Dust and fine dust exist in various forms and can lead to various problems such as dust explosion and air pollution. To reduce them, recently, research on electrospray electric precipitation, among various dust collection methods, has been actively conducted. In this study, comparative analysis experiments were performed on microdroplet generation characteristics for direct and indirect charging methods of electrospray electric precipitation. A visualization device was fabricated to generate microdroplets, and microdroplets were photographed with a high-magnification camera according to each charging method. The size and number of microdroplets were then analyzed via ImageJ software.
Young Children’s Metacognition Expressed during Coding Play
Han Jiwon(Jiwon Han),Choi Younchul(Younchul Choi) The Pacific Early Childhood Education Research Ass 2023 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhoo Vol.17 No.3
The purpose of this study is to explore young children’s metacognition expressed during coding play. The children participating in this study consisted of 13 five-year children(6 males and 7 females) at H Kindergarten in S City. Various data, such as observation records, researcher’s own journals, and informal consultation meeting records were collected and analyzed. The results of this study are as follows: First, metacognitive planning can be further activated in coding play while children create their own meaning through judgment and selection. Second, children are engaged in monitoring the degree to which performance is progressing towards a desired goal. Third, metacognitive control actively appeared in coding play while children changed ways of conducting tasks. Fourth, children review task performance and evaluate the quality of performance in coding play. The results of this study are expected to help understand how young children’s metacognition appears in coding play, and further reveal the educational value of coding play that helps young children activate their metacognition.
Determining the Existence of Objects in an Image and Its Application to Image Thumbnailing
Jiwon Choi,Chanho Jung,Jaeho Lee,Changick Kim IEEE Signal Processing Society 2014 IEEE signal processing letters Vol. No.
<P>In recent years, computer vision applications dealing with foreground objects are becoming more important with an increasing demand of advanced intelligent systems. Most of these applications assume that an image contains one or more objects, which often produce undesired results when noticeable objects do not appear in the image. In this letter, we address the problem of ascertaining the existence of objects in an image. In the first step, the input image is partitioned into nonoverlapping local patches, then the patches are categorized into three classes, namely natural, man-made, and object to estimate object candidates. Then a Bayesian methodology is employed to produce more reliable results by eliminating false positives. To boost the object patch detection performance, we exploit the difference between coarse and fine segmentation results. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method, extensive experiments have been conducted on several benchmark image databases. Furthermore, we have shown the usefulness of our approach by applying it to a real application (i.e., image thumbnailing).</P>

Choi Seong-Ho,Lee Jeongsoo,Jung Jiwon,Kim Eun Sil,Kim Min Jae,Chong Yong Pil,Kim Sung-Han,Lee Sang-Oh,Choi Sang-Ho,Woo Jun Hee,Kim Yang Soo 대한의학회 2021 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.36 No.16
Background: The temporal changes in the Staphylococcus aureus genotypes causing S. aureus bacteremia (SAB) and the corresponding clinical changes over the last decade in South Korea are rarely investigated. Methods: A longitudinal study of adult SAB patients was conducted in a large referral hospital in Seoul, South Korea. Adult monomicrobial SAB patients were enrolled between August 2008 and December 2018. Genotyping was performed by multilocus sequence typing (MLST) and staphylococcal protein A (spa) typing. Trends in changes were identified by linear regression analysis. Results: Of 1782 adult SAB patients, the blood isolates of 1,778 (99.8%) and 1,634 (91.7%) were determined to be MLST and spa type, respectively. ST5 (–2.626%/year) and ST239 (–0.354%/year) decreased during the study period (P < 0.001 for both), but ST72 (2.009%/ yr)-and ST8 (0.567%/yr) increased (P < 0.001 for both). The most common genotype was changed from ST5 in 2008 (44.9%) to ST72 in 2018 (36.3%). Panton-Valentine leukocidinpositive spa-t008-MRSA (USA300) was found in 28.6%. Central venous catheter (CVC)-related SAB (–2.440%/yr) and persistent SAB (–1.016%/yr) decreased, but mortality and recurrence rates were unchanged. Conclusion: Over the last decade, the hospital clones ST5 and ST239 have been replaced by community genotype ST72. This was associated with decreased CVC-related and persistent SAB. Increased USA300 was observed in community and hospital settings. Further research is required to identify the reasons for the ST72 epidemic and predict the impending epidemic of ST8 strains, including USA300.

Pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis is an uncommon diffuse cystic lung disease in adults. In rare cases, it can involve extrapulmonary organs and lead to endocrine abnormalities such as central diabetes insipidus. A 42-year-old man presented with polyphagia and polydipsia, as well as a dry cough and dyspnea on exertion. Magnetic resonance imaging of the hypothalamic-pituitary system failed to show the posterior pituitary, which is a typical finding in patients with central diabetes insipidus. This condition was confirmed by a water deprivation test, and the patient was also found to have type 2 diabetes mellitus. Computed tomographic scanning of the lungs revealed multiple, irregularly shaped cystic lesions and small nodules bilaterally, with sparing of the costophrenic angles. Lung biopsy through video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery revealed pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis. On a follow-up visit, only 1 year after the patient had quit smoking, clinical and radiological improvement was significant. Here, we report an uncommon case of pulmonary Langerhans cell histiocytosis that simultaneously presented with diabetes insipidus and diabetes mellitus.
1,3-Diphenyl-1H-pyrazole derivatives as a new series of potent PPARγ partial agonists
Choi, Jiwon;Park, Yunsun;Lee, Hui Sun;Yang, Young;Yoon, Sukjoon Sookmyung Women's University Research Institute of 2011 여성과 건강 Vol.6 No.2
A new series of PPARγ partial agonists, 1,3-diphenyl-1H-pyrazole derivatives, were identified using an improved virtual screening scheme combining ligand-centric and receptor-centric methods. An in vitro assay confirmed the nanomolar binding affinity of 1,3-diphenyl-1 H-pyrazole derivatives such as SP3415. We also characterized the competitive antagonism of SP3415 against rosiglitazone at micromolar concentrations. They showed a PPARγ partial agonistic activity similar to that of a known PPARγ drug, pioglitazone. in a cell-based transactivation assay. Furthermore, the structure-activity relationships of the pyrazole derivatives were investigated through comparative molecular field analysis and binding mode analysis, which provided new insight concerning their partial agonistic effect on PPARγ.
3',4'-Dihydroxyl Groups in Luteolin are Important for Its Inhibitory Activities against ADAMTS-4
Jiwon Choi,정기웅,Jin-Kyoung Kim,Byung Ha Chang,Jee-Young Lee,김양미 대한화학회 2012 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.33 No.9
A disintegrin and metalloprotease with thrombospondin domains (ADAMTS) are a member of peptidase and involved in processing of von Willebrand factor as well as cleavage of aggrecan, versican, brevican and neurocan. Among 19 subfamilies of human ADAMTS, ADAMTS-4 is a zinc-binding metalloprotease and is a famous therapeutic target for arthritis. It has been reported that a flavonoid luteolin shows inhibitory activity against ADMATS-4. In this study, we verified that luteolin is a potent inhibitor of ADAMTS-4 and probed the molecular basis of its action. On the basis of a docking study, we proposed a binding model between luteolin and ADAMTS-4 in which 3',4'-dihydroxyl groups in luteolin formed hydrogen bonding with ADMATS-4 and these interactions are important for its inhibitory activity against ADAMTS-4..
