoproteins. We first found total 54 glycopeptides from 23 major glycoproteins in DBS directly. Among them, 17 site-specific N-glycopeptides from 11 major glycoproteins quantified by LC-MS/MS with GPA system [1]. The quantified N-glycopeptides have a similar retention time and CV% for quantitation was less than 30%. We were able to quantify neutral fucosylated and sialylated non-fucosylated glycan structures in DBS. Through these experiments, we confirmed that N-glycoproteins and N-glycopeptides analysis can be performed in dried blood spot directly. Further it is expected that N-glycoprotein analysis using dried blood spot can be applied to disease sample.
