        Validity of palatal superimposition of 3-dimensional digital models in cases treated with rapid maxillary expansion and maxillary protraction headgear

        Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the validity of the 3-dimensional (3D) superimposition method of digital models in patients who received treatment with rapid maxillary expansion (RME) and maxillary protraction headgear. Methods: The material consisted of pre- and post-treatment maxillary dental casts and lateral cephalograms of 30 patients, who underwent RME and maxillary protraction headgear treatment. Digital models were superimposed using the palate as a reference area. The movement of the maxillary central incisor and the first molar was measured on superimposed cephalograms and 3D digital models. To determine whether any difference existed between the 2 measuring techniques, intra-class correlation (ICC) and Bland-Altman plots were analyzed. Results: The measurements on the 3D digital models and cephalograms showed a very high correlation in the antero-posterior direction (ICC, 0.956 for central incisor and 0.941 for first molar) and a moderate correlation in the vertical direction (ICC, 0.748 for central incisor and 0.717 for first molar). Conclusions: The 3D model superimposition method using the palate as a reference area is as clinically reliable for assessing antero-posterior tooth movement as cephalometric superimposition, even in cases treated with orthopedic appliances, such as RME and maxillary protraction headgear.

      • Two-terminal mechanical perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells with transparent conductive adhesives

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Herein, we demonstrate a novel two-terminal perovskite/silicon mechanical tandem solar cell, fabricated by bonding a silicon cell upside down on a perovskite cell using a transparent conductive adhesive (TCA). The TCA consists of Ag-coated poly(methyl 2-methylpropenoate) microparticles embedded in a polymer adhesive. The Ag microparticles serve as an electrical current path, and the polymer adhesive mechanically bonds two sub-cells. The specific contact resistance and transmittance of the TCA layer were determined to be 5.46 × 10<SUP>−2</SUP> Ω∙cm<SUP>2</SUP> and >97.0%, respectively. Through an optical simulation, the current of the perovskite top cell was predicted to match the current of the p-type Si bottom cell with an Al back-surface field (BSF) layer when the thickness of MAPbI3 was 150 nm. The tandem cell fabricated under the optimal current matching conditions exhibited a current density of 15.43 mA cm-2, an open-circuit voltage of 1.59 V, and a fill factor of 79%, resulting in a steady-state efficiency of 19.4%. To the best of our knowledge, our result is the highest efficiency among two-terminal mechanical perovskite/silicon tandem cells. The unique structure of this tandem cell facilitates an excellent long-term stability without encapsulation in humid environment.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A novel idea to fabricate a two-terminal mechanical tandem solar cell by using a transparent conductive adhesives. </LI> <LI> Transparent conductive adhesives make the commercial textured silicon cells easily be tandemized with perovskite cells. </LI> <LI> Optical simulation for current matching of two sub-cells. </LI> <LI> We propose strategies to achieve a higher efficiency (>24%) through PERC silicon cells and band-gap-tuned perovskite cells. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        추체외로 증상을 나타낸 간경변 환자에서 담창구 부위의 자기공명 신호증강과 혈중 망간농도와의 상관성

        Backgroud/Aims : Increasing evidence suggests that manganese deposition in globus pallidus is responsible for MRI signal hyperintensity and for extrapyramidal symptoms in cirrhotics. However, the relationships between blood manganese, the severity of liver dysfunction, the pallidal signal intensity, and neurological signs have not been well established. Methods: Blood manganese concentrations were measured together with brain MRI and neurological evaluation in six controls, six patients with Parkinson's disease with normal liver function, and fourteen cirrhotic patients with hepatic encephalopathy including six cirrhotics with extrapyramidal symptoms. The neurological state was evaluated using the Columbia scale and the pallidal index (PI). The ratio of globus pallidus to frontal subcortical white-matter signal intensity was measured-multiplied by 100. Results : Pallidal signal hyperintensity was observed in 85.7% of cirrhotics, and the PI was higher in cirrhotics with extrapyramidal signs or high grade varices than those without them, but there was no increase in the Parkinson's disease patients. No correlations were demonstrated between the blood manganese level and PI as well as the Child-Pugh score. The blood manganese level was not significantly different between cirrhotics and other groups. However, there was an overt increase only in two cirrhotic patients with extrapyramidal signs. The Columbia scale did not reveal any correlations with the blood manganese level and the Child-Pugh score. Conclusions: Cirrhotics with extrapyramidal signs showed a significant increase in PI, but there was no increase in the patients with Parkinson's disease. The PI was not significantly correlated with the blood manganese level. These findings suggest that extrapyramidal signs in cirrhotics might be caused by a different mechanism than those in Parkinson's disease, which could possibly be related with manganese.         EDISON_CFD, an abbreviation of EDucation-research Integration through Simulation On the Net for Computational Fluid Dynamics, is a virtual organization designed to support the education research in fluid engineering on the e-Science environment. As the first step, our research group focuses on developing simulation software and contents based on numerical analyses. Through national research projects, many R&D results have been developed and accumulated in universities and research institutes. However, educational contents used for delivering advanced researches to inspire students still lack. Thus, development of software and contents for effective and advanced education & research is necessary. The present work aims to establish the platform of simulation softwares and contents for online education research in fluid engineering using the results of the state-of-art techniques. This will fortify not only the capability of students in fluid engineering but also the national strength in research.

        연부 조직 육종에서 18-FDG PET CT의 유용성

        목적: 최근 연부 조직 종양의 전이에 대한 진단 및 양성종양과 악성종양을 PET CT를 이용하여 감별하려는 시도가 많아지고 있다. 저자들은 본 연구를 통하여 연부 조직 종양에서 18-FDG PET CT의 유용성을 평가하고자 한다. 대상 및 방법: 악성연부 조직 종양이 의심되어 PET CT를 촬영한 64예를 대상으로 하였으며, 이 중 15예는 양성, 34예는 악성, 15예는 염증성병변이었다. 모든 환자들은 18-FDG CT촬영 후 수술적 치료가 이루어졌으며, 제거된 모든 조직은 수술 후 조직검사로 확진되었다. 반정량적 분석을 위하여 Maximal standard uptake value (SUVmax)를 구하였으며, SUVmax를 ROC 분석, Mann-Whitney test를 이용하여 통계처리 하였다. 결과: 연부조직종양에서 SUVmax 값을 이용하여 양성종양과 악성종양의 구분이 가능하였나, 종양의 등급간 SUVmax 값은 통계적 유의성이 없었다. 그리고 악성종양과 감염을 동반한 연부조직병변의 SUVmax값 역시 통계적 유의성이 없었다. 결론: PET CT는 연부 조직 육종의 국소 재발 및 전이를 진단하는데 도움을 줄 뿐만 아니라 양성종영과 악성종양을 감별하는데 유용한 핵의학영상 장치로 사료된다. 그러나 염증을 동반하는 경우나 염증성 병변이 의심될 경우 진단에 유의를 하여야 할 것으로 사료된다. Purpose: Recently, there have been many attempts to use PET-CT for the diagnosis of metastasis of soft tissue tumors and for differentiating benign tumors from malignant tumors. In this study, we wanted to evaluate the efficacy of 18-FDG PET CT in soft tissue tumors. Materials and Methods: Patients (n=64) with suspected malignant soft tissue tumor had 18-FDG PET CT scans This included 15 cases of benign soft tissue tumor, 34 cases of malignant soft tissue tumor and 15 cases of inflammatory lesions. All patients went through surgical treatment after PET-CT imaging was done, and all dissected tissues were biopsied. For semiquantitive analysis, SUVmax(Maximal standard uptake value) was measured, and SUVmax was determined using ROC analysis, the Kruskal-Wallis test and the Mann-Whitney test. Results: Using 18-FDG PET CT it was possible to differentiate benign from malignant tumor using SUVmax values. But. discrimination between different grades of tumor was not possible. Also discrimination between malignant tumors and inflammatory lesions was not possible. Conclusion: PET-CT can be considered as a useful nuclear imaging method that can detect local recurrence and distant metastasis of soft tissue sarcoma and can differentiate benign from malignant tumors. But PET-CT results must be interpreted carefully in diagnoses when there is inflammatory disease or a suspected lesion present.

        Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) imagery are being assessed for analyzing within field spatial variability for agricultural precision management, because UAV imagery may be acquired quickly during critical periods of rapid crop growth. This study refers to the derivation of barley and wheat growth prediction equation by using UAV derived vegetation index. UAV imagery was taken on the test plots six times from late February to late June during the barley and wheat growing season. The field spectral reflectance during growing period for the 5 variety (Keunal-bori, Huinchalssal-bori, Saechalssal-bori, Keumkang and Jopum) were measured using ground spectroradiometer and three growth parameters, including plant height, shoot dry weight and number of tiller were investigated for each ground survey. Among the 6 Vegetation Indices (VI), the RVI, NDVI, NGRDI and GLI between measured and image derived showed high relationship with the coefficient of determination respectively. Using the field investigation data, the vegetation indices regression curves were derived, and the growth parameters were tried to compare with the VIs value.

        Sensitive detection of dengue virus NS1 by highly stable affibody-functionalized gold nanoparticles

        <P>Infection with dengue virus (DENV) is a serious health issue that causes severe dengue fever and occasionally lethal complications, such as dengue hemorrhagic fever. Therefore, rapid and sensitive DENV detection is important to reduce morbidity and mortality. Here, we screened dengue NS1-specific affibodies and developed highly stable anti-NS1 affibody-functionalized AuNPs to improve the detection sensitivity of the NS1 antigen in ELISA. First, we screened NS1 antigen-specific affibody molecules (ZNS112, ZNS116, and ZNS146) from an affibody phage library. The affibodies were then expressed and purified from <I>Escherichia coli.</I> Among them, the ZNS112 affibody showed the highest equilibrium binding constant (<I>K</I>d) of 1 μM and was sufficiently stable at high temperatures. This affibody was functionalized on AuNPs measuring 20 nm in diameter, which were used as carriers to achieve amplification of the signal in ELISA. The developed anti-NS1 affibody-functionalized AuNPs ((ZNS112)2-AuNP) showed good properties, such as easy synthesis, a high number of affibody conjugations on the AuNPs, and excellent stability under harsh conditions with high salt concentrations and temperature. In addition, this nanoparticle-based enhanced ELISA resulted in a 14.2-fold signal amplification performance for dengue NS1 detection in comparison with the affibody-based ELISA. This novel and sensitive method using (ZNS112)2-AuNPs may have applications in the detection of DENV in infected patients at an early stage and for the detection of other pathogens in clinical diagnostics.</P>
