A fiber-optic beta/gamma dual detector system with two types of sensing probes was fabricated to detect the beta- and gamma-rays simultaneously. As scintillators of the sensing probe type 1, two different inorganic scintillators, CaF₂(Eu) and LYSO(Ce) crystals, were used to obtain the each scintillating efficiency with respect to betaand gamma-rays and the inherent energy spectra of radioactive isotopes. In the case of the sensing probe type 2, which is composed of two identical inorganic scintillators and a beta shielding material based on the lead, it could discriminate beta- and gamma-rays using a subtraction method. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the proposed fiber-optic beta/gamma dual detector could measure and discriminate beta- and gamma-rays using both energy spectroscopy and subtraction method.

Based on the idea of eigen-mode expansion, a method to analyze the reflection of Lamb wave from a finite vertical discontinuity of plate is theoretically derived and verified by experiment. The theoretical prediction is in good agreement with the experimental result, and this strongly suggests that eigen-mode expansion method could be used for solution of inverse scattering problem for ultrasonic testing using Lamb wave.

<P>The anomalous piezoresistance (a-PZR) effects, including giant PZR (GPZR) with large magnitude and inverse PZR of opposite, have exciting technological potentials for their integration into novel nanoelectromechanical systems. However, the nature of a-PZR effect and the associated kinetics have not been clearly determined yet. Even further, there are intense research debates whether the a-PZR effect actually exists or not; although numerous investigations have been conducted, the origin of the effect has not been clearly understood. This paper shows the existence of a-PZR and provides direct experimental evidence through the performance of well-established electrical measurements and terahertz spectroscopy on silicon nanomembranes (Si NMs). The clear inverse PZR behavior was observed in the Si NMs when the thickness was less than 40 nm and the magnitude of the PZR response linearly increased with the decreasing thickness. Bioinspired Morphogenesis of Highly Intricate and Symmetric Silica Nanostructures

<P>Biosilification is of interest due to its capability to produce a highly intricate structure under environmentally friendly conditions. Despite the considerable effort that has been devoted toward biomimetic silification, the synthesis of highly complex silica structures, as found in the structures of diatom cell walls, is still in its infancy. Here, we report the bioinspired fabrication of well-organized and symmetric silica nanostructured networks, involving phase separation and silicic acid polymerization processes, in analogy to the morphogenesis of diatom cell walls. Our approach exploits self-assembled silica spheres as a self-source of the silicic acids as well as scaffolds that, interplayed with droplets of ammonium hexafluorosilicate, direct the site-specific silification. 2-stage Pipelined GHT Structure for Positioning Simple Label Images

Almost every products include label image which contain various informations about product. It is necessary to find location and rotated angle of label image to decide whether label image contain defection or not. By using Generalized Hough Transform(GHT) we can find location and rotated angle of label image robustly, But it require huge amount of memory space and long computation time to positioning image. In this paper, a 2-stage pipelined GHT structure which reduce memory requirement and computation time is proposed. Obtaining location and rotation angle of label image is partitioned to reduce memory space. We selectively vote edge points to reduce computation time. An experiment is conducted using many label image samples. The result show that proposed algorithm can reduce enormous memory space and computation time.
Edge-enhancing bi-histogram equalisation using guided image filter

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Histogram equalisation (HE) is a simple and effective contrast enhancement method. However, it has certain drawbacks, namely, brightness inconsistency, over-enhancement, and noise amplification. In addition, there is structure information loss while processing HE. To overcome those drawbacks simultaneously, we propose a novel edge enhancing bi-histogram equalisation method using guided image filter. In the proposed algorithm, a new adaptive plateau limit and a new edge-enhancing transformation function are proposed. The adaptive plateau limit makes the method robust to various histogram distributions, and the edge-enhancing transformation enhances edges while suppressing noise amplification in the flat region. The performance of the various HE algorithms are evaluated both quantitatively and qualitatively. The qualitative assessment shows that the proposed algorithm avoids over-enhancement and noise amplification, effectively. In addition, the quantitative metrics show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the existing HE algorithms in terms of local contrast, discrete entropy, and perceptual sharpening index.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The proposed algorithm enhances edges while overcome the drawbacks of histogram equalisation. </LI> <LI> Adaptive plateau limit determination is proposed which is robust to various histogram distributions. </LI> <LI> A new edge-enhancing transformation function is proposed with enhancement parameter λ . </LI> </UL> </P>

춘천호 내에서 2010년 5월에서 11월까지 어류 조사를 실시한 결과, 총 7과 20종 4,184개체가 채집되었다. 서식지에 따른 어류군집 분석 결과, 종수의 비율은 비슷한 패턴을 띠었으나, 개체수의 비율은 각 호수의 물리적 특성을 잘 반영하였다. 서식형태에 따라 춘천호는 전체 개체수에서 부유성(Pelagic) 어종의 비율이 대부분을 차지하였고, 저서성(Benthic) 어종의 비율은 5.0% 이하로 나타났다. 특히 저서성 어종은 모래에 서식하는 개체수의 비율이 높게 나타났다. 따라서 춘천호의 어류군집은 부유성과 모래에 서식하는 개체수의 비율이 높게 나타나는 전형적인 인공호 어류군집의 특징을 보였다. The ichthyfauna and community structure in Lake Chuncheon, Korea, were investigated from June 2010 to November 2010. The total number of fish caught from the period was 4,184 fish representing 20 species and 7 families. The result of analysis of fish community by habitat type, the ratio of species shows a similar pattern but the ratio of individuals were reflect the characteristic of each lake. According to habitat type, lake chuncheon consists of mostly pelagic fish in the percentage of total population. The percentage of benthic fish was less than 5%. Several benthic species were high in sand type of habitat. Fish community structure observed on Lake Chuncheon was same as.
