<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Organic field-effect transistors (OFETs) have been fabricated by deposition of an organic semiconductor on inorganic dielectric layers like SiO<SUB>2</SUB>. However, inorganic oxide dielectrics have hydrophilic surface properties, which interrupts the growth of organic semiconductors with highly aligned and π-extended domains, and provide many absorbing sites for moisture that work as trap sites for charge carriers. To overcome this problem, a proper surface-treatment method is required to improve the morphology of organic semiconductors. In this study, we treat SiO<SUB>2</SUB> dielectrics with polystyrene (PS) and Cytop (a fluorinated cross-linkable polymer) to tune the surface properties when fabricating pentacene-based bottom-gate top-contact OFETs, and analyzed the influence of surface functionalization on the growth of the pentacene crystals under different deposition conditions and electrical device characteristics. By comparing the morphological features of pentacene with the device characteristics, the effect of hydrophobicity on the morphology of the pentacene polymorph, strongly related to the charge-transport mechanism, could be described.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Interfacial characteristic between active and dielectric layer is significant parts in morphological and electrical property in OFETs. </LI> <LI> Morphological structure of pentacene was investigated according to the hydrophobicity with PS and Cytop surface modification. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Bariatric patients are at risk of diverse complications, such as bowel obstruction, internal hernia,and mesenteric thrombosis, which can result in massive small bowel resection with short bowelsyndrome (SBS) as a consequence. In this study a case of an internal hernia after childbirth in a36-year-old patient with a history of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery is reported. An emergency laparotomy revealed an internal hernia in Petersen’s space with volvulus, causingextensive small bowel infarction and necrosis. SBS is a complicated multifaceted syndrome whichrequires a multidisciplinary approach, such as medical, nutritional, and pharmaceutical therapies,to optimize fluid and nutrient absorption over long-term monitoring and with revisions of thecare plan. To reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with an internal hernia and volvulus,clinicians must be acutely aware of a potential SBS diagnosis and not delay surgical exploration, evenif the vital signs, laboratory results, and imaging studies are normal.

Streptomyces griseus S4-7, a well-characterized key- stone taxon among strawberry microbial communi- ties, shows exceptional disease-preventing ability. The whole-genome sequence, functional genes, and bioactive secondary metabolites of the strain have been described in previous studies. However, proteomics studies of not only the S4-7 strain, but also the Streptomyces genus as a whole, remain limited to date. Therefore, in the pres- ent study, we created a proteomics reference map for S. griseus S4-7. Additionally, analysis of differentially expressed proteins was performed against a wblE2 mu- tant, which was deficient in spore chain development and did not express an antifungal activity-regulatory transcription factor. We believe that our data provide a foundation for further in-depth studies of functional keystone taxa of the phytobiome and elucidation of the mechanisms underlying plant-microbe interactions, es- pecially those involving the Streptomyces genus.

<P>The transmembrane domain (TMD) of the syndecans, a family of transmembrane heparin sulfate proteoglycans, is involved in forming homo-and heterodimers and oligomers that transmit signaling events. Recently, we reported that the unique phenylalanine in TMD positively regulates intramolecular interactions of syndecan-2. Besides the unique phenylalanine, syndecan-2 contains a conserved phenylalanine (SDC2-Phe-169) that is present in all syndecan TMDs, but its function has not been determined. We therefore investigated the structural role of SDC2-Phe-169 in syndecan TMDs. Replacement of SDC2-Phe-169 by tyrosine (S2F169Y) did not affect SDS-resistant homodimer formation but significantly reduced SDS-resistant heterodimer formation between syndecan-2 and -4, suggesting that SDC2-Phe-169 is involved in the heterodimerization/oligomerization of syndecans. Similarly, in an in vitro binding assay, a syndecan-2 mutant (S2(F169Y)) showed a significantly reduced interaction with syndecan-4. FRET assays showed that heteromolecular interactions between syndecan-2 and -4 were reduced in HEK293T cells transfected with S2(F169Y) compared with syndecan-2. Moreover, S2(F169Y) reduced downstream reactions mediated by the heterodimerization of syndecan-2 and -4, including Rac activity, cell migration, membrane localization of PKC alpha, and focal adhesion formation. The conserved phenylalanine in syndecan-1 and -3 also showed heterodimeric interaction with syndecan-2 and -4. Taken together, these findings suggest that the conserved phenylalanine in the TMD of syndecans is crucial in regulating heteromeric interactions of syndecans.</P>
A case report of uterine rupture after repeated conservative treatment for adenomyosis

A 34-year-old nulliparous woman with abdominal discomfort at 27 weeks of gestation visited our clinic. She had a history of complex treatments for symptom relief and fertility for uterine adenomyosis, which included repeat adenomyomectomies and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). Three months after her last adenomyomectomy, she conceived by in vitro fertilization. During antenatal care at our clinic at 27 weeks of gestation, the results of an examination for abdominal discomfort with focal tenderness on the lower abdomen was suspicious for uterine rupture and fetal distress. An emergency cesarean delivery was performed. The mothers uterus was repaired without significant postoperative complications and the neonate was admitted to the intensive care unit for prematurity care and presently is well. A follow-up for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is planned. During antenatal care of a pregnant woman, heightened awareness of catastrophic pregnancy-related complications should be maintained to obtain the best maternal and fetal outcomes.
