We developed the educational purpose mobile application, named "Wild Flowers of Bukhansan National Park (version 1.0)", aiming for easy identification of wild flowers for students and visitors in the park. When visitors find a flower or part of plant in the park, visitors can search for its name utilizing the pictures and characters provided in their own smartphone mobile devices or tablet PCs. The application provides pictures of wild flowers in the park and character-based searching system based on 12 diagnostic features (e.g., growth form, leaf arrangement, flower symmetry, petal color, petal number, sepal number, etc). We adopted the complete floristic survey of Chung and Lee (1962) and added species that we confirmed their distribution in the park during the development of this application. In summary, number of vascular plants in this park was estimated to be 428 taxa including 100 families, 280 genera, 327 species, 1 subspecies, 50 varieties, and 5 formas. We provided a total of 588 pictures representing 358 taxa and each taxon includes multiple pictures in many cases. Included identification quizzes can be an efficient educational tool as well as fun activity for students and visitors who are learning plant species in Korea. Our next step will include GPS function in the application for indicating visitor's location and for providing previously reported sites of the species that we interested in the map of the park. The future application which includes GPS function will be a valuable tool for the monitoring of rare plants, plant researches related to the climate changes, etc. We currently provide Korean iPhone version only, and English version and both of android versions will be serviced soon.

This study is concerned with the development of the SL inorganic floor covering. First, volatile organic compounds, inorganic test profile on the SL through the flooring is environment-friendly inorganic noncombustible floor finishes the event of fire toxic gases (such as volatile organic compounds) emissions have been identified as not at all. Second, SL-breathable material, the concrete floor to prevent aging, long life, which are three levels of noise, shock-absorbing function was decreased. Third, SL economic analysis of mineral flooring terrazzo tile floors compared with the normal material. On a terrazzo tile cost 13,500 won ~ 24,500 won, but It have found that, in terms of labor SL 36,899 won ~ 38,899 won flooring mineral balance. Occurs in the total amount when compared with terrazzo tile floors and 25,399 won 3T, 5T and economical analysis concludes that the original 12,399 won.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Cigarette smoke (CS) is the main etiological cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the prevalence of which has continuously increased in recent years. 4-Hydroxycinnamic acid (HA) is a plant phenolic acid that has anti-inflammatory activities. In this study, we explored the therapeutic effects of HA on airway inflammation caused by CS and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in mice. The animals received 1 h of CS exposure for 7 days and intranasal instillation of LPS on day 4. HA (10 and 20 mg/kg) was administered to animals via oral gavage 1 h before CS exposure. HA treatment significantly decreased the accumulation of inflammatory cells and production of cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1β, caused by CS and LPS exposure. After histological examination, we observed that HA treatment significantly reduced the infiltration of inflammatory cells into lung tissue caused by CS and LPS exposure. Furthermore, HA-treated groups showed significantly decreased phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase, c-Jun N-terminal kinase, p38, and nuclear factor-κB, and activity of cytochrome c oxidase subunit-2 caused by CS and LPS. In conclusion, HA effectively suppresses the airway inflammatory response induced by CS and LPS exposure, and is closely associated with the downregulation of mitogen-activated protein kinases signaling.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Protective effects of 4-hydroxycinnamic acid (HA) on airway inflammation were investigated. </LI> <LI> HA reduced inflammatory cell counts and proinflammatory cytokine production. </LI> <LI> HA reduced airway inflammation, which was closely related to downregulation of mitogen-activated protein kinases signaling. </LI> </UL> </P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Mitochondrial viscosity affects respiratory state and signal transduction. As a result, abnormal mitochondrial viscosity leads to diabetes, accelerated aging, insulin resistance, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and Huntington's disease. Previously reported probes for mitochondrial viscosity have absorption and emission wavelengths in the green to orange region and thus are hampered by interference with biomolecules. In addition, rotors with disubstituted double bonds have low photostability, due to photoisomerization. Here, we report a new far-red viscosity probe, <B>SFC-Cy007</B>, which has high photostability, due to a tetrasubstituted double bond. This probe was selectively located in the intracellular mitochondria and immediately responded to changes in mitochondrial viscosity via swelling and inflammatory responses. Furthermore, <B>SFC-Cy007</B> stained well at very low concentrations in the hippocampal tissue, allowing visual observation of viscosity distribution in hippocampal tissue for the first time.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Far-red fluorescence probe to detect of mitochondrial viscosity. </LI> <LI> Asymmetric cyanine as a molecular rotor with high photostability. </LI> <LI> Immediate response to changes in mitochondrial viscosity through swelling and inflammation. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

Esophageal duplication cysts account for a very small percentage of benign esophageal tumor that is usually diagnosed in childhood, but very rare cases remain asymptomatic until adolescence. They may be asymptomatic or present with complications like infection, bleeding, or mass effect. A 19-years-women visited our hospital presenting chest pain and dysphagia. Contrast enhanced computed tomography of the chest showed a heterogeneous density of mass in left lateral wall of distal thoracic esophagus. On endoscopic ultrasound, a heterogeneously echotextured lesion with anechoic components present and no vascular component in Doppler sonogram at intramural location in the lower esophagus was noted. In view of symptoms of dysphagia and possibility of esophageal submucosal tumor, surgical excision through posterolateral thoracotomy was performed. In gross fi nding, a mass measurred 4. 0 x 4. 0 x 2. 0 cm and formed cyst with hematoma formation in it. Histopathologically the cyst was lined by pseudostratifi ed ciliated columnar epithelium surrounded by inner circular and outer longitudinal smooth muscle layers without cartilage. So it was diagnosed as a complicated esophageal duplication cyst with hematoma formation. Esophageal duplication cyst represent rare benign tumor of congenital foregut anomalies. Up to 80% of these cysts are diagnosed in childhood, less than 7% remain asymptomatic until adolescence. Pain and dysphagia are the most common symptoms in adults. Complications may be infections, rupture or bleeding. Diagnosis is usually made by computed tomography and endoscopic ultrasound. The only defi nite treatment is surgical excision. Pathologically, the cyst is covered with nonkeratinizing squamous or ciliated columnar epithelium, and the cyst wall contains two layers of smooth muscle. These fi ndings, accompanied by a lack of cartilage in the cyst wall, can differentiate an esophageal duplication cyst from a bronchogenic cyst.

<P>Pancreatitis is an inflammatory disorder of pancreas which leads to varying degrees of pancreatic endocrine and exocrine dysfunction and manifests in either acute or chronic forms. Spontaneous pancreatitis in experimental animals has rarely been reported. Here, we found acute to chronic courses of spontaneous pancreatitis in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs), showing the formation of tubular complexes (TCs) and enhanced islet regeneration. We investigated the expression pattern of clusterin in the pancreas of SHRs based on immunohistochemistry (IHC). IHC analysis revealed the strong expression of clusterin in dedifferentiated duct-like cells and regenerative islets of TCs. These results imply that clusterin might be involved in the formation of TCs and parenchymal regeneration during rat pancreatitis.</P>

An analytical method for the simultaneous determination of trace Ge, As and Se in biological samples by inductively coupled plasma/mass spectrometry has been investigated. The effects of added organic gas into the coolant argon gas on the analyte signal were studied to improve the detection limit, accuracy and precision. The addition of a small amount of methane (10 mL/min.) into the coolant gas channel improved the ionization of Ge, As and Se. The analytical sensitivity of the proposed Ar/CH₄system was superior by at least two-fold to that of the conventional Ar method. In the present method, the detection limits obtained for Ge, As and Se were 0.014, 0.012 and 0.064 ㎍/L, respectively. The analytical reliability of the proposed method was evaluated by analyzing the certified standard reference materials (SRM). Recoveries of 99.9% for Ge, 103% for As, 96.5% for Se were obtained for NIST SRM of freeze dried urine sample. The proposed method was also applied to the biological samples.
