      • Studies on the Activation Mechanism of c-src Protein Tyrosine Kinase by Ginsenoside-Rg1

        We have studied an activation mechanism of pp60^(c-src) protein tyrosine kinase (PTK) by ginsenoside-Rg₁ (G-Rg₁) in NIH(pMcsrc/foc)B c-src overexpressor cells. It was previously reported that G-Rg₁ stimulated the activation of c-src kinase at 20 μM with a 18 hr-incubation, increasing the activity by 2-4-fold over that of untreated control, and this effect was blocked by treatments of inhibitors of either protein synthesis (cycloheximide) or RNA synthesis (actinomycin D) (Hong. H.Y. et al. Arch. Pharm. Res. 16, 114 (1993)). However, an amount of c-src protein itself in wild-type cells was not changed by G-Rg₁. When the cells mutated at one or two tyrosine residue(s) (Y416/527) that are important sites to regulate the kinase activity were treated with G-Rg₁, increases both in the activity of c-src kinase and in the expression of the protein were not observed. In addition, removal of extracellular calcium ion by EGTA or inhibition of PKC by H-7 canceled the G-Rg₁-induced activation of the kinase. Although the activation was little affected by G-Rg₁ with a calcium ionophore A23187, it was synergistically stimulated by treatment of G-Rg₁ and PMA, a PKC activator. Taken together, these results suggest that the activation of c-src kinase by G-Rg₁ is caused by an increase in the specific activity of the kinase, but not in amount of it, and is involved with both cellular calcium ion and PKC. Further the increase in the specific activity of c-src kinase may result from altered phosphorylation at tyr-416 and -527.

      • Traditional Markets Performance Analysis Considering the Impact of Large Discount Stores

        The support policy for the traditional market has been a uniform support method focused on facility investment. As a result, it did not show any remarkable achievement compared to huge financial support. Therefore, the need for differentiated support methods based on more rigorous performance evaluation for each traditional market has been raised. In this paper, we will modify the traditional DEA model using the two stage method for a more reasonable evaluation of the traditional markets. After calculating the bias-corrected estimator of efficiency scores using bootstrap from original ones in the first stage, the relationship between environment factors and the bias-corrected scores is assessed. Among the five environmental factors, the residential population and the presence of large discount stores or SSMs were statistically significant.

        한국 직업지위 지수

        사람의 일생에서 생활의 중심이라고 할 수 있는 직업과 관련된 연구는 매우 중요하며, 특히 직업의 위계에 따라 달리 부여되는 직업위세는 한 사회의 계층구조를 드러내는 강력한 지표이기 때문에 이에 대한 연구는 필수적이다. 본 연구의 목적은 ‘한국표준직업분류’에 따른 직업별 직업지위 점수를 산출하고, 지난 25년간 우리나라의 직업지위 변화를 비교분석해 보는 것이다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 이전까지의 연구들에서 조사된 주관적 직업위세와 이 연구에서 계산된 직업지위간의 상관관계는 0.87로, 수입과 교육으로 계산된 직업지위와 주관적으로 부여된 직업위세가 상당히 일치하였다. 둘째, 현재 직업지위 구조의 전반적인 양상은 직업대분류에 따라 역(逆)대각선의 형태로 나타났다. 즉, 대분류 1에서 9로 갈수록 평균적 직업지위가 대체로 하강한다. 셋째, 직업지위 결정에 있어서 1975년에는 직업지위에 미치는 영향력에 있어서 교육에 비하여 수입의 영향력이 높았던데 반해, 2000년에는 수입에 비해 교육의 영향력이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 1975년과 2000년의 직업지위를 비교해 보면, 직업지위 간 상관관계가 0.81로 대체로 안정적인 것으로 나타났으며, 직업지위 변화의 대체적인 경향은 상승세이다. 구체적으로 직업대분류별 직업지위의 변화를 살펴보면, ‘0 의회의원, 고위임직원 및 관리자’에 속하는 직업들의 직업지위가 크게 높아졌고, ‘4 서비스 종사자’ 및 ‘5 판매 종사자’의 직업지위는 대체로 상승하였다. 반면에 ‘2 기술공 및 준전문가’ 및 ‘3 사무종사자’는 전반적으로 직업지위가 하락한 것으로 나타났다. 한편 ‘1 전문가’나 ‘6 농업 및 어업 종사자’, ‘7 기능원 및 관련 기능 종사자’, ‘8장치, 기계조작 및 조립 종사자’, ‘9 단순노무 종사자’의 경우에는 일부 직업의 직업지위는 상승한 반면에, 일부 직업의 직업지위는 낮아져서 이중성을 보인다. 다섯째, 1975년에 비해 2000년에는 직업위세와 직업지위간의 상관관계가 낮아지며, 회귀식의 설명력 역시 낮아졌다. 이러한 결과는 직업지위의 결정에 교육과 수입만으로 설명되지 않 는 부분이 더 증가한다는 것을 의미하며, 따라서 직업지위에 영향을 미치는 다른 변인에 대한 연구가 추후 지속적으로 이루어질 필요가 있다. The major purpose of this research is to construct the Occupational Status Score Scheme for Korean occupations based on KSCO(Korean Standard Classification of Occupations).The second purpose is to analyze the trends in changes of status scores during the last 25 years. The equation is withdrawn with the median value of education from 2000 Census and the median value of income from 2002 KLIPS(Korea Labor Institute Panel Survey) as independent variables and with the 'subjective perception for occupational prestige' taken from 2000 Equity Survey as a measure of dependent variable. The results are compared with Hong's(1983) to analyze the patterns of change. The overall pattern of occupational status shows a reversed diagonal line, which represents that the status ranking is higher if the one-digit KSCO score is smaller. During the last 25 years, those occupations in categories number 0, 4, and 5 have experienced increase of occupational status score, while those in categories number 2 and 3 have experienced decrease. The other occupations belong to categories number 1, 6, 7, 8 and 9 have shown a sort of dualistic pattern, some of which are increased while the others are decreased.

      • 장거리 해저 광전송망 분산보상 설계 및 구현

        현재 국내.외 기간 통신망은 급격히 증가하는 고속 대용량 트래픽을 효율적으로 멀리 전송하기 위해 광증폭기를 이용한 파장분할다중화방식 (DWDM:Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) 광전송 시스템 통신망을 구축하고 있다. DWDM광전송 시스템에서 고속, 대용량 및 장거리 전송을 하기 위해서는 기존 3R 광 중계기시스템에서 크게 중요시 않았던 광 fiber의 비선형(non-linearity) 전송제약 요소를 고려하여 통신망을 설계하여야 한다. 광통신망에서 장거리 전송 시 신호펄스 파형의 왜곡을 최소화하기 위해 영분산(zero-dispersion)을 구현하여야 하지만, 영분산으로 인하여 파이버의 비선형 현상이 나타나 신호 스펙트럼 왜곡 현상이 발생하는 문제가 있다. 즉 영 분산과 파이버의 비선형 사이에 서로 상충관계를 해결하여야 고속 대용량 트랙픽을 장거리 전송할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 DWDM 해저 광 통신망에서 고속 대용량 트래픽을 장거리 전송하기 위한 기술을 알아보고, 영분산과 파이버의 비선형 사이에 상충문제를 해결 위한 분산관리 기법을 소개하고, 실제한국-홍콩간 해저 광통신 구간에서 분산 맵 (dispersion map)을 설계 구현하였다. Currently, Most of the Backhual and Submarine s networks are being installed using DWDM and EDFA to deal with dramatically increasing internet traffic. In a conventional type optical system, the so-called 3R repeater, fiber non- linearity was not significant factor but it is one of the most important consideration when designing new DWDM network based on the EDFAs. To minimize the signal pulse distortion in long-haul optical network, Zero-dispersion fiber is indispensable but causes the fiber non-linearity. Therefore this conflicting problems should be managed to transmit a high-speed capacity traffic. In this paper, key technologies in DWDM submarine optic network were found out for a high capacity traffic and introduced the dispersion management way for solving the conflicting problems between Zero-dispersion and non-linearity. Lastly designed a dispersion map in section between Korea and Hong-kong.

      • Free Communications : P2 ; Cannabinoid Receptors : Its Impact in Epidermal Differentiation and Possible Role in Treatment of Psoriasis

        Purpose: There are researches indicating that in human skin, the cannabinoid receptors exist, which take a part of endocannabinoid system. Nonetheless, the possible association of cannabinoid receptors with the pathogenesis of psoriasis has not yet been fully elucidated. Through this research, we tried to document the association between cannabinoid system, epidermal differentiation and psoriasis. Methods: Using human keratinocyte (KC), the expression of cannabinoid receptor-1 (CB1R) and -2 (CB2R) was analyzed according to the degree of differentiation. Also we examined for changes in differentiation marker of KC after application of CBR agonist. In addition, murine model applied with imiquimod to induce psoriasis symptoms was used to evaluate the effect of topical CBR agonist on inflammation and skin barrier function. Results: Compared to normal human skin, CBR expression was reduced in epidermis of psoriasis skin. Western blotting revealed the expression of both CB1R and CB2R in undifferentiated KC. The expression level of CB1R increased as the differentiation progressed in KC as with involucrin, K1 and K10. On the other hand, there was no change of CB2R in the process of differentiation. Furthermore, CB1R agonist partly increased expression of proteins associated with epidermal differentiation. Through this we could speculate that the CB system may be associated with proteins related to epidermal differentiation. Moreover, inflammation and barrier function in murine models with psoriasis symptoms were improved after 3 days-application of topical CB1R agonist. Conclusion: Cannabinoid receptors in human skin might be related to the differentiation of KC, and since its activation could improve skin barrier condition in murine psoriasis model, it can be expected to be a new therapeutic target for treatment of psoriasis.

        Objective: Two famous medical doctors, Yoo Itae(以泰, 爾泰) and Riu Euitae(義泰), have been well known in academic world and public in Sancheong-gun. Yoo Itae is the progenitor of Majinhak which is the therapy for measles, he wrote a “Majinpyun” as the first book of therapy for measles in Chosun. Riu Euitae, meanwhile, is a fictional medical doctor and a teacher of Heo Jun who became real without confirmation of historical truths by Roh Jeongwoo who heard about a name, Yoo Itae. Roh`s assertion was quoted in the report of literatures, papers, novel, and telecast without verification. His assertion is exposed in novel and media and it has seriously distorted the history. The purpose of this study is to rectify the historical distortion. Methods: Various references study was performed. Confirmed a family tree, birth and death year, birthplace, sepulture, words on a tombstone, writing, collections of works anthology and the existence of keepsake. Investigated records of royal family, Sancheong-gun papers, Sancheong Hyanggyo papers, Dongyuhagan, Chosun Hanryuseungram and the record of Sawoo Munjip(anthology). Analyzed Roh Jungwoo`s conversation that tells Riu Euitae is a teacher of Heo Jun and contents of an encyclopedia. Listened to testimony of descendants and assertions of historian in rural area. Verified voice recording on books taken from at birthplace and the space of activity. Results: Yoo Itae is well shown in various records and medical writing books, whereas Riu Euitae does not. Riu Euitae is not a real person in the history. Roh Jeongwoo who asserts Riu Euitae is a teacher of Heo Jun admits his mistake. But, the encyclopedia record describing Riu Euitae is a teacher of Heo Jun, government official at Sancheong district office, historians in rural area, historians in rural area who made a family shrine, gravestone, a statue, memorial, historic site of Riu Euitae on Jinju Rui could not suggest any evidences for the existence of Riu Euitae and for record Riu Euitae is a teacher of Heo Jun. Conclusion : Riu Euitae is neither a real person in the history nor a teacher of Heo Jun. Riu Euitae came from pronunciation confusion between ‘I’ and ‘Eui’ in Kyungsang province. Riu Euitae is Yoo Itae on Geochang Yoo who was a medical doctor of King, Sukjeong and wrote medical books including <Majinpyun>, <Silheomdanbang>, <Inseomungyunrog>.

        Machine Learning Algorithms for the Prediction of Locomotor Activity by an Infrared Motion Detector on the Sleep-wake States in Mice

        Objective: Even though studies using machine learning on sleep-wake states have been performed, studies in various conditions are still necessary. This study aimed to examine the performance of the prediction model of locomotor activities on sleep-wake states using machine learning algorithms. Methods: The processed data using moving average of locomotor activities were used as predicting features. The sleep-wake states were used as true labels. The prediction models were established by machine learning classifiers such as support vector machine with radial basis function (SVM-RBF), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), naïve Bayes, and random forest (RF). The prediction model was evaluated by a six-fold cross validation. Results: The SVM-RBF and RF showed acceptable performance within a window of moving average from 480 to 1,200 seconds. The highest accuracy (0.869) was shown by the RF at the interval of 480 seconds. Meanwhile, the highest area under the curve (0.939) was shown by LDA at the interval of 870 seconds. Conclusion: This study suggested that the prediction model on sleep-wake state using machine learning could show an improvement of the model performance when using moving average with raw data. The prediction model using locomotor activity can be useful in research on sleep-wake state.
