The Anti-cancer Effect of Oriental Medicine Chung-Ri-Ja-Gam-Tang in the Mouse with Metastatic Lung Cancer. Proceedings of International Symposium on East-West Medicine, Seoul. 231-243, 1999.-The oriental medicine Chung-Ri-Ja-Gam-Tang is an herbal medicine which has been used for pulmonary diseases and known as having immune stimulatory effects. It has been known effective in lung cancer. So we studied the effects and the mechanisms of this herbal medicine it the mouse with metastatic lung cancer. The metastatic lung cancer of the mouse was produced with melnoma cell line(B16BL/6).5×10□/mouse tumor cells were injected intravenously to the CDF1 mouse via tail vein. The mice were divided 4 groups. The first group was treated with 50mg/kg extract of Chung-Ri-Ja-Gam-Tang per oral for 10 days after cancer cell injection, second group treated with saline after cancer cell injection, the third group with medicine without cancer cell, and the last group with saline only. After 10 days treatments some of the mice were scarificed and the lung and spleen was removed. The survival duration, weight change, the number of metastatic cancer nodule of the lung, the NK cell activity, the capacity of cytokines(INF-γ,INF-α,IL-2) production and the proliferation activities of mouse lymphocytes were measured. The surival times of the group 1 mice were longer and the weight loss was less than the group 2 significantly. The number of the metastatic nodule of the lung were decresed in the group 1 than the group 2. The production of INF-γ,was increase in group 2 than group 3 and 4, IL-2 production was increased in group 1 than group 2,3,4 significantly. There was no difference in TNF- α production and proliferation activity of lymphocyte in each group. The NK cell activity was significantly increased in group 1 than group 2,3,4. We conclude that the Chung-Ri-Ja-Gam-Tang has the effect of increasing the NK cell activity of the CDF1 mouse with metastatic lung cancer(B16BL/6). And it is suggested that the increased production of the IL-2 is the mechanisms of enhanced NK cell activity.

This study was made to find several significant relations among varous physical properties. The soil samples ware taken at district of Korean area, where the structures would be placed on the alluvial clay foundation. It was the statistical analysis through computer programs, Minitab statistics package, were carried out using the result of laboratory tests of 465 soil damples. The results ofthe study are summarized as follows; 1. Judging form Casagrande's plasticity chart, it is considered that almost all soil samples belong to inorganic clay with medium or high plasticity. 2. It is certainthat the foundation is weak because the natural moisture contents are much higher then the liquid limits. 3. When the initial void ratio whtch playscrucial role to the settlement of foundation is more than 2.5, the compression indices of soil samples are remakably scattered, but these indices, which ar formulated as a general expression, tend to increasing the clay content, natural moisture content, initial void ratio, liquid limit and plasticity index.

It is generalized that the compression index of soft soil is the main parameters to calculate the settlement. To determine the parameters, we must take consolidation test in the laboratory, but the test is very difficult becaue of sampling, disturbance, etc.. An account of this reason, many reporter have studied to identify the relationship between the compression index and the other soil properties except consolidation test method. The investigation described in this paper are to analyze the correlation between the compression index and the other soil properties fur the Korean marine disposit clay and to compare the previous report. With parameters and mathematical models being changed, experimental equations were obtained by regression analysis in which a personal computer was used.(Minitab statistics package) The analyzed result for 413 undisturbed samples have shown that the compression index is related to liquid limit, in-place ratio, and natural moisture content. In this experiment, we examined the the effect of Laetrile Oil to the immune system and tried to disclose the anti-cancer mechanism of this. The result is listed as below. 1. After per-os, sub-cutaneous and into the peritonal injection of Laetrile Oil to the SPF mice, the LD50 is above 5ooomg/kg at even roup. 2. Mean survival days of mice treated with laetril oil, after S-180 cells transplantation into the eritoneal cavoty decreases 1.5 days(-6.8%) compared with the Mean survival days of the control group(22days.) 3. Effects of laetril oil on natural killer cell activity at Effector/Target Cell Ratio with 100:1, 50:1, l0:l into methotrexate-pretreated mice is like this.: Compared with 29.22±l2.7% Cytotoxicity of the control group, sample group's Cytotoxicity had 38.83±l2.5% of meaningful acrease. At l00:1 Effecr/Target Cell Ratio. At 50:l Effector/Target Cell Ratio, control group has 20.02±9.6% Cytotoxiciy and sample group had 3l.53±13.4% Cytotoxicity. At 25:l Effector/Target Cell Ratio, control group has 13.60±6.6% Cytotoxicity and sample group had 20.8l±9.8% Cytotoxicity. According to the above results, the Laetrile Oil represents nontotoxic to a SPF mice. non-effective to transplantable Sarcoma 180 tumors, and activaion in NK cell activity.
Interactive Assembly and Simulation of Mechanical Automata in Virtual Reality

We present an interactive system for designing and simulating mechanical automata in virtual reality. Our system allows novice users to intuitively assemble mechanical components by using natural user interfaces such that a variety of useful mechanisms commonly used in automata can be quickly constructed. Mechanical assemblies in our system are efficiently represented by a simple graph structure, which supports multi-layered, three-dimensional mechanisms. Given a graph representation, a set of rigid bodies and simulation constraints can easily be instantiated according to the information encoded in the vertices and edges of the graph, so that common physics-based simulation engines can produce realistic animations of the mechanical assembly. We demonstrate the usefulness of our approach by designing two different virtual automata, visually determining that the intended behaviors can be faithfully simulated.

N/A Background : The adhesion of H. pylori to the gastric epithelial cells may be an essential step for the pathophysiology of various H. pylori-induced gastrointestinal diseases. The purpose of this study was to investigate the ultrastructural relation of H. pylori and gastric epithelial cells in their adhesion. Methods : Endoscopic biopsy of gastric antrum and body was performed from 15 patients (9 men, 6 women) with chronic gastritis and H. pylori infection. The specimens were processed for electron microscopy and observed with a transmission electron microscope (Hitachi H-600). Results : On the basis of morphological appearances, the adhesions of H. pylori to the gastric epithelial cells were categorized into three types, filamentous connection, adhesion pedestals and membrane fusion. Coccoid and undetermined forms adhered mainly by the filamentous connection, whereas the bacillary forms adhered primarily by the adhesion pedestals and membrane fusion. Conclusion : Various types of adhesion were associated with H. pylori and gastric epithelium. Further studies are needed to evaluate the influence of different types of adhesion to the pathophysiology of H. pylori.

Background/Aims: Endoscopic mucosal resection can cure early gastric cancer. The risk of lymphatic metastasis is related to the depth of submucosal invasion by the mucosal malignancy, with a resection depth of 500 μm generally accepted as a safe cut-off. However, excessive thinning induced by stretching of the resected tissue sometimes preventing a precise diagnosis. We studied the effects of stretching on different layers and sites of gastric tissue. Methods: Porcine stomachs were cut into 2.0×2.0 cm pieces, and pieces from body were stretched to 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 cm. Pieces from the cardia, body, and antrum were also stretched to 3.0 cm. The thickness of each layer was measured and analyzed statistically. Results: Whole gastric wall and submucosal layers showed gradual thinning, with stretching to 3.5 cm tearing the tissues and resulting in imperfect extension. The submucosa was thinner in body tissue than in cardia and antrum tissues. Stretching to 3.0 cm induced a consistent decrease in submucosal thickness (30-70%). The change in thickness varied widely between individual samples. Conclusions: A resection margin of 500μm might be insufficient for the complete removal of malignancy. Moreover, the thickness of the submucosal layer differs with the gastric site and between individuals. Future studies are needed to confirm the findings in human tissue. (Gut and Liver 2008;2:199-204)
