<P>Naringenin, a well-known naturally occurring flavonone, demonstrates cytotoxicity in a variety of human cancer cell lines; its inhibitory effects on tumor growth have spurred interest in its therapeutic application. In this study, naringenin was derivatized to produce more effective small-molecule inhibitors of cancer cell proliferation, and the anticancer effects of its derivative, 5-hydroxy-7,4′-diacetyloxyflavanone-<I>N</I>-phenyl hydrazone (N101-43), in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines NCI-H460, A549, and NCI-H1299 were investigated. Naringenin itself possesses no cytotoxicity against lung cancer cells. In contrast, N101-43 inhibits proliferation of both NCI-H460 and A549 cell lines; this capacity is lost in p53-lacking NCI-H1299 cells. N101-43 induces apoptosis via sub-G<SUB>1</SUB> cell-cycle arrest in NCI-H460 and via G<SUB>0</SUB>/G<SUB>1</SUB> arrest in A549 cells. Expression of apoptosis and cell-cycle regulatory factors is altered: Cyclins A and D1 and phospho-pRb are down-regulated, but expression of CDK inhibitors such as p21, p27, and p53 is enhanced by N101-43 treatment; N101-43 also increases expression levels of the extrinsic death receptor Fas and its binding partner FasL. Furthermore, N101-43 treatment diminishes levels of cell survival factors such as PI3K and p-Akt dose-dependently, and N101-43 additionally induces cleavage of the pro-apoptotic factors caspase-3, caspase-8, and poly ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP). Cumulatively, these investigations show that the naringenin derivative N101-43 induces apoptosis via up-regulation of Fas/FasL expression, activation of caspase cascades, and inhibition of PI3K/Akt survival signaling pathways in NCI-H460 and A549 cells. In conclusion, these data indicate that N101-43 may have potential as an anticancer agent in NSCLC.</P>

This study aims to understand the internal flow characteristics of a droplet under a periodic forced vibration. In order to predict the resonance frequency of a droplet, various approaches were made. High-speed camera and macro lens were used to capture the internal flow characteristics of a droplet on the vibrating hydrophobic surface. The result shows that the droplet under vertical periodic forced vibration has a variety of shape depending on their modes, in particular modes 2, 4, 6, and 8. In addition, the induced internal vortex flow inside the droplet was also observed in each mode. Typically, the induced flow moves upward along the symmetry axis and downward along the surface of the drop from the apex towards the contact line in modes 2 and 4 and breaks into smaller vortex. On the other hand, the large-scale vortex always remains steady in modes 6 and 8. The flow speed in mode 4 is always faster than that in 2, whereas those of modes 6 and 8 are almost similar each other.

압축공기 포는 공기포혼합기를 사용하여 약제와 물 그리고 압축공기를 혼합하여 방출하는 방식으로, 물의 확보가 곤란한 장소라도 소화 효율을 높이는 시스템으로서 주목되고 있으며, 현재 해외 선진국에서는 이미 개발되어 상용화 되어있다. 본 연구에서는 국제적 기준에 따른 압축공기포소화설비의 성능평가시험을 위해 미국, 캐나다 등에서 채택한 UL-162 시험방법을 적용하여 시험을 수행하였으며, 그 결과 기존의 포소화시스템과 압축공기포소화시스템의 성능비교시험을 통해 압축공기포가 기존의 포소화방식 보다 소화성능이 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

Valacyclovir is a prodrug of acyclovir, transformed to acyclovir by first-pass metabolism in the liver. In recent years, valacyclovir has largely replaced acyclovir in the treatment of herpesvirus infections, because it is more effective by oral administration. Valacyclovir is used increasingly to treat herpes zoster, although neuropsychiatric symptoms [valacyclovir neurotoxicity (VAN) or acyclovir neurotoxicity], may accompany use of this drug. This paper reports two cases of neurotoxicity of valacyclovir in a patients with end-stage renal disease who was undergoing maintanence hemodialysis. A 68-year-old male, receiving hemodialysis three times a week, prescribed valacyclovir 1000 mg/day on every dialysis day, for herpes zoster of left thigh . After he took his second dose orally, he developed lethargy and disorientation. His mental status progressed to semicoma. Daily conventional hemodialysis was started. After three sessions of hemodialysis, the patient became alert A 64-year-old male who was being treated with hemodialysis was admitted for dysarthria and euphoria. He took 1,000 mg of valacyclovir twice for hepes zoster of fourth level of thoracic nerve. After two days of treatment with oral valacyclovir, he had several neurologic symptoms as mentioned above. We performed daily hemodialysis and after three session of hemodialysis, he fully recovered. In conclusion, valacyclovir can induce life-threatening neurotoxicity, especially in ESRD patients with appropriate dose reduction. But which can be effectively managed by hemodialysis.

Background Although Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS) has been widely used for intracranial meningiomas as an alternative or adjuvant treatment, guidelines have not been established for the selection of patients with petroclival meningioma (PCM) for GKRS. In this study, we reported the factors related to tumor progression and postoperative complications in PCM patients treated by GKRS, with a review of the literatures. Methods Between 2004 and 2019, 64 patients (52 patients for alternative and 12 patients for adjuvant treatment) with PCM underwent GKRS in our institution. The clinical and radiological factors were retrospectively analyzed. The mean radiologic follow-up duration was 58.4 months (range, 6-164 months). The mean tumor volume and diameter before GKRS were 13.4 cm<sup>3</sup> and 2.9 cm, respectively. The median marginal dose was 12 Gy (range, 10-14 Gy) with a 50% median isodose line. Fractionation was used in 19 cases (29%, two fractionations in 5 cases & three fractionations in 14 cases). Results Progression was noted in 7 cases (10.9%) and the progression-free survival rates were 91.1% at 5 years and 69.6% at 10 years. Although large in volume, moderate to severe peritumoral edema and male gender were somewhat related to progression, they did not reach statistical significance. Ten patients (15.6%) developed complications after GKRS. The most common complication was cranial nerve deficit (n=8), followed by hemiparesis, cognitive dysfunction, and hydrocephalus. Large size (maximal diameter ≥5 cm) [hazard ratio (HR) 0.091, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.014-0.608; p=0.013] and multiplicity (HR 0.102, 95% CI 0.018-0.573; p=0.009) were independent factors for developing complications after GKRS. Conclusion GKRS can be considered an effective and safe treatment for large-volume PCM. However, for patients with large size or multiple masses, the treatment method should be determined with caution because the probability of complications after GKRS may increase.

Background: Renal cell carcinoma(RCC) is the most common kidney cancer. Advanced RCC is highly aggressive, with 5-year survival rates of approximately 10%. With the advent of targeted agents for the treatment of RCC, overall survival has improved. All of these agents inhibit tumour angiogenesis, which is essential for tumour growth and metastasis. Pazopanib inhibits the tyrosine kinase activities of vascular endothelial growth factor receptors, platelet-derived growth factor, and stem cell factor receptor. It is currently registered for the treatment of advanced or metastatic RCC. The adverse effects of the pazopanib include hypertension, arterial thromboembolic events, renal dysfunction, hemorrhage, and gastrointestinal trouble. Congestive heart failure is a rare but serious adverse event associated with VEGF-targeted agents. Result: A 78 years old male patient visited our hospital because of chest discomport and dyspnea. He had a history of hypertension, CKD, and RCC with liver metastasis. He took the antihypertensive agent. In addition, from August 2013, he took 800mg once a day dose of pazopanib. The laboratory test showed elevated levels of the brain natriuretic peptide (1805pg/ml). The echocardiography showed the diffuse left ventricular thining and akinesia. And ejection fraction(EF) was 25% in the echocardiogram. April 2013, preoperative echocardiography showed the concentric LVH and normal global systolic function(EF=67.7%). He was diagnosed as dilated cardiomyopathy and he discharged without any further treatment. Conclusions: As these drugs are increasing used in the routine treatment of the advanced or metastatic RCC and in the setting of clinical trials in combination with other agents, physicians and investigators should be aware of this adverse effect and should monitor patients receiving VEGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitor, such as pazopanib, closely to offer early management and to optimize the balance between clinical benefi t and life threatening adverse events.

Apophyseopathy in human growing-up period is divided in three parts, early stage, advancing stage, and ending stage which are analyzed by X-ray test. The tuber of kantenabtrennung, schmorl and rear oxhorn dissociation are one of the these barrier process. We assume that the fracture of apophysis by overusing is the main cause of these barriers.

Due to the lack of the study of the flow inside a droplet placed in vibrating plate, most of the study has been made on a hot thermal plate. This study aims to understand the internal flow characteristics of a droplet under a periodic forced vibration. In order to predict the resonance frequency of a droplet, various approaches were made. High-speed camera and macro lens were used to capture the internal flow characteristics of a droplet on the vibrating hydrophobic surface. The result shows that the internal flow has its mode and the induced vortex was generated in mode 4, 6, and 8. However, the homogeneous size of the vortex was generated in mode 2, whereas the non-uniform vortex occurred in mode 6 and 8. As mode increased, the number of robes increased and the capillary vortex inside the robe was also stimulated.
