        In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

        골프장의 잔디 토양에서 살균제 Tolclofosmethyl의 분해

        Tolclofosmethyl (TCFM) is heavily and annually applied to the turf soils of most golf courses in Gyeongju to control the fungi known to cause the disease brown patch. The soil samples used for the experiment was collected three weeks after the annual application at the end of May in the year 2002. The preliminary results obtained from this study demonstrated that the repeated field annual applications of TCFM to the turf soils of a golf course located in Gyeongju city in the southern area of Korea showed the enhanced degradation of the parent compound TCFM, especially in the surface (0~15 cm) soil rather than the shallow subsurface (15~30 cm) and deep subsurface (30~45 cm) soils, compared to the corresponding surface (0~15 cm) and shallow and deep subsurface (15~30 cm and 30~45 cm) soils of the untreated plot. It appears that microorganisms in the soil may be involved in the enhanced degradation of TCFM.

        Double pyrolus, one of the relatively rare anomalies of the gastrointestinal tract, is a fistulous communication between the gastric antrum and the duodenal bulb. The first case of a double Pylorus was reported in 1969 by Smith, since then several cases have been reported. Recently, as the frequency of examining upper gastrointestinal series and endoscopy increases, it occurs more frequently and a few cases have been described in our country. According to the reports previously published, it resulted only from cysts, diverticla, atresia, band, membrane malformation of the pylorus, however, it might be also caused by penetration, complication of peptic ulcer. We report a case of double pylorus in a 67-year old man with prolonged administration of corticostetoids due to lumbago who has complained epigastric pain which was confirmed by endoscopy and biopsy.

        This paper attempts driving for minimized riffle torque of three phase Induction motor with optimized switching pattern of Pulsewidth-modulated Inverter by a microcomputer, this pattern is obtained by a new founded 1-m axis on the vector of instantaneous linkage flux locus and dispersive constant of riffle torque that is made from harmonic output currents of PWM Inverter. In this paper, Althogh the actual linkage flux locus is demanded high frequency switching for obeying a ideal limkage flux locus in the PWM Inverter, we find out smoothed variable-speed controlling by the optimized switching pattern on the software of microcomputer(Z-80).

      • 기초군사훈련이 체력과 신체구성에 미치는 영향

        The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of basic military training on the physical fitness and body composition of midshipmen. The test on the twenty subjects were done twice at the beginning and end of their 5-week's basic training with same variables and order in both tests in Naval Academy, Jin-Hae. The source variables of physical fitness in the test were muscle strength, muscle endurance, muscle power, agility, balance, flexibility and so on. The source variable of body composition were body weight, fat-free mass, percentage of body fat and so on. The sum of abdomen, triceps, and suprailium skinfold thickness were measured in order to assess alterations in fat-free mass and percentage of body fat. Paired sample t-test was used for data analysis and the significance level was set at the 0.05. The results of this study were as follow: 1.muscle endurance, balance, flexibility, endurance time(p〈0.01) and muscle power(p〈0.05) were increased after training programme. 2.muscle strength and agility showed tendency to increase. 3.Body weight and free-fat mass were increased but % body fat were decreased after training programme(p〈0.01). It might be concluded from the test that basic military training in Korean Naval Academy is effective for the increase physical fitness, cardiopulmonary function, fat-free mass and for the reduce of body fat percentage.

      • 과학수업모형의 비교 분석 및 내용과 활동 유형에 따른 적정 과학수업모형의 고안

        The purpose of this study is to develop appropriate science teaching models which can be applied effectively to relevant situations. Five science teaching models; cognitive conflict teaching model, generative teaching model, learning cycle teaching model, hypothesis verification teaching model and discovery teaching model, were identified from the existing models. The teaching models were modified and in primary and secondary students using a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. Major findings of this study were as follows: 1. For teaching science concepts, three teaching models were found more effective; cognitive conflict teaching model, generative teaching model and discovery teaching model. 2. For teaching inquiry skills, two teaching models were found more effective; learning cycle teaching model and hypothesis verification teaching model. 3. For teaching scientific attitudes, two teaching models were found more effective; learning cycle teaching model and discovery teaching model. Each teaching model requires specific learning environment. It is strongly suggested that teachers should select a suitable teaching model carefully after evaluating the learning environment including teacher and student variables, learning objectives and curricular materials.

      • 소아과 입원 환자에 대한 통계적 고찰

        For the purpose of assessing the disease patterns by the body organ system in patients of the pediatric age, we performed a statistical analysis of diseases of patients admitted to the department of pediatrics at Chungnam National University Hospital from January 1990 to December 1994. The results obtained were as follows : 1. Total numbers of in-patients were 8,007, of which 4,923 were male and 3,084 were female. The ratio male to female was 1.60 : 1. 2. Prevalence of the diseases classified by body organ system was in the following order : neonatal diseases (34.6%), respiratory diseases (17.4%), infectious diseases (11.5%), congenital anomalies (5.5%), digestive diseases (5.1%), genitourinary diseases (4.9%), neoplasm (4.7%), blood diseases (3.3%), nervous system diseases (2.8%), metabolic and endocrine diseases (2.4%), circulatory system diseases (2.3%), skin and subcutaneous diseases (1.3%), musculoskeletal and connective tissue diseases (1.2%), mental and behavior disorders (0.4%). 3. Major diseases in each body organ system were as follows : 1) infectious diseases : unspecified acute gastroenteritis (35.9%), viral meningitis (10.4%), Rotaviral enteritis (6.8%), sepsis (6.7%), measles (5.8%). 2) neoplasm ; ALL (34.1%), AML (15.8%), Wilms tumor (12.8%), NHL (8.2%), neuroblastoma (5.6%) 3) blood diseases : allergic purpura (24.2%), aplastic anemia (17.1%), ITP (16.4%), iron deficiency anemia (15.8%). 4) metabolic and endocrine diseases : short stature (22.0%), hypocalcemia (13.8%), metabolic acidosis (9.6%), IDDM (6.4%). 5) mental and behavior diseases : neurosis (47.7%), mental retardation (18.2%). 6) Nervous and sensory system diseases : epilepsy (43.2%), cerebral palsy (12.1%), otitis media (9.3%), encephalopathy (6.2%). 7) circulatory system diseases: congestive heart failure (29.2%), dilated cardiomyopathy (8.0%), rheumatic fever (8.0%), mitral insufficiency (6.8%), hypertension (6.4%). 8) respiratory diseases : pneumonia (40.1%), URI (9.6%), acute tonsillitis (9.4%), asthma (8.5%), acute bronchiolitis (8.3%), croup (7.1%), acute bronchitis (4.1%). 9) digestive system diseases : unspecified hepatitis (22.8%), acute gastritis (13.8%). CAH (12.6%), intussusception (7.8%), constipation (7.1%). 10) skin and subcutaneous diseases : cellulitis (23.1%), lymphadenitis (19.7%), urticaria (15.6%), atopic dermatitis (8.8%), furuncle (8.2%). 11) musculoskeletal and connective tissue diseases : Kawasaki disease (76.8%), JRA (8.5%), SLE (7.0%). 12) genitourinary system diseases : UTI (29.0%), minimal change nephrotic syndrome (27.3%), APSGN (7.6%), APN (4.9%). 13) congenital or chromosomal abnormalities : VSD (38.7%), ASD (10.5%), TOF (8.4%), PDA (5.2%), CHPS (4.5%), Down syndrome (4.1%). 14) neonatal diseases : jaundice (32.0%), prematurity (12.7%), RDS (5.7%), sepsis (4.5%), birth asphyxia (3.0%), SGA (3.0%). 15) Others : febrile convulsion (45.6%), failure to thrive (9.2%), FUO (8.9%), drug intoxication (8.2%). 4. Common diseases for admission in pediatrics were in the following order : jaundice, pneumonia, unspecified acute gastroenteritis, VSD, RDS, URI, acute tonsillitis, acute lymphadenitis, ALL, sepsis, asthma, acute bronchiolitis, UTI.

      • 平肺湯이 Oleic acid로 誘發된 家犬의 急性 肺水腫에 미치는 영향

        Certain oriental medication have been shown to be effective in decreasing pulmonary vascular resistance and increasing cardiac output in primary pulmonary artery pressure secondary to pulmonary edema. So oleic acid was administered in 14 dogs in order to induce acute lung injury. And we studied the hemodynamecs and blood gas changes of Pyengpaetang(平肺湯) (50mg, 100mg) with continuous postive pressure was ventilation iv pulmonary edema. The pulmonary edema group, arterial oxygenation was improved after 5 and 10 cm H_2O PEEP (positive end expiratory pressure), but cardiovascular system was depressed. Blood pressure and cardiac output were decreased, and CVP, MPAP, PCWP were increased. In Pyengpaetang(50mg) group, mena aortic pressure was decreased and PCWP(pulmonary capillary wedge pressure)was decreased remarkably, while there was a significant increase in cardiac output. And there was improvement in PaO_2 and PaCO_2 without hemodynamic changes after applying 5 cm H_2O PEEP, but arterial blood gases (PaO_2, PaCO_2) were improved, while cardiovascular effects were depressed after 10cm H_2O PEEP. In Pyengpaetang (100mg) treated group, there was no significant hemodynamic change. But mena pulmonary arterial pressure was signifiacntly increased, and cardiac output was decreased signifiacntly after applying the more degree of PEEP. And blood gases were not changed significantly after applying the more degree of PEEP. The above results suggest that the effects of Pyengpaetang (50mg) group is superior to those of Pyengpaetang(100mg) group on the effects of himodynamics and gas exchanges in acute lung injury in dogs. So we can conclude that lower degree PEEP 5cm H_2O is more beneficial in Pyengpaetang (50mg) treated group.
